As before, each book is full to bursting with ideas and instructions to complete images. All are individual and well thought out.An excellent book yet again...!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Painting Made Easy
Bob Ross' wet on wet technique is perhaps the easiest method of landscape painting commercially available today. This book is a step by step (albeit black and white steps) instructional guide to painting 60 different paintings in the Bob Ross style. 5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book for Ideas
I borrowed this book from the Library and it was fantastic. Bob Ross uses a lot of colors and techniques that really bring his paintings to life. I needed to paint something in that one night and I found the perfect one. Agreat book when you need ideas on what to paint! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Just an OK to sub par book for glass painting
Just beginning glass painting and swayed by the previous glowing reviews, I purchased a copy of "The Glass Painting Book" by Jane Dunsterville. Also, the photo of the gorgeous painted mirror on the back cover certainly helped!I will say that I am VERY disappointed as the book didn't meet my expections.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Glass Painting Book
I was so struck by the beauty and vivid colors of the projects in this book that I just had to buy it. The picture lanterns on page 30 are ofinterest to me for they require no special glass, just old jars and suchthat we all have around, or can find at flea markets for little cost and weactually recycle and make them beautiful by painting. I also love herkindly faces of the Sun & Moon........just beautiful. Her techniquesare clear and easy to follow. The book is just so EXCITING!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for!!
When looking for a glass painting book, I was after a book that not onlyshowed me how to create the effect I am looking for, but to also give meidea's on what I want to paint. This book has it all.Technique, colouras well as design ideas. Brilliant!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Abundance Of "Happy Old Trees"
Good old Bob Ross! I used to watch his series in high school and his shows were great. This book conveys their tone and has the added bonus of giving us his finished landscapes to look at as long as we want. I got this book so I could see the paintings, but under his step by step instruction I've also tried my hand at creating my own---and making art this nice isn't as easy as Bob makes it look! Whether you want to use this as a how-to guide for your own time in front of a canvas, or you simply like Bob Ross' artwork, this is a friendly visit with everyone's favorite PBS guru of oil painting.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Joy of Painting
I actually purchased this book as a gift. The comments I received were: Good book but, not much variety in details of paintings.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ideas for the budding artist.
I found this book full of ideas and gives the brain the chance to see Beauty in this sometimes sad world.I have found that each book I have bought, including this one, gives the artist a sure fire way of producing something...even though I now tend to use imagination .Simply illustrated and easy to follow, you will be happy to follow Bob in his Wonderful Lessons.Excellent and instructive for the beginner and the established painter. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars a fantastic how-to for beginners and experts alike
Mastandrea's sharp eye for color is matched by her ability to articulate in step-by-step format the techniques for beautiful ceramic pieces. Techniques include how to do sponge painting, plaids, stamp painting, which brushes to use for which effects--enough information for someone who's never painted ceramics before but not so much that an experienced painter might find condescending. The projects included in the book are cheery, bright, and motivational. I highly recommend this book for any painter who has recently discovered paint-your-own ceramics studios but doesn't know where or how to start. ... Read more

Don't let the title fool you. 5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, the instructions!
Many years ago I was at a stranger's house (maybe the house was for sale or for rent), and I saw the most beautiful painted piece of furniture. This armoire was finished in a variety of rich brown textures, and I asked the woman how it had been done. Although she was the artist, she was very secretive, admitting only that she had used a wine bottle cork to produce one pattern.5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! A WHOLE book on graining! I'm in heaven!
You've seen all those lovely one or two page articles and photos in the popular magazines about how to do vinegar graining on furniture, boxes, and frames, but they left you wanting more. Well, look no further, for this isTHE answer. Loads of pictures with the author working on all kinds ofstuff. Lots of different tools to use. Very detailed...this author shareshis love for this craft (really artistry) and his sources with you in thisbook. You'll even want to sign up for his workshop in Philadelphia, PA ifyou can't get enough here! AND...don't forget to add these to your list asthey will round out your selection of decorative paintingbooks/photos/techniques: THE ART OF FAUX by Finkelstein, PROFESSIONALPAINTED FINISHES by Marx, and FOLK FINISHES by Teles. Editorial Review

Elevating silk painting to a high art form, this lushly illustrated book turns simple scarf decoration on its head. Some of the painted designs are so intricately detailed they look almost like photographs; others resemble glorious watercolor paintings. Techniques and tools are clearly explained, as are working with color and exploring design ideas. Be forewarned, however: a good portion of the book is devoted to advanced techniques, so the novice silk painter may not be able to jump right in. But for those with some prior experience, this volume really shines as a source of instruction and inspiration. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book to have
I hope this book will be back in print. It is beautifully illustrated and shows more than the standard silk painting techniques. The author introduces us, step-by-step, to various Asian techniques, which are really interesting. This book is written for beginning and advanced silkpainters, so she also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of various dyes, waxes and resists, how to use them on various silks, and which tools (both Western and Asian) work best -- accompanied by lots of photographs so that you know what she is talking about.5-0 out of 5 stars Moyer's two books are the best available on silk painting
This is Moyer's second book. You need to understand her first book well before getting this one.But then DEFINITELY get it. Several other silk painting authors have followed a good first book with terrible 2nd and3rd ones. That is certainly not true of Moyer. This book is every bit asexcellent as her wonderful first book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Just Keeps Working
This book contains a lot of basic, hands-on info on equipment and practical aspects of silk painting technique. What I have noticed most, isthat everytime I go back to this book as my skill and experience increase,I grasp and learn more. Things I didn't pick up at all on from my earlierreadings suddenly become real and make sense. This book concentratesheavily on wax, gutta and screen printing techniques. Roketsu-zome andalcohol techniques are covered in a very step-by-step, practical way. Thereis a lot of surface design, as well as garment design info. If you areinterested in block printing, bleach discharge, or shibori, you would dobetter to choose another title. Complex Cloth by Dunneworld is anotherfabulous textile book that covers almost every technique. Highly recommend! ... Read more

Editorial Review

To truly fool the eye, trompe l'oeil painting must display convincing perspective, proper depth of field, and a credible play of light and shadow. Jocelyn Kerr Holding carefully explores these principles and many more, with detailed explanations of all the basic considerations behind the creation of a trompe l'oeil image and the various techniques available for achieving it, including perforating an existing drawing, painting freehand, projecting a photograph, and using photocopies in a decoupage manner. Despite the "quick and easy" promise of the book's title, however, many beginners will be intimidated by the process as presented here, since Holding offers no patterns (other than a small section of architectural motifs for photocopying) and presumes an existing comfort level with the handling of paint and perspective on the part of the reader to achieve, in her words, "a freehand reproduction of reality." But those seeking a decent primer on the art of trompe l'oeil will find much useful information here, along with some nicely rendered eye-fooling images of book- and object-filled shelves, landscape views, and animals. 5-0 out of 5 stars An outstanding how-to guide to decorative painting
Quick & Easy Trompe I'Oeil is an outstanding how-to guide to decorative painting on walls, furniture and even bricks and presents easy step-by-step techniques for using the trompe i'oeil technique. A range of examples of pictorial art from all styles, from still life to Surrealistic paintings, provide painters with many different ideas to choose from, while the techniques are easy to follow and duplicate. Color photos pack the presentation.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fool the Reader
Jocelyn Kerr Holding's book is misleading and insulting with it's self-presentation as a"Quick & Easy" how-to book.In her chapter titled "Easy Trompe L'Oeil"She has the nerve to say "With those of you tackling this technique for the first time in mind, I decided to describe six easy projects simple to draw and amusing to do.The "step-by-step" explinations which follow have been written...so they can be carried out without too many dificulites".But her steps are vauge and useless, rarely haveing more than four steps. You can not learn how to paint wood grain or marble in four steps, although marble is presented here in three meaningless steps. So as a learning tool this book is useless.I would recommend instead Trompe L'Oeil Creating Decorative Illusions with Paint by Roberta Gordon-Smith or Painting Murals by Patricia Seligman, for new muralist. However, if you are a skilled artist versed in most forms of Trompe L'oeil, but are looking for classic examples of the technique, there are some lovely examples in this book.I'm keeping my copy as refrence material, which is how it should have been presented. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Something to Aspire to
This book (as well as the author's website and training classes) are for the more advanced artist or professional painter. Her work is absolutely beautiful, and achievable if you have some artistic talent.Consider this book after you've had some experience with stencils and general painting techniques. For beginners, try "Stenciling on a Grand Scale" by Linda Buckingham if you are looking for a less complex entry into the world of trompe l'oeil using stencils.5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely essential to helping me with my project!
I have a lot of creative energy and when I decided to try theorem stencilling, I bought several different books. However, this one book is the one that I constantly refer to to help me with my projects. It is clear and easy to follow with good instructions and pictures. If you are just starting out, this is the first book to buy.I also recommend her videos, which are the best on the market.

As with the previous Kanji de manga books, the third volume comes with clever drawings that will help you learn another essential 80 Kanji. The yellow cover is a bit much for me, but other than that, this book is great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners
Volume 3 deals with the last half of the Kanji needed in the Japanese Language Placement Test (JLPT) level 3.Each kanji is explained in on and kun yomi format, then stroke order is introduced. Most importantly, it presents each kanji in a short manga (comic) that introduces translations of idioms and frequently-seen-in-manga sound effects.Perfect for both the JLPT taker and those with some Japanese classes under their belt who want to pick up more words in Japanese that aren't in conventional books on the language.

I enjoyed this book even though it was much more advanced than my own skill level. I still plan on attempting some of these projects. I'm not going to let a little thing like skill stop me! LOL. 5-0 out of 5 stars "A must read for all parents and teachers!"
As an art teacher and parent, I found this book to be an amazing breath of fresh air. Not only did I love reading "Kids Play" but it is also revolutionary in the area of kids creativity. I will highly recommend it to all the parents and teachers I know.
