2-0 out of 5 stars Deceptive Title
The book has some very good advice and tips regarding dollhouses. However, contrary to its title, this advice pertains almost exclusively to building a new dollhouse, not with remodeling or expanding an existing one.If it had been called "Choosing and Building a Dollhouse," I would have given it a higher rating, but I was extremely disappointed to find that it could shed no light on my own issues of remodeling an existing dollhouse. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars great book, well researched.
The book tells the history of 3 American and 4 British ships during the American Revolution. The book is well researched. It also show plenty of pictures of the seven models of these ships Harold Hahn built. The models of the first six are described briefly. The last half of the book is about the 74-gun HMS Alfred and the description of the construction of the model. Model builders would enjoy reading the book and looking at the nice pictures (all in black-and-white). It is not a step-by-step model building book for beginners. It is probably more suited for scratch model builders looking for ideas and inspiration. This is a very wonderful book, and I wish there were more books like these.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great book for ship lovers and model builders
The author describes 7 British and American ships representing a selection of different kind of vessels used by both nations in the American revolution, from a small flush-decked sloop to a 74 gun ship of the line. In the first 7 chapters the book deals with the history of each vessel and gives a description of a plank on frame model (built by the author). Each chapter includes photographs showing the respective model throughout various stages of their construction as well as a reprint (in small scale) of the author's plans of the vessel (the plans were redrawn from original plans in the National Maritime Museum Greenwich for use by model builders). The remaining 10 chapters include a full set of the plans of the 74 gun HMS Alfred and describe step by step the building of the model giving lots of hints useful also for most experienced model builders. In my opinion one of the best books one the subject one can buy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another excelent book by Alex Clark
Fans of 1/72 scale armor rejoice! This book contains walkthroughs of builds of a Tiger II, Elefant, Tiger, Sturmtiger, and Jagdtiger. This is certainly not a beginner's book - even the easiest of the builds ends up being mostly resin after-market parts, and the later models have a large percentage of scratch-built components. The Jagdtiger includes a full interior that defies description. The pictures are better than the ones from the previous Panzer IV book - more large pictures, and the small ones are taken closer to the details, so you can still make them out. However, I would like to see more steps devoted to painting techniques, like masking and how he deals with tracks and other attached parts.
5-0 out of 5 stars Building tiny Tigers? This book is for you.
This book is the latest title in the popular Osprey Modelling series (it's number 28). Aimed primarily at intermediate and advanced armor modelers, the book explores a number of Tiger tank variants in 1/72 scale (Braille scale, to some). Like all the books in the Osprey series, the quality of the photographs and writing is superb. Alex Clark does a wonderful job covering the intricacies of building many different Tiger versions (this is his second Osprey title) and his writing style is both instructional and easy to read. A careful reader can look forward to spending two or three hours enjoying this book and walk away with ideas for improving future Tiger projects. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Frustration and depression
Of the 17 reviews here, only three claim to have got the clock to work.I'm surprised there are any at all.I got as far as the escapement, but no amount of twiddling and adjusting would get it to work properly.Isaac Asimov in the Introduction recommends buying two copies, so that you can learn from your mistakes, but I don't see how that would help, since I already had cut and assembled as painstakingly as I am capable.I think the source of my problems may have been the gluing, which warped some of the parts. But I don't see any way of avoiding this:the parts have protrusions which prevent them being squashed between heavy books as they dry.Perhaps using a different glue?By the time I realized that it was never going to work, I had already spent so many hours working at it that the frustration led to depression.

4-0 out of 5 stars Educational if not functional
My husband and I just finished a New Year's weekend marathon of clockmaking.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, but could use improved instructions
This is not a beginners project!

3-0 out of 5 stars Incomplete; a disappointment
On coffee table books such as this I usually borrow a copy from my local library before I lay down 30-plus dollars at my high street stockist (hobby shop, Yank). It's a good thing that I followed my usual pattern with "Remembering Revell..." since the book covers only US-based operations during the period 1952-1979. Revell's sizeable, more profitable and argueably more interesting UK, West German, Mexican (Lodela) and Japanese design and manufaturing operations are virtually ignored. The UK shop does get some ink but it is primarily spent criticizing the British tool and die makers. To be accurate the book should have been titled something like "US Revell Models 1952-1979".
5-0 out of 5 stars Plastic Fantastic Age
This book takes a look at the history of Revell in its heyday of the 1950s to the 1970s.The book looks at the development of everything from the kit itself to the artists who drew the box tops which drove me nuts because I could never even come close tomaking the model like what was on the box top.Read more
