5-0 out of 5 stars Not an origami recipe book
Dr. Lang delves into the hows and whys of origami design exploring origami the way Alton Brown explores food and cooking.
5-0 out of 5 stars A truly incredible book!
By far and away the most comprehensive book on origami design and theory that I have every seen. There are thousands of books containing origami models, but few, if any, actually take the time to explain how the models were created in the first place. If Robert Lang didn't already hold a Ph.D., this book could serve as a dissertation. In addition to the theory and concepts of origami model design, this book also contains excellent models that demonstrate the principles covered in each chapter.I have always enjoyed folding Robert Lang's models in the past. They are challenging and extremely rewarding.I am a very good techincal folder but I could never really create my own models. This book has started me on my own path towards creating my own origami models to fold. While this book certainly could be useful to beginning origami folders, it best serves intermediate to advanced enthusiasts.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great origami book
This is one of the best origami books ever written.Robert Lang is known for producing complex origami models and here he teaches the mathematical thought process behind the creation of these pieces. The book contains a number of chapters covering different methods of producing particular types of origami works and then each chapter ends with a series of advanced origami models for you to make with complete diagrammatical instructions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful origami book
This superb book contains an enormous range of origami models representing various forms of sea life. These range from sea urchins and starfish through to the Blackdevil Angler Fish and the almost impossible to fold Chambered Nautilus Shell.I have in my time folded most of the models and my favourites include the Angler Fish, Goldfish and the Murex shell which is wonderful in a textured foil.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not Impossible, but a Challenge
I've owned this book for a number of years and only recently have I been able to fold most of the creatures in it. This book is definitely not for greenhorns, but if you look closely at every single diagramme in the book, and interpret them exactly and are very careful, every model in the book is foldable. The end result is gorgeous paper sea creatures that can impress basically anyone--yourself included. I've been amazed at how beautiful the things I'm folding from this book turn out.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This is one of my favorite Origami books ever. If you are thinking about getting it you should. This book will appeal to any body, from beginner to advanced. I love the models in this book. It contains various models of many genera and cover many of the marine phylums such as variety of gastropods, cephalodops, crustaceans, and many fish from Angler Fish to sharks to Sun fish. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A great book full of variety!!
This is the first origami book I have bought,Origami Zoo. Before I got this book I had to print heaps of stuff off the internet, and before long I had a huge collection of stuff I put in a folder. I soon found out that all the models I had printed out were way too hard for me, even though I'm around the intermediate to advanced level!! As cool as they may sound, the Biplane always confused me, the Bee always ripped and the Alien always became too small and thick.
4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of animals - Intermediate to Advanced
There is a great selection of animals to make in this book. Some are very advanced and complicated.Others are easier and more familiar. If you are a beginner, but are familiar with folds and instructions, it is worth giving it a try for a challenge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolute excellence... Don't Miss!
Even though the final models are *extremely* complex, the book begins with very interesting texts about origami origins, evolution and approaches to creation; and the models go in progression from the very simplest ones. So actually this is an excellent "transition" book - if you have some experience with origami and have the ambition to try more complex stuff, there cannot be a better book than this one to guide you. The diagrams are crystal clear, and so are the indications. I got this book when I was 11 (Im 24 now), and it is still every bit as amazing an enjoyable as back then!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book! Great Designs! Very thorough
I love this book!I've bought several money origami books and this hands down is the most comprehensive book I've seen. Here are some major pros in this book:

I love this book, it's easy to understand if you already know a bit about origami other wise I would not suggest using this as a first time book.

1-0 out of 5 stars A great disappointment
The book contains 25 designs. Many of these are pointless tile patterns. Most figures are standard designs - you join 2 post-its to make your starting square paper. A number of designs would require an explanation for a viewer to recognise what they are suppposed to be. When I ordered the book I expected I would end up with lovely little figures across my desk cleverly folded from post-its - there wasn't one figure I would display. Don't bother with this book - there are plenty better - even free stuff off the web is higher standard.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY CLEVER
You will need sticky notes of course

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice stocking stuffer
This little bookk, at a great price, makes a nice intro to origami. It is very basic. I found that most of the paterns in this book are repeated in Montroll's "Teach Yourself Origami," so I passed this on on to a cousin who was intrigued when she saw what I'd been doing. It's fine as far as it goes, but it isn't intended to go vary far. You can't beat the price. I thought it was a misprint.

5-0 out of 5 stars Origami bood
Great for beginners. My 7 and 10 year old grandchildren had no trouble with the shapes on the first several pages.Designs get a little more complicated farther into the book.My grandchildren drew eyes and mouths on some of them and the animals looked even cuter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Average Quality Paper
This is a pretty standard set of origami paper, no special bells or whistles, but the large size makes it suitable for very intricate, complex models with many tiny folds. It is also good for beginners who are still learning the art of origami.A word of caution: the dye on the red paper and the other deep colors tends to rub off while you're folding.

3-0 out of 5 stars This paper is BIG
This paper is bigger than I thought it whoud be.The colors are good.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good practice paper
I received my paper and ripped open the pack so I could start folding.I was immediately disappointed by the selection of colors. The colors themselves are good enough, however they are boring. They make yourcreations uninteresting and drab.I prefer patterned color paper.Thepaper performs well and I recommend this paper for practicing because ifyou mess up you didn't lose all that much. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best book by Montroll
If you like John's origami books, this one is a must! I would rate it as my favorite of all of his, and that's saying a lot. In addition to the models mentioned by others, this book has the two bases in it, which I found particularly fun to play with on my own. I used the dog base to fold my own versions of about a dozen different dog breeds. I'm sure any experienced folder could come up with others!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent detail
This, in my opinion, is Montroll's best book out there. The small details of the models are superb, especially the panda bear and the camel. Most of the animals stand up by themselves and make great displays.

5-0 out of 5 stars The FINEST book of Montroll!!
In this book Montroll not only makes some of the best animal models so far but also creates systems of folding 4-leg animals and 6-leg insects. The folding steps in each model are very natural, with great logic and wits.Montroll is so scintillating in these designs that he creates 2 outstandingorigami bases, Montroll's Dog base and Montroll's Insect base. Inapplication of these 2 bases many vivid animals (REALLY VIVID!) are foldedand exhibited. Other animals are well-designed too, including a cock, apenguin from the front side, etc. In my opinion, this is the finest amongMontroll's origami books. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking!
My first book by Ms. Fuse was not in English, and it was also my first unit origami book.I have been hooked ever since. The folding is not bad at all, although fitting the pieces together is like putting together a three-dimensional puzzle. The result is surprisingly sturdy, too.I find it a peaceful way to take a break and get my mind off of everyday annoyances. The word "Fabulous" in the title is well-deserved. When put together properly, the lids are decorated with geometric designs, lilies, bunny rabbits, a heart, butterflies, a crane...These are not images, but three-dimensional.If you love origami, boxes, math, or puzzles, this book will amaze you.Given the amount of pleasure you can get out of a few sheets of paper and this book, it is a real bargain.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful origami boxes
This delightful origami book features a collection of designs by Tomoko Fuse which have been published elsewhere in her Japanese language books but which appear here accompanied by English text.As always Miss Fuse's boxes are beautifully finished both inside and out and choosing the correct paper can add a great deal to the quality of the finished product.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good book - intermediate to advanced

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, not for beginners
The Good:
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic origami book
This excellent origami book consists of a selection of original models designed by David Brill, Chairman of the British Origami Society and one of the most talented origami creators and folders in the United Kingdom.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Models
This book will provide some fantastic / lifelike models. This is not, however, a beginners book. A novice will be frustrated over the difficulty of the models. Montroll's "Teach yourself Origami" would be more advisable for people looking for innitiation in this elegant art form. The scene of St George and the Dragon, the Lion family, the Nativity, etc. are true works of art! I deffinitively recommend this book for anyone who would like to become an accomplished Origami artist. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Masterful creations
There is a huge variety or animals, the models are not as hard as I thought they would be.I would recommend this book over any other I have purchased. There aren't any simple models thrown in to just fill the pages, they are all first class creations.

2-0 out of 5 stars Maybe you can do it if you've done origami before???
Certain folds are impossible to figure out from the pictures and arrows. For example, in the "Swan", step 4 shows what looks like 3 folds... I think. And then a triangle like shape seems to be the result in step five. The step they show does not make any sense.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cute little animals
Maybe because we see money every day folding it into origami is very interesting,This book has clear instructions on how to make a variety of animals from dollar bills.(Use the Look Inside feature on Amazon to see the variety of origamis you can make.)The instructions have a clear diagram for every step of the folding.

2-0 out of 5 stars Worth the bucks...but only barely
This book looks nice, seems like a good idea, and is user friendly (spiral bound, etc). However, the problem is that the models contained in the book are sorely lacking. It's most likely true that everyone will find something that they figure is worth their time to fold, but overall, the models are not overly clever nor interesting.Furthermore, for me at least, it is a disappointment that so many of the models require more than a single dollar bill, sort of defeats the purpose to me.(Especially since the majority of the models that require more than one bill aren't impressive to begin with).
3-0 out of 5 stars Good Value
First off, let me start by saying this book is a great value. It's only $6 so if you get a couple of good designs then hey.. its worth the nominal investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Advanced origami book
The author of "The Complete Book of Origami" has become notorious for producing some of the most advanced origami models in the literature and this book contains a range of models which cannot be considered anything but difficult. Most of the pieces will not be possible from ordinary paper but will require either foil or very thin bank weight paper to work well.Wet folding would also be suitable for some of the models though the diagrams for the elephant sail into a patch of fog when making its behind!
2-0 out of 5 stars a weird and expensive book
at the first reading this one looks interesting but don't be fooled!5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Origami
This is a great book-but only if you are already familair with origami. You cannot simply look at the diagrams, as Lang has made the text descriptions almost more important than the visual descriptions. The cuckoo clock is by far one of the most advanced models I've ever seen in a book-but there are some easier models as well. Most people will be able to find SOMEthing to make, but I would only suggest this book for a NON-beginner. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Yaaay! I am NOT alone!
It is refreshing to look at the reviews and find that others have had the same frustrations with this book as I have. Yes, I agree the color photographs are absolutely beautiful and inspiring. They sure suck you in and are a powerful tool to entice you into buying the book. The artist is wonderfully creative with her use of the pentagon, hexigon and out-of-the-mainstreem starting shapes which makes this book so unique.
2-0 out of 5 stars Me no likey
Well, I shouldve done more research on this book, but I don't like it because it requires too many other things to be used other than oragami paper. And sometimes the images of the pictures didnt seem very accurate, so i got confused a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Easy, but worth the challenge!
I did not have much experience with paper folding, so the designs in this book are quite a challenge. Most diagrams are easy to figure out but there are several which had steps missing from them, but in general they are easy to understand, though by no means easy to fold, since this book seems like its targeted at the more experienced people intersted in origami. Of the designs that I managed to make, they did come out exactly as they looked in the book, and the unique concept of using not square pieces of paper but pentagons, hexagons and octagons, is really an eye opener. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Something for Everyone
The version of this book currently shipping has fixed the math typo on the front page, and correctly states there are 89 models in this book. Previous reviewers have said this is not a book for beginners, but I beg to differ. About 25% of the models are simple enough for the average person with no origami experience to fold, with another 10% being slightly more difficult. The rest are intermediate to very advanced, so there's plenty of variety here. This book would be a good gift for anyone interested in paper folding, regardless of their skill level.
