I just got the book and find it very informative .
I have a question actually.For the Victorian Doll's House Carpet, the color chart doesn't seem to match up with the displayed rug. (page67 Needlepoint - A foundation course).Could you help me with this?Thankyou.

Needlepoint - A Foundation Course by Sandra Hardy is a wonderful book. perfect for needlepoint beginners like me. it takes you through all the why's & wherefores before you start stitching. it also describes eachstitch in detail, explaining advantages & disadvantages of each stitchin including strength, finished look & coverage. the book uses largeeasy diagrams & has a small project for each stitch to get youcomfortable. there are larger projects in the book in later chapters wherebeadwork, tramming, shading, decorative stitches, petit point, wastecanvas, space dying & designing are covered. there is also an excellentsection on finishing.Read more

Quick and easy Gifts

A real worth of your collections
I am always fascinated with Helen's works. This one particular. I should say her technique is not that complicated and subtle compared to Chinese SuZhou embroidery's. But her ways of interpreting country creatures like flowers, plants, birds, animals are so vivid that they seem to come to life. Her stitches are just like impressionists' stroke, which capture the every essential piece of natural beauty. I love her landscape works especially. I regret not seeing so many landscape works in this book, but her two works of the same scene in late spring and early winter already ensnare my heart and I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves embroidery and nature. ... Inspired to actually stitch up one of these beautiful design
For those of you who want to stitch up these wonderful designs, you should be aware that the yarn used is from a UK company called Paterna.They also sell tapestry wool in the US under the name Paternayan.All of the numbers that do not start with a D are accurate, however the numbers that start with a D are only available from the UK version of the company.You will need to either substitute for them or order the yarn directly from the UK. Jill Gordons apprenticeship with Fassett was time well served, this is a stunning book. I have owned it since its publication date and referred to it constantly both as inspiration and admiration. I cannot rate it too highly, and recommend it to any creative soul, and especially to fibre artists seeking to further develop their skills in colour, composition and balance. This is not a how to book, nor is it for those who wish to slavishly copy others designs. But for those who value beautiful needlepoint, this is a must have addition to the library.

Beautiful design but disappointing
I have purchased many needlepoint books and used most of them with wonderful results.I found Ms. Gordon's designs some of the most innovative and colourful.Unfortunately it is impossible to use them unless one has an endless supply of wools readily available as the author neglected to give us the amounts. The charts are also very difficult to read. I think that this book could have used a more careful editing in order to make it useable.That said, I will continue to purchase Ms. Gordon's future endeavours, if only to ooh and aah at her fabulous designs. ... Jill Gordon has clearly surpassed her first book with this one...And in contrast to the first book, she has included charts for all designs- hooray!!!Another gripe people had about her first book was that she did not include amounts of yarn, however she does in this book.Another improvement over the first book is that the charts are in color and larger, which makes them much easier to follow. Wonderful colours!

This is one of my very favorite books about needlepoint.The author ispassionate about her subject.The photography is superb and the designsare varied and spectacular.There are no graphs in this book, but anexpert stitcher could copy the photographs as many are large enough to seeindividual stitches.If you have a library of needlepoint books, but don'thave this one--search for it in out of print books!!! ... An overview of needleworks and crafts with many pictures.
