5-0 out of 5 stars A rare masterpiece.
This magnificent book is beyond breathtaking and deserves far more than a5-star rating. I saw many of these priceless silver saddles, spurs andother Edward Bohlin masterpieces in parades years ago. They're even moredazzling today. Gorgeous color photographs taken by Susan Einsteincertainly do them justice. I'd have paid the full $60.00 for this onewithout a whimper. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fiber work for wire jewelry
My main interest is bead stringing and wire wrapping so I skimmed over this book for about a year. After a closer look, I bought it and wondered why I didn't do it sooner. It melds wire working technique with fiber arts.Basic wire working tools and skills are necessary for Fiber-Wire Beads Jewelry. The book doesn't teach it which is the only drawback but there are other books that do this. All Wired Up by Mark Lareau would be a perfect companion for this book.
3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but falls short
This book is interesting - but it seems to be lacking in it's ability to properly show the reader how to end one of these "wiber" beads. The descriptions on how to finish the beads leave me with the impression that these beads will not hold up through repeated wearings.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spectacular book
Man, whoever wrote the description for this book musn't even have cracked it open! Sure, there are instructions for 30 some odd (and I might add, wonderful) beads but that's the least of this book. The bulk of it is jam-packed with amazing wire and fiber jewelry that has nothing to do with fiber wire beads. You've got to take a look at this amazing stuff....for example, fabulous neckpieces using a simple method of winding wibers around ball chain and an entire chapter on crocheting with fiber and wire! Just gorgeous. This book has been seriously under rated, it's a wellspring of innovative and elegantly simple fiber and wire jewelry. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice Pictures
This book tells very little about making armor. It is a collection of shots of a harness as it is made. The pictures are of little use without some explanations. It is like seeing pictures of someone driving a car, looks good but really doesn't tell you how to do it. There are much better books out there, such as Price's Techniques of Medieval Armour Reproduction; buy that instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars The art of making armour a craftman's guide to creating authentic armour reproductions
Great book, The photo's were very informative. The writing was simple to understand. If you want to make better armour then this is the book for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars disapointment, disapointment, disapointment......

5-0 out of 5 stars An winner for Carles Codina
Right up front I have to say that I am a fan of Mr Codina books I have three of them This one is a delight, it has the abundance of pictures of the work being described. It covers the subject Jewelry vessels & Ornaments like a blanket. The side journeys to specific techniques and processes. Will give the novice and expert plenty to ponder, think and design their projects for some time to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars The man & his Craft
I am sorry, but I never read the book, but I purchased it as a gift for friend. However I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Simmons on a tour of Charleston, South Carolina in 1998. He is an incredibly lively person who is full of humor and has countless stories to share. I remember one in particular, when he spoke of his years as a boy when there were only horse & carriages for transportation. Then he said the age of the automobile came to be and folks would stop whatever they were doing to watch in awe as the automobile went by. Then he chuckled quietly as he descibed the same behavior today when a horse & carriage goes clamoring through town. There are no words to describe the artistic craftmanship of Mr. Simmons iron works, you simply have to see for yourself. As for Mr. Simmons, he is a proud yet humble man about his craft, his works and his life, you should meet him for yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars A stirring and fascinating account
a stirring and engaging account of a man whose life spans almost the whole century, who grew up in a fascinating environment, regularly crossing between worlds while he served an apprenticeship, and went on to crossbetween other worlds, a folk artist who is regarded by the art world as apeerless sculptor, whose work is exhibited in museums. THis is a greatstudy by a preeminent folklorist that will interest anyone. ... Read more
