Very confusing paperweight (if it was thick enough)
After reading Tomoko Fuse's excellent book on Unit Origami I wanted to get a little farther into it.This books seemed a good place to start.It is not. Origami for the serious Geometrician

I BOUGHT THIS BOOK FOR MY ONE NIECE, SHE HAS THE OTHER ONE BY: ROBERT J. LANG. THIS WAS WHAT SHE WANTED FOR EASTER. SO ALL I CAN SAY IS: FROM LISTENING TO HER, SHE HAS ALOT OF FUN WITH THE BOOK SHE HAS, THE PROJECTS ARE EASY, ALL YOU NEED IS PAPER. I THINK IT IS GREAT BECAUSE, A CHILD HAS TO USE THEIR MINDS, & NO BATTERIES, NOTHING TO PLUG IN, ONE OF THE FEW ITEMS OUT THERE, WHERE A CHILD CAN LET THEIR IMAGINATION GO WILD & THEY DO IT THEMSELVES.

Fascinating... but DEFINITELY not for beginners
If you're just starting out in origami, I really suggest averting from this book.No, really.Unless you start off taking origami very seriously and have your steel resolve handy, this book will only serve to discourage.There aren't a lot of easy designs in this volume, and there's plenty of designs towards the end that are obvious expert-level pieces.I'd go get a book that had a sizable section of traditional origami designs first, then I'd go pick a copy of this up.It's terribly fun once you have any idea what you're doing !

A good book, but I hope that this is not Lang's new style
The challenge (and pro) in this book is that you can make the completed model "move" by pull or push the model. And it contains some wonderful models, like the boat rower and the guitarist. However there aretoo many easy models here, and most of them can be found in other origamibooks. It's a good idea to make the model come to live, but I'm afraid somequintessential qualities of origami will be lost. A new and good try, but Ihope this isn't Lang's new style. From the very beginning Mr. Lang's modelsare always highly expected and appreciated and adored by folders around theworld, and always a challenge. So,fold us more super complex models..... ... frustration
I purchased this book because the pictures shown were interesting and something different - a good start, so I thought!The instructions however are seriously lacking in detail.Regardless of whether or not you are competent or familiar with origami, Mrs Hiney's instructions, or lack of, will be the source of serious frustration and major headaches! Columbus Cubes or bust!
Although not as fascinating as his PAPER CRYSTALS (a stellar work of modular origami), MATHEMATICAL ORIGAMI is a very solid work on the topic.David Mitchell again gives clear instructions in text and diagrams for a very intriguing branch of paperfolding.There are many books on geometric and modular origami, but Mitchell's are more than just "look at this neat design."Instead, they are well thought out and very intelligently written.A must-have for fans of the art.

Mathematical fun
My office generates lots of notices printed on brightly colored paper (usually printed on only one side). This is a great use for scrap paper. I think it is somewhat challenging (highschool level). I completed all but one. (the Decorative Rhombic Dodecahedron). Review of Mathematical Origami

Hysterically funny
This book is just the thing to bring a little genital excitement into your dull, drab, wretched life. It proves beyond a shadow of a foreskin that it is a phallacy that the penis can't be funny. The authors' hilarious exhibit of penis performance art is guaranteed to drive all your inadequacies away. My favorite is the puppet with the pop-up feature. This is one of the funniest and most entertaining books I've ever seen. I'd love to see the show if it ever comes around to my obscure and vanishing corner of America's sexual landscape.

Challenging
While detailed and imaginative, "Puppetry of the Penis: The Ancient Australian Art of Genital Origami", is only the tip of Simon Morley and David Friend's fascinating show of penis-art.This book explores the many different shapes and positions the penis can be temporarily molded into.And thank you Morley and Friend, for rising to the occasion, and putting your penis-art in a book, for the world to see. Well what can I say about this fabulous book. Before I read this book my life was dull, imcomplete but through this book I discovered that my penis was not an inanimate peice of flesh just hanging there in between my legs but a instument of pleaseure that I can share with many people through the magic of puppetry! great book
This is a wonderful book.I loved reading it from page one through end.Has great patterns and instructions on how to obtain the same effect as book.I would recommend this book for anyone

This Book Doesn't Disappoint
Many craft & quilting books are disappointing once you actually read through them. They will have one special item (usually shown on the cover) and the rest is the same old thing, tired from repetition in every other book on the market and rehashedonce again. This is not the case with Kumiko Sudo's book, "Fantasies & Flowers". Every page, every pattern was new and delightful with beautiful photography and color reproduction. I highly recommend it as an innovative addition to your quilting library.

Inspiring
A beautiful book, with story-like descriptions that go along with each design. I'm an intermediate sewer/quilter and found that while giving easy-to-follow instructions, Kumiko Sudo also leaves plenty of room for the imagination, and her designs are sure to spark creativity! I've successfully completed two different blocks: they're enjoyable to make and a pleasure to contemplate once finished. Beautiful book
This is a beautiful book, and the models are great, too!
Frustration at its peak!
I was attracted to this book by the picture of the hibiscus origami flowers on the front, never mind the saying, "don't judge a book by its cover." Well, I should have listened. the folds and lines were very confusing. the designs were nice and attractive, but this book made it tough to achieve the beautiful goals. attracted initially by the hibiscus, i immediately tried to make that, having previous experience in origami, i thought i could handle it. the diagram was a mess of dots, dashes, arrows, and lines. i could not, try as i might, make that blasted hibiscus. i haven't picked up the book since, except to hold it in my lap now as i write this review for reference.

Does what it says, nearly.
I couldn't pass up a book on origami with "teach yourself" in the title. I was expecting an organized presentation of the basics, and that's just what I got. The author introduces the basic folds one at a tim, using simple models for practice, and then expects you to be able to use them by just referring to their names. That can make for some paging back and forth, but I have no problem with that. But I did wish that he included more verbal instructions for some of the steps. Studying the diagram alone just fdid do it for me, though I eventually figured out what I was supposed to do. I think this criticism could be applied to very origami book I've seen.

lovely designs
These designs are lovely and can be used year round as well as at christmas. They are easy to do just requiring a pair of small sharp scissors. Wouldn't recommend for small children who shouldn't handle sharp scissors or can't make fine motor movements to get the edges etc. Will be able to use these for years to come.

Will get you started!
I have always made paper snowflakes since I was a child.So...when I saw this book available I snatched it up to give me more ideas.Some of the designs are difficult, so I would not generally recommend this book for children. I used the cut-out designs exactly as portrayed, but also to use freely as a starting point in my own way.

Medium difficulty; uninspired designs

great book for the beginer
Great book for the beginer in origami. Many great and fun projects.

What a fun book!!!
This is SUCH a cute book! What a great idea to package the models, directions and paper all in one book. The choice of models range from the basic to the more complex (for those serious folders) and the paper (included in the back) is FABULOUS--from the super colorful to the super fun. I am almost through the whole book and am buying a few more copies as gifts for Christmas.

Easily the best origami book out there.
This is easily my favorite book on origami.All the diagrams are clear, the models are very detailed, and more importantly, all of them are an awful lot of fun to make, and very rewarding.While it has models from the whole range of difficulty levels, it focuses primarily on the advanced folder. The Ultimate!
I Remember When I Got The 3 Final Steps On The Lobster. I Got so Into Origami That I Started Making Lobsters, Crabs And Cranes During School! I Have Loved Origami ever Since I Was 9 Years Old. This Book Was A Little Easy For Me, But For People That Can Only Make Cranes, Tigers, Paper Cups and other Easy Things. This Book is A Little Over Your Head.

Animal Origami for the Enthusiast
This is a great book, not quite for beginners, though. In this book, you work your way up through the angel fish (easiest) to the lobster (hardest). The book has great step-by-step intructions which helps you create a model with great detail. Pretty but not easy
I find this an interesting book with some incredible origami pieces, but be careful when buying it, because it is not as easy at it seems.If you are a novice in origami, you�ll need patience and orientation from someone who knows more than you.Anyway, there is indeed beautiful origami.

Full of Creativity and Inspiration
This book is quite charming if you like working small. This book contains instructions on how to make dozens of projects using small squares of paper. Most of the projects require the folding of either 4cm or 5cm squares which is about the size of a tea bag, hence the name.Read more

What a great book!
I am a beginning origami enthusiast and have only five origami books to my name.However, four of them are by John Montroll and this book, Mythological Creatures, is one of the best!!The drawings are easy to follow, the designs are very different and challenging and when completed, the three-headed dragon is just awesome!!It took me four hours to fold it, but it was worth the time.Get this book!The folds are great and the results are worth every penny!

Great Models for Intermediate Folders
This book has my favorite Montrol Model, Cerberus the three headed dog who guards the gates of hell, and my second favorite Pegasus.I had an old Sakoda model of a the flying horse but this one far exceeds it. I've seen better!
I was very disappointed in Montroll's origami books.the directions/diagrams were not clear or complete.i was also disappointed in the end results of the pieces.they lacked the detail despite the complicated folds that were used to achieve the finished pieces. ... Read more
