I felt like I wasted my money
I think that I may have been put off by the artwork chosen because I found it dreary. I really learned very little.

The best!
I really like this book, only a few artist I didn't care for.The techniques were just styles I personally don't care for.It is just a matter of preference.The pictures and examples were great to look at, they motive and inspire new ideas for those that are already painters.

If ou are into this, get this one first.
I checked out all her books and this one is the most complete. It shows most of what she paints on TV. Her other books cover mostly one type, this is packed.

Beautifully presented book and worth every penny.However, patience is needed by the bucket load and I suggest to have taken lessons before trying these lovely paintings.Once you know how the world is your oyster .

A lot of information!
This is my favorite One Stroke book thus far.However, I had already purchased her video "flowers for all seasons" and the "one stroke painting course" and "easy murals" books, so I had a feel for the basics.Her books tend to have some of the same information in each (which I find annoying), but "flowers A to Z" has a lot of variety, so you can learn a lot of techniques just by going through and trying the different flowers. great for in depth info
If you want lots of inspiring pictures for funky furniture, this book is not for you.But if you want lots of detail on paints/glazes and techniques for classic faux & paint finishes this book will become one of your favorites.It is a must for any library.It is easy to understand as long as you have a small understanding of basic terms. Explainations are detailed and often multi methods are offered to obtain similar results.The author even manages to explain the history and origins of many techniques.This is a "must have" book for anyone with an interest in paint techniques.

Simply the best.
This is far more comprehensive than any of the numerous books on this subject. If you want lots of pretty pictures and information for a few DYI projects, any of the others are good. But if you want close-up photos and detailed explainations and line drawings of how to do hundreds of painted finishes, this is the book for you. You can't even imagine what a painted finish can do until you see this. 382 pages - says it all.

Excellent book.Would recommend to anyone interested in acrylics.

I can finally paint!

This book has the answers
I like this book very much. Not only does it answer color questions for inside my house, but it gives me color guidance and inspiration for the outside of my house (which is in dire need of a paint job). The photography in the book is lovely . The detailed instruction for choosing colors makes it easier than I thought it would be. This beautiful book is a useful tool.

My wife and I found this book very helpful in determining colors for the outside of our house.I learned what was needed to prep and paint the house as well.My wife enjoyed the information on color for our rooms and is planning a color scheme. This book is worth the investment.

A Must Have for any Painter or Wannabe Painter!
I have a ceramics business and got tired of plain ol painting and wanted to expand when I found this book.It has taught me so much and my sales are way up!The techniques are explained in precise detail and are easy to follow.It even has practice strokes which I found to be very helpful.There is not a more informative book about painting out there from taking care of your brushes to a beautiful array of advanced technique.This is just a plain wonderful book and I could not say enough good about it!

I've seen plenty and this is the best

wonderful book
It has beautiful painted rocks in it and shows just how easy it is to paint rocks. I am not a real good painter but, I do plan to give it a try. Instructions and ideas in this book are great even for a beginner like me.

ANYONE UP FOR A ROCK PARTY!??
I couldn't help it, it sounded so fascinating when I was invited to a "rock party".A friend held it, and all of us got together at her place.She had a bunch of field rock, (though I've heard smooth river rock is good also) and she had cleaned them all up and they sat, waiting on her front step. We took turns choosing the rock that "spoke to us" and brought it into the house for some good old fashioned gossip and a fun project with friends.Oh, yes, we had doubts!Halfway through those rocks were UGLY, and we took a few chip and salsa breaks so we could look at them from a distance (they looked better that way- Laugh!).But- amazingly enough- when we finished the last step, perfectly outlined in the book- our rocks looked GREAT!!I actually DISPLAY mine in my little rock garden, and get so many comments on their "uniqueness".What a fun idea!And takes almost no $ to get started, if you're like me, you already have the simple materials lying around from previous projects!!Great book, simple instructions, great tips and pointers- even for the novice.

My painting frenzy
I bought this book as part of my efforts to learn Dewberry's methods.It has numerous tempting projects, clearly written instructions, and an understanding of its audience's needs.Dewberry's method is the easiest I've ever tried, and the results are outstanding with just a little practice and concentration.I am very grateful to Donna for introducing the world to her painting techniques and I look forward to more books like this one.I have more projects lined up now than I'll be able to finish in a year, but I'm sure I'll complete them and be gratified with the results.

Indispensable for the Beginner
When I decided that I wanted to start painting, I bought five "How To" books. This one is my favorite, hands down. The book is well organized, well written, and contains a lot of beautifully detailed photographs. The author has kept the text to a minimum, letting the photographs do much of the talking, which works far better for me than other books that have more emphasis on written instruction.
Great for Beginners

Not very satisfying
Not a lot of information in this book (i.e. 'tiny lines must be drawn with an inky or soupy like substance'. However the book does not tells you how to get this substance. Water, a medium or what and how much?).

Outstanding!
I am a big Jerry Yarnell fan.He is an excellent teacher and it really shows in his instructional books.I had the good fortune to attend one of his workshops, and really learned a lot.I expect to be able to continue to learn from these books.
Great for beginner up to advanced students
This is a great book with simple steps to follow.I'm an oil painter "trying" out acrylic painting.This was my very first acrylic book.I was not disappointed (except I paid (more) at the bookstore for mine)...This is a good book for any beginner to begin with.

Yarnell makes it easy. He covers everything including materials and terminology. Outstanding art publication
This book is absolutely luscious. I could not wait to experiment with some of the innovative techniques described within. The whole book was very well laid out and easy to read with vivid and instructive photos and wonderful featured artists.

Great inspiration
We went to a home tour which included murals by Charles Grund. Wanting to finish one I started, I thought I would be inspired to complete it with a look at more of his works.... and I was!! I only wish there were more tips for painting techniques included.

As a decorative artist I can say this book has it's good and bad points.It has some good step by step action for begginers, but it's just bluh.The colors are bluh, Mr Grund knows how to paint though, and teaches You a couple of tricks,but never the less, it is lacking something.LIFE.The paintings are all well done, yet they aren't really alive.But at the same time,everything is nicely done, well researched,maybe it's just how the pictures are photographed...It is a good reference book to have, but not too inspiring. ... Good insights and a look into a skillful painter's technique
I shy away from buying art books, I've been burned by a few.You know the kind, where the artist just writes a book to get his name out and try to get more popular.The kind that are very light on technique yet show full color paintings on every page.I even decided not to buy any more books like that, but everyone kept recommending this one so I thought I'd try it.
A "MUST HAVE" book!!!
I own well over 50 art books. Some are instructional, some are just good for studying the great painters. Of all my instructional type books, I would rate this #1!! I love his style and his lessons are terrific. I teach Impressionist oil painting and my students love this book as well! I hope he writes another-I will buy it.

New, Exciting Hobby
I stumbled upon this hobby by accident. I was an art minor in college and have done a lot of oil paintings. When a friend told me about painting animals on rocks, I had no idea what she was talking about. I have painted my first animal (a leopard) and it turned out great. I gave it to my cousin and she raved about it. The author is wonderful in her ability to inspire and direct "the student." My only disagreement is with having to draw the outline on the rock starting out. I think that may add a certain difficulty. I just go ahead and paint, making slight adjustments when needed. I find doing it that way to be much easier. I am really loving my new found hobby and hope to possibly sell some animals on rocks in a craft fair held annually here where I live. I am 67 and retired.

Looking for Fun??
This book has so many ideas for a craft person.The instructions are very easy and the rocks are fun to make.My 5 year old grandson found it easy too.He made a Lady Bug.This book is worth having if you are loooking for a project that doesn't cost much money, and is really fun to do.
