1-0 out of 5 stars What a RIPOFF
I was beyond disappointed with this "book".First off I expected to receive a book and not a pamphlet.Second the information was useless if you have ever read any other PMC book.I will definitely make a note of the author and never buy sight unseen from her again. There are so many good books out there to choose from.Don't waste your time or money on this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced duplicate of other publications
This is not a book, more of a pamphlet. The information & projects provided are all from other publications by the author, and offers nothing for even the most basic of beginners. Avoid this "book" and save your money for some PMC+.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good investment for those interested in PMC- Rocky Mt. Bead Society book review
Because I know nothing of Precious Metal Clay, I learned a lot in looking over this book. The section about TIPS was especially good. It showed how to use a 'hot pot', quick tip on drying PMC, how to keep it moist, how to burnish the PMC and why that is necessary, how to make PMC slip, and what a PMC 'sheet' is and how to work with it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Buy This Book!
Although I've never taken any of Kipper's workshops, I know many people who have. They all tell me that he's a patina guru.I've been doing patinas for only a few years, and am by no means an expert, but I use this book like a bible.Kipper's language is clear and concise, and his recipies are understandable. You may not get the result you want on the first try, but you do have something to work from. There's some great color plates that show you examples of the recipies.I find this book invaluable and I consult it almost every day. If you are delving into the world of bronze patina you definately need this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the best beading book I've found!
I'm absolutely crazy about this book! The instructions are the easiest to understand that I've ever seen. For instance, I have a couple of other beading books that neglect to inform one how to start or finish off threads, and how to hide the ends in the beadwork. The technique this author uses is sturdy and invisible. The charts are fabulous; very imaginative and the colors are beautiful.I couldn't be happier with this book.I especially like the fact that each chart states how many beads will end up being in the finished product, how many rows and columns there are in each piece, and clear instructions on which stitch to use.The spiral-bound spine is a lifesaver, as the book will lie flat on your work surface, unlike books with regular spines that need a weight to hold open.I first encountered this book at my local library, and wish I would have found it first rather than the other books I have been using.I wouldn't have made as many time-consuming mistakes as I have.We beaders know that it's the time put into the project, rather than the materials, that ends up costing you money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Patternsare childish, hard to make out.
Most patterns in this book are childish, hard to make out and not worth the time. This one went back to Amazon. I would hardly call it a "bible"

3-0 out of 5 stars i took a gamble
by buying this book sight unseen.sometimes the gamble pays off, and i find a new author, but this time i lost and have returned the book to amazon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jeff Wilson "Bridges the Gap"
As a 28 year veteran of professional railroading, with 18 years in the bridge department, Jeff has indeed managed to bridge the gap between prototype and modeler. He explains in great detail the "why" that goes into selecting the proper type or size bridge for a particular location. Many beautiful bridge models are spoiled because they would just not be practical in the real world. Jeff did an excellent job of researching the subject material and has made it easy for a modeler to build a very nice, prototypical bridge for a given geographic location.

5-0 out of 5 stars An in-depth guide that combines an appreciation of railroad history with solid how-to tactics for bringing said history to life
The Model Railroader's Guide To Bridges, Trestles & Tunnels is an in-depth hobbyist's guide to adding minutely detailed, realistic bridges and tunnel portals to a model railroad layout. Chapters include overviews of the construction and purpose of bridges, trestles, and tunnels; historic and contemporary prototype photos, in black-and-white and color; strategies for modeling, painting, and weathering scale replicas; listings of bridge, trestle, and tunnel kits in HO, N, and O scale, as well as excellent suggestions for modifying kits and scratchbuilding; and so much more. An in-depth guide that combines an appreciation of railroad history with solid how-to tactics for bringing said history to life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book for home dec-no jewelry at all
If you are looking for a book with some great home decor items, this is it.I was looking for a book on jewelry (it said Jewelry Crafts after the title) so I'm disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars home decorating items made with wire and glass beads!!!
I've done my research before purchasing this book and I LOVE it. This book is for home decorating purpose. Projects includes napkin ring, window covering, wall hangers, lantern and more. There are projects for every skill levels. This book is great because all projects have actual pictures and written step by step instructions along with a list of material you need for each project. The authur also provides a list of tools and how you can use them to achieve a specific wire bending tasks. Some of the tools you already have in your kitchen or in your garage; all I purchased is a pair of round nose piler($3), flat nose piler($3), beads from local craft outlet and wire cutter($7),steel wire($1.99/spool that will last you many project) from home depot to start my first project. This is a very clearly written book according to me that I have no previous experience in wire crafting. I did came across some parts of instructions that aren't clear to me but I manage to figure them out.Keep in mind that all the instructional books are written in someone else's perspective even a well written book like this require some effort from the readers to interpret the message that the authur tries to communicate. One minor problem is that the authur uses milimeter to indicate the diameter or the thickness of the wire instead of gauges which is most commonly used. You can find a converting table from your local craft store it will be handy when ordering the wire online or in hardware store.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
I just finished probably my 10th or so knife using the techniques learned in this book. This book is currently available in a German edition from Dick Fine Tools but the English version is still out of print. It is very nearly worth whatever you have to pay if you are at all interested in Scandinavian knifemaking, an excellent book.As an addition, if you can find Swedish Carving Techniques by Wille Sundqvist he goes into knife usage in depth. These two books will have you making spoons, small bowls and even buttons for a favorite jacket, all with knives and a few carving tools.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Way of Knowing and Doing
Bergman does a fine job of encouraging the reader to make, use, and appreciate Scandinavian-style knives. The reader is also encouraged to confront and appreciate a set of knife traditions that, until recently, have been neither well known nor sufficiently appreciated outside their native Scandinavia. In short, Bergman's book is both a useful "how-to manual" and a fascinating cultural study.
5-0 out of 5 stars taking a blade and turning it into a scandinavian knife
The nitty gritty: does it allow you to craft a knife? I'm just completing my 2nd knife based entirely on this book, so for me--yes.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Special Tour
Many museums and high-class travel agencies have specialty tours that emphasize particular themes and often cost thousands of dollars. Now, for less than $100, one can learn about silver and fashion while vicariously touring the entire globe. The personal vignettes, the gorgeous imagery and the addition of clear and attractive maps make the reader feel as if he or she is traveling with the Nadlers and seeing the world of fashion and silver through their eyes.Since their taste is impeccable and their international perspective well-informed, penetrating and full of humor and adventure, this is a tour and a tour-de-force not to be missed!

5-0 out of 5 stars a great book on jewelry and so much more
I live in Ottawa, Canada and last Septmber attended an illustrated lecture by Daniel Nadler on Silver:from Fetish to Fashion. It was so humorous, educational and interesting that I immediately bought his book.First, I approached if from the point of view of a fashion and jewelry-obsessed woman stuck in a mid-size Canadian city without access to great stores that can be found in some North American cities.I was amazed at how much I learnt about, not only fashion but geography, history, trade, ethnography, and most importantly the art of jewelry design.I highly recommend this book to fashionistas, artists, art students, jewelry designers and to anyone who would like to lose themselves in the world of wearable art.The Nadlers tell tales about their incredible collection with great wit and panache.Every chapter is full of well researched information. The photography of objects and women by both Nadlers is superlative.I have traveled through some of the regions but it was like seeing these places again through fresh eyes.
5-0 out of 5 stars A global journey to celebrate silver
What a well organized and beautifully illustrated book! The Nadlers have transformed their passion for silver into an arresting journey around the globe.Every chapter provides an interesting orientation.Beautiful photographs and appropriate maps guide the reader through the historical and cultural context of a myriad of fine examples of precious silver collected in each country. With over 400 pages of high quality and beautifully bound text, a wealth of information and visual beauty await the discerning reader and connoisseur. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Shotgunning: The Art and Science
This book is a great book containing lots of useful information. I would recommend this book to beginners and advanced shooters alike.

3-0 out of 5 stars An adequate primer, but...
Shotgunning: The Art and Science provides a good basic introduction to almost every aspect of shotguns and should prove especially beneficial for new shooters. That said, it comes up short in any substantial discussion of wingshooting technique--which was my primary need. And while the very detailed empirical discussions of ballistics and patterning are thorough and illuminating, much has changed in shotgunning technology since this book was published 30 years ago, and, of course, none of those changes are reflected. For instance, the move away from lead shot for virtually all waterfowling applications has had a profound effect on choke recommendations. Also, the birth and development of sporting clays has rejuvenated many shooters and brought countless other new shooters into shotgunning. Sporting clays is perhaps the most popular clays game being shot today, but it arrived after this book did.
5-0 out of 5 stars A classic introduction to the sport.
I thought Brsiter's work was very well written and showed how dedicated he was to the sport. For me, a person relatively new to shotgun sports and wing-shooting, this book is an excellent introduction to shotgunning fundamentals and why shooting a shotgun is so different than any other type of firearm.

4-0 out of 5 stars Its a Dover reprint Duh!
It has become somewhat of a mild shock to me how many people do not understand that Dover is in the reprinting biz. This is a old school style middle/high school sheetmetal or general metal text book type. It covers a basic overview of the tools and the steps to use them. Other than updating some of the tools for soldering ect. It is pretty much the same as you will get out of the latest glossy high tech photo book on the same subject. The only difference being that the projects are retro which is hot now so that style is in. The projects are the same type we had in school in the 60's and 70'sMost of the hand tools, hammers, stakes and punches and pitch bowls haven't changed. I myself have and still use stakes and hammers that are seventy and eighty years old. I own it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Metalwork for Craftsmen
I found this book full of helpful information, and easy to read. A must have for anyone interested in metal craft.

2-0 out of 5 stars No wonder the book is so inexpensive
Copyright 1972...should be 1772.The illustrations are Old World sketches at best.If you want a VERY brief overview of tools and processes, this book should do.Although for being a basic and introductory book, it assumes you know some terms which can be frustrating.Probably a good guide if you're taking a course and want to refer to very basic tools and processes.Presentation is definitely "old school". ... 1-0 out of 5 stars This book was a dissappointment for me.....
Unless already know the name of the maker, it's fairly difficult to look up a unknown, cryptic mark. I have to thumb through the whole book to find the mark I'm searching for. There is no cross reference section.5-0 out of 5 stars An excelllent reference for the collector or dealer...
This book is a must-have if you collect American silver. It's an exhaustive reference of marks and makers, with over 400 pages of information. Silver makers are listed both alphabetically as well as cross-referenced by monograms or marks. More than 10,000 silversmiths, from 1650 to the present are included, and the book makes it easy to identify a piece or its maker. There are shape guides (for things like spoons and coffeepots), as well as hand-drawn images of marks (no photos in this book). All in all this book is an extremely useful reference for the collector or dealing of American silver. Don't hesitate, buy it!

4-0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for the collector of American Antique silver

5-0 out of 5 stars The Torah, Bible, and Quoran all in one for metal heads!
The best book there is regarding patination of metals.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book is truely the "bible" on patinas. There must be at least 1000 recipes for coloring metal.

3-0 out of 5 stars Encyclopeadic?Yes.Very useful?Kinda.
This book is encyclopeadic--there are at least a thousand recipes. But only about 1 in 4 has a color picture to show the results.I'm sorry, but color pictures are a must. The word descriptions simply don't suffice, especially when one is looking for a very partcular look.
