5-0 out of 5 stars Good Title for Elementary School Kids
Some number of months ago, I gave my neighbor's kid some gliders preprinted by NASA as a PR gift (Got them at Oshkosh). It wasn't long before he was stopping me on the way back from work to ask if I had anymore planes! This title fit the bill (more planes). It was in color and precisely precut for little hands. I almost didn't gift it!
5-0 out of 5 stars awesome paper airplane book
I happened across this book in a bookstore and could not resist buying it.

2-0 out of 5 stars not as good as other Osprey Modelling books.
The major factor in my rating is the lack of "How-to" included. The book is full of great photos and does give ideas but assumes you know how to paint and weather and gives no recipes or photos of how to do it.If you are already a master modeler you don't need this info but than you also don't need this book either. As a contrast the Osprey modelling book about the SdKfz 251 halftrack not only has great pictures but lots of directions and photos of how to paint and weather. That is what the T-55 book lacks. You can find much better build articles on the many online AFV/armor websites.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for T-55 modellers.....
.....actually the skill exhibited in this title makes it a must have for any fan of modern Soviet armor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Has some wonderful ideas
This book is chock full of great ideas and includes some more modern furniture..something that many miniature books are lacking. The directions are a bit difficult to follow and have to be read very carefully.Measurements are sometimes not correctly stated. If your unsure..make apaper pattern first. Final results will be much better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know to decorate your dollhouse!
Among "How-To" books, this is a standout.Includes specifics on how to build everything from victorian parlor furniture to a palm-shaded island porch.Instructions are clear, patterns are already in 12-inch scale.Beautifully illustrated.A must for any miniaturist! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Geodesic Basics
The book provides basic insights into geodesic design of higher frequency structures from the fundamental icosehdral blocks. Cut out patterns provide some hands on builds. Worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars The geometry of geodesic domes using cut-out models
This is classified as a children's book, but it isn't so simple. It would be suitable for teenagers but the mathematics is relevant whatever your age and it is described clearly and concisely. However, if you're looking for abook on dome architecture this is not for you. There are two models thatdemonstrate the ideas about the subdivision of triangles to approximate thesphere based on the octahedron and the icosahedron. Then there are three'architectural' dome models and lastly a model of the carbon moleculebukminsterfullerene. Each model is included for a reason and there's anexplanatory text to accompany each one. The book does not cover realexamples of domes much (only a sketch of the Expo 67 pavilion), althoughthe introduction briefly explains the history and reason for them. It isimportant to understand that this is not a book about dome architecture: itcovers the math behind the concept and explains it using cut-out models.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Childrens book with cutout domes.
Don't be fooled by the title of this book.It is not an architectural treatise, it's a children's book with cutouts that let you make a paper model. If you want a good book on the architecture of Geodesic Domes, buya biography of Buckminster Fuller. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars More 'Aero' Than 'Practical Techniques'
I bought this and Martin Simons' 'Model Aircraft Aerodynamics' at the same time, thinking that I'd have all the bases covered: Simons for aero, Lennon for construction techniques.Silly me.Why would I think a book entitled 'Practical Techniques for Building Better Models' would have anything to do with construction?
5-0 out of 5 stars What an Amazing book
This book was truly inspiring for me. I have been building and flying model aircraft for over a decade and I was amazed by how much I didn't know about model aircraft design. The book has awesome, in-depth explanations on every topic associated with rc planes. I was able to successfully construct my own airplane the first time using the guidelines in this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in designing, or just the design of model aircraft.

4-0 out of 5 stars Crammed with disjoint information yet informative.
Though overall a very useful book, this book seems to be a somewhat disjoint conglomeration of various articles about aircraft design that perhaps were once published in a magazine. There is no soft introduction for the beginner - be prepared to be inundated with a slew of graphs, equations and very dense writing that will demand some qualitative understanding of basic aerodynamics. (I would personally recomment _Understanding Flight_ by David Anderson and Scott Eberhardt, which is not very mathematical and quite easy to understand for a novice like myself.) The fact that these disjoint chapters don't flow together is a bit annoying, but on the other hand it is quite pleasant to have such a wide array of specific information in such a portable book. The section on reading airfoil charts is terse and yet intelligible. Be warned: if you're not familiar with the basics, you might get lost quickly and have to reference another text, as did I. If you're just a little dusty, however, there will be a very short review. (For example: how is angle of attack different than incidence, and how do these two things relate to both cambered and symmetrical airfoils? What causes a pitching moment?)Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice little extra
Since I will often put 4-5 bookmarks in a single book, these collections of bookmarks are very useful to me.How can you go wrong with wizards and dragons?THe are fairly durable and very colorful.I definitely recommend them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bookmarks ;|
They are bookmarks ;) I needed something to make it to the $25.00 SuperSavers Shipping Limit. They are nicely printed on card stock but nothing special but if you are at the $24.95 point and don't want to pay for shipping they are great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perplexed
Just like one of the other reviewers, I purchased the bookmarks at the last moment (actually so I'd qualify for the super-saver shipping). When I checked out, however, I noticed that I was charged $1.50 for the item + a $1.99 sourcing fee. Can anyone tell me what a sourcing fee is? I've never heard of it and I've looked all over Amazon to find out and it's not listed.

There is no doubt that this book is an instrument designed to further the sale of the Woodland Scenics product line for building sb terrain for model railroads but that does not diminish its usefulness at all. 3-0 out of 5 stars Omits a Bit too much detail at times...
Gordon Williamson has written several volumes for Osprey's New Vanguard series that covers each of the main classes of warships in Germany's Second World War fleet. In German Pocket Battleships 1939-1945, Williamson outlines the technical details and careers of the three German warships of the "Deutschland" class: Deutschland (later Lutzow), Scheer and Graf Spee. William's summary is succinct, sometimes too succinct, such as omitting any attempt at discussing the relative contribution of these ships to the German war effort. Williamson also fails to notice that the Graf Spee is currently being raised and that parts of the ship were already salvaged in early 2004 - his readers might like to know that parts of the Graf Spee are already on display in Uruguay.
