One of my favorite Ribbon Crafting Books!
Helen Gibb is the best at reintroducing the Victorian Art of Ribboncraft and offering practical projects for today.
Beautiful pictures, a real treat!
I came across this book at a local craft shop and quickly became enthralled by the beautiful projects.I have never done ribbonwork before nor even thought about doing it.But once I saw this book I very much wanted to learn!

Helen Gibb has once again prepared a book that not only teaches the art of ribbonwork, but is an eye appealing treasure,blending directions for creating ribbonwork pieces of today with those of the past. Beautiful examples of past treasures have been painstakingly arranged and photographed. disappointed in cd
It was not clear to me before I purchased this book that the embroidery designs used in this book must be purchased separately -- they were not included on the cd. The book said they were available from Amazing Designs but that does not seem to be the case as they are not available. Very disappointed in this book.

Exceptional instructions
Eileen has done it once again and produced an easy to follow instruction book. The beauty of each design is detailed for one to just want to jump right in and start an embroidered quilt. With the embroidery designs on the cd is well worth the money. ... Read more

Instructions better, designs not as good as her previous book
After receiving Trish Burr's previous book, Redoute's Finest Flowers in Embroidery (see my review there), I hurried to purchase this one as well. I'm feeling a curious mix of satisfaction and disappointment with this one.

Reproduction worth having
A lovely way to decorate your home or you can just add one or two to any room in your house.This can also be used to make gifts and I can tell you from experience, everyone appreciates a gift made from an antique pattern.

A beautiful book
This is a wonderful boook, full or charming and beautiful patterns.The designs are all fine thread crochet.Around 35-40 of them are filet, and these are the nicest filet I've ever seen.The most beautiful are the edgings and the floral designs.Many of the patterns are for larger items, such as table cloths or bedspreads, but all of these (excepting the filet)are made up of a smaller motif repeated many times.This enables the crocheter to choose a design and make whatever they want from it;one could use a tablecloth design for a bedspread, or a bedspread for a runner.The directions are as clear as any I have found,and the results are just spectacular.Yes, the pictures are in black and white, but as it is all white crochet ona dark backround, it is not very important.A wonderful book, certainly well worth the price.

When Crocheting was an art
I learned to crochet about 30 years ago, but when I started again about 10 years ago it was hard to find the old patterns.I was happy when I found this book in 1997.The patterns in this book use threads in 30, 40 and sometimes 60 and 80.It's a fantastic resource for delicate and drop-dead gorgeous crochet projects like vanity sets, bedspreads, dinner sets, edging and insets.I prefer these older patterns because they really take the skill of crocheting to it's highest and most artistic level.

Excellent and realistic
Over 130 pages of great instruction and realistic photos that show that anyone who takes the time can do applique.Not only are the designs that you can Xerox for patterns crisp, but the instruction is easy to read and follow. Excellent applique technique reference
This is the best book to be published so far since "Baltimore Beauties & Beyond Vol I" by Elly Sienkiewicz for learning and refining the technique of hand applique.Both the text and illustrationsare easy to follow for the quilter new to the art of applique, as well asthose of us who "think" we have learned it all(smile) .AlthoughI wasn't particularly fond of the patterns, they are very well thought outto teach each technique in a progressive fashion.As an advanced appliquermyself, I found better ways of refining and improving some of my own work. Beaded Embellishment
This book is one of the most exciting beading books I have read.Not only does it have beautiful projects with a variety of techniques, but the gallery of pieces made is out of this world.I would recommend it strongly for any serious or even beginning beader.Beading rocks!!!

Very comprehensive - Excellent!
I am just beginning with fabric arts and this book was just what I was looking for.I had never done beading on fabric before.This book gave a little history, talked about supplies and showed several basic steps. It had several nice projects to work on as well as several lovely pictures of other artists' work.It also goes into color theory and talk about design which I only skimmed over, but that's just me.Overall, very, very helpful for someone starting out in this area.

Super Book Nice color pictures
This is a must have if you do spirit dolls or any beading at all..The color pictures threwout the book alone make it all worthwhile but the lesson plans are very detialed and easy to follow.Im really really glad I finally bought this book..I only wish I had before now..B.W. ... Read more

For owners of other Nancy Martin books...beware
Lovely book with beautiful quilts made by the very talented Nancy J. Martin.I loved the variations of color and mood provided for each quilt pattern.But honestly, I sent this book back because I have several of Martin's books which include all of these same patterns.In other words, this book duplicated the patterns by her that I already have.Just a word of caution for those of you who may own some of her other books. ... Fantastic! Save a fortune
Elizabeth Bradley designs are still very popular. This books includes a few designs that cost $200.00 in kits each, plus a few that are not available as kits. Very good!

My favorite needlepoint book
I love this book!I have about 19 needlepoint books, but this is the one I go back to again and again.For those of you who have only worked with kits and lusted after the VERY EXPENSIVE Elizabeth Bradley kits, this isthe way to go.If you are a cross-stitcher, the added plus is that Bradleyadvocates a cross-stitch because it makes the cushions more durable, itdoesn't distort the canvas, and it's what many Victorian needleworkersdid. tiny treasures
simply wonderful. I spent hours just looking at the pictures showing the samples. i'm looking forward to begin my first work. Great expectations for tiny masterpieces

Wonderful book
This is a wonderful book, but I'm a little wary of giving it too good a review.The projects all look great, but I found a mistake in the first project that I tried.If you work the Turkoman rug exactly as the chart, it will not turn out the same as the picture.The border, in fact, will not even be symmetrical (as the picture is).As an experienced crafter, I picked up on this and was able to correct it, but I was disappointed to find the error in the first place.I look forward to trying other projects and hope they are error-free.

Emphasis on the "creative"
I love this book. This is the book my Grandma had on her shelf when she taught me to embroider as a little girl. When I went back to embroidery recently this is the book I bought. Unlike many modern embroidery books, Enthoven's work proceeds from the premise that everyone can produce their own designs using embroidery. Rather than giving you a series of projects to copy, she teaches an abundance of stitches, and lots of encouragement to explore them. She emphasizes the practice of "doodling" with stitches as a way of coming up with your own designs - something I've found really helpful.I've actually found that I am able to come up with more lively designs with my needle than with pencil and paper.
Wonderful and unusual...
This is a fantastic book for anyone looking to branch out with embroidery. It includes detailed instructions for creating hundreds of unusual stitches from around the world, along with interesting commentary on the history of and uses for the stitches, ideas for design, and many (mostly black and white) pictures. Enthoven also provides valuable instructional information for both new and experienced embroiderers, and her enthusiasm for the subject is inspirational. Highly recommended! ... Read more

I am novice in Tunisian crochet and the book was really helpful in teaching me how to do it. There are a lot of stitches presented, with some unusaul effects - some are easy, some are not. Color, design and symbolism beautifully defined
As a textile collector and as an individual interested in anthropology I found this book full of invaluable insights.A good, clear read, excellent pictures and wonderful research makes this book an excellent reference. If you aren't intensely interested in the history of cultures and their expression in textiles this is not the book for you.If you are interested in such things: I highly reccomend this book.

This book came free with my embroidery machine. The companion cd has some cute shapes that I plan to use, but the projects are pretty lame. I would not have bought the book given a choice.
