Flying Pidgeon
I'd been dying to make the flying eagle that's on the back cover, but I had some difficulty with the instructions, which untilmately lead to a dud project. They weren't specific about which pieces NOT to add 1/4" to, as well as the sample progression photos were not all taken of the same project.I ended up with a flying torpedo/pidgeon/hot dog because I added 1/4" to the white head & tail.The rest of it was fine.Sigh.

The Most Fun for those with Quilter's Block!
I have had a heck of a time starting to quilt, as I am afraid of color selection, that is- until I bought this book!This is the most fun I've had in years!The designs are beautiful, fun, and belive it or not, EASY!I am just a beginner! You can complete a project in about a day! This book is fantastic!The other snippet book is wonderful too!If you don't buy these books, you are a crazy quilt!

What a fun concept
After receiving this book, I read it cover to cover twice! I couldn't wait to get started.This is so much fun.The author explains every step thoroughly.There are a lot of pictures to help guide one as well.Once you get started on the technique, you can't stop. What a beautiful way to learn decorative painting!
Priscilla has done a wonderful job with this book! It is very informative, with step by step instructions for each brush stroke technique as well as gorgeous photos of each phase of the design.All that you have to do isfollow her detailed directions, and practice, and you too can turn outstunning artwork! Everything you need to know is included in this book! It's just fun to page through and look at, as she is a very talentedartist!

All you need to begin to learn in step by step instructions.
Mrs. Hauser's book is a wonderful step-by-step guide to learning basic brush strokes of decorative painting and complete information on supplies whether you paint in acrylic or oils. She explains EVERYTHING! Preparing surfaces, Finishing surfaces, everything inbetween and even explains why! She has covered different brushes and what they do, and supplies for whichever medium you decide to do and always what and why you need them.I love this book!!

Painted Chairs: 25 Fresh and Fun Projects
Excellent book with wonderful ideas.Easy to understand and great illustrations.

Great fun designs, but not for beginners
This book is full of really wonderful, creative designs which the reader can replicate or modify according to personal preference.However, I found the instructions somewhat confusing and inconsistent in places.I found myself going back and rechecking something that I thought I understood.In addition, many of the designs use a stencilling technique.While this technique is explained in general terms, the book does not provide instructions for specific stencilled designs which use multiple paint colors.For example, a chair with a stencilled beehive is accompanied by a listing of 7 paint colors for the hive.Which color do I use first?How do I create the color gradations? Pretty, but needs more explanations
I fell in love with the chair on the front cover, and knew that the designs would be right up my alley.I enjoyed the pictures inside, and found them charming and inspirational. The colors are beautiful, and the whimsical designs quite appealing. Every time I look at the pics, I get excited about painting.That, alone, is a thumbs up in my opinion!Read more

Goofy over gourds
This is a great book if you enjoy gourds. If you don't know anything about gourds or don't know anything about painting, it is still a good book, as there are enough instructions to get anyone started. The author presents some of the most creative gourd designs I have ever encountered. The book was well worth the money to me.

this is one of the handiest books i own.
This book is not for the person who wants to do huge amounts of serious woodworking, and you need to come to it with an imagination. What it does is effectively tell you how to do a hundred or so styles and techniques. You can't replicate everything that's in here, but it's simply incredible to go through when you have a beat up old piece of furniture, and are open to thoughtful, imaginative refinishing.

HORRIBLE BOOK
I bought this, and both my wife and I went through it, and we both agreed that it was a worthless book.I can't believe it was ever published.I have returned it and will never buy another book by this author.Sorry to be so negative, but this book truly is worthless.

plenty of specific info for DIY types
This is preciesly the book I was looking for! Has copious details about re-finishing all kinds of furniture surfaces, from bare wood to laminate to steel, plus how to get a wide variety of effects. All New???
I bought this book thinking I would finally learn some new techniques, such as how get a 3-D effect using one-stroke.But like most of Donna's books, there is a lot of repeated material, so "all new" is misleading.The only "new" part of the book is a few projects that you can do -- once you buy the new Plaid products required!So, there's very little to learn from in this book.And, one problem I have with Donna:her step-by-step directions on how to do things often do not lead to the finished product displayed.I'm wondering if there's anyone out there who can provide some better one-stroke instruction. ... Paint the masters easily
Paint the Mona Lisa! This is a great paint by number set, but not your typical paint by number. Have your kids painting great works of Art.

The best paint system I've ever used
Just bought a copy of Douglas Brenner's Real Art ! In a word, stupdendous. I labored over the Mona Lisa for several weeks. This is almost as good as the original. Authentic colors, vivid hues, all at a reasonable cost. If you're looking to buy a gift early for the kids for Christmas, this is the perfect choice for "hues". Enjoy and don't listen to those other reviews. They're way off the mark - Jeanne

Don't bother
At first look, it appears that all the paintings in this kit are replicas of famous works, but in fact, only the Mona LIsa is. The others are reminiscent of famous works, which kind of loses the tongue-in-cheek aspect of this kit that I liked.

I've Been Looking for this Book!
I am an artist and painting teacher working in oils, which I love.But, increasingly, I have students who want to paint in acrylics.There aren't that many books out there on the subject, but this clearly explains how to paint in acrylics and achieve the fine art look of oils.It goes beyond, and shows what acrylics can do that oils can't.So, now rather than think there are two mediums, watercolor and oil with acrylics somewhere far below - I now see acrylics as a third medium with it's own advantages and possibilities.This book covers all of the basics that a good book or teacher covers ... color, temperature, value, edges and design."Capturing Light in Acrylics" should be on every acyrlic painter's shelf ... and maybe the oil painter's and watercolorist's, too.

Garden Decor Rocks
This book really showed me how to use decorative painting on tht outside of my home. I loved the the patterns in the book that can be enlargened for those who are afraid to "Free Hand" paint.One of the best parts is showing how to take "essential" items such as trash cans, fences, and clay pots and turn them into works of art.It also contains an excellent step by step of painting a realist bunny.I was amazed on how easily it was accomplished.

Addictive!
I also love this book. Instructions were easy to follow. My very first rock, a turtle, actually looked like the example! Which is pretty amazing, because I have very little experience drawing or painting. I also bought the book on painting flowers, and it is equally excellent. I think I am hooked....
