4-0 out of 5 stars Ultimately Satisfying
If you are even attempting to take on this project, you are likely a fan of Wright's work. It helps to know Wright's style and history. There are some flaws or omissions in the instructions (see ref to part #57 in other review) and one or two errors in the printing. Not for kids or the impatient. As you gain experience the task becomes easier as you are able to anticipate how things will come together. The finished product is very attractive and unique. An inexpensive project for cold, winter nights.

5-0 out of 5 stars Advanced modeling skills needed
Agree with other reviews.Emphasize that this is for an advanced modeler with modeling patience. Card stock is difficult when use to other material. Some of the referenced difficulties may be avoided by careful and thorough scoring. No idea as to the modeling accuracy, but the presentation looks real good.Especially when presented with the book, FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT'S ROBIE HOUSE.

4-0 out of 5 stars For the Mature Hobbyist
If you're a fan of the works of Wright, and have experience with detail oriented hobbies, you will likely find this a challenging but "do-able" project. For example, I've built plastic model kits for over thirty years, and it took me about three and a half months to complete the house, working on the standard hobbyist schedule (i.e. nights and weekends when I felt like it). Be aware that even with careful assembly, the finished product reflects the limitations of card stock - the long, thin pieces (notably, the wall around the front of the house) tend to become a bit wavy when folded and glued. Still, if you have the patience, and are comfortable with the investment of time involved, you'll end up with a nice replica of an architecturally significant home. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars good intro to paper scale modeling
I am an avid fan of paper airplane models. I especially like making scale models of real aircraft. After having made all sorts I found this book really nice because of the little history on each plane that the book gives. Though it would have been really good if the models were 3-D and if the plans for the models were pre-cut or perforated on the margins.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Title for Elementary School Kids
Some number of months ago, I gave my neighbor's kid some gliders preprinted by NASA as a PR gift (Got them at Oshkosh). It wasn't long before he was stopping me on the way back from work to ask if I had anymore planes! This title fit the bill (more planes). It was in color and precisely precut for little hands. I almost didn't gift it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Frustration and depression
Of the 17 reviews here, only three claim to have got the clock to work.I'm surprised there are any at all.I got as far as the escapement, but no amount of twiddling and adjusting would get it to work properly.Isaac Asimov in the Introduction recommends buying two copies, so that you can learn from your mistakes, but I don't see how that would help, since I already had cut and assembled as painstakingly as I am capable.I think the source of my problems may have been the gluing, which warped some of the parts. But I don't see any way of avoiding this:the parts have protrusions which prevent them being squashed between heavy books as they dry.Perhaps using a different glue?By the time I realized that it was never going to work, I had already spent so many hours working at it that the frustration led to depression.

4-0 out of 5 stars Educational if not functional
My husband and I just finished a New Year's weekend marathon of clockmaking.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, but could use improved instructions
This is not a beginners project!

5-0 out of 5 stars A childhood door to Wonder
My dad had this book at home and since we were living on the top floor I had endless opportunities to experiment and litter the neighbourhood with planes made from this book's design. An evergreen favourite is Sakoda's Origami Supersonic Jet.5-0 out of 5 stars An Inspirational Book
In a world of hi-technology, electronics, computers and robotics, it's amazing such a book is still in print. This book has been a great inspiration for me through the years as it has thought me alot, not only about folding paper airplanes. It teaches us all that though we may havesuper-computers today, it's the creativity that matters afterall, becausethe best idea could possibly be the simplest.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction for adults and children
This is a great introduction to paper airplanes for the novice. Themodels range in complexity from easy to difficult, providing a challenge for both kids and adults. Best of all is a brief comparison of each model with specific models of actual airplanes, and a brief primer on flight principles. Taken together, this book is a great lesson in aviation, as well as a lot of fun.

4-0 out of 5 stars Theory and detail in black and white.
The author, Edmond Hui is a former hang gliding instructor,so he brings his expertise to the reader in his book about flying paper airplanes. He points out that almost anyone canmake a paper airplane, but that the more you put into them, the better they will fly. I guess that's true about anything. Heprovides general instructions for crafting paper airplanes, and then takes the hobbyist to more advanced levels. Illustrations are in black and white but are quite detailed yet simple. He illustrates the concepts required for flight, and then provides the reader with more detailed projects. For anyone into paper airplanes, this book is a definite asset.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fairly Good.
I was hoping for more airplanes. They only have around 10 in the whole book.Half of the book is telling how planes fly and the best way to fly the planes in the book.If you are looking for a teaching aid then it's probably a good book.If you are just interested in folding paper airplanes, then it might not be the best book for you, but it does have a couple of planes that I had never seen before.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy enough for a child, tough enough for a Daddy.
As a father of a 9 and 7 year old, I knew it was just a matter of time before I would be called upon to make a paper plane. If you're like me, you'll need this book. The book gives step-by-step instructions which my children easily understood. It also gave theory, suggestions, and hints which helped me to make the more complicated planes. This is a good one for you or your kids. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars They all say they're the best, this one soars above them all
Every book on paper airplanes will start by saying their planes are the best. When I first bought this book in 1985, I judged the book by it's cover and believed it was going to contain "the ultimate paper airplane". That was almost 20 years ago now, and the cover has never let me down!4-0 out of 5 stars A Great buy for the smart kid in the family
If you hve a child who is a dreamer, into non-traditional fun, and loves to read, then this book is it.My uncle got it for me when I was 11 or 12, and I devoured it whole. The airplanes are fantastic to build, and they truely fly for a long time.Be warned though, the planes take about 20-30 minutes each to construct and you will need scissors, a paperclip (some models even require rubber cement), and lots of patience for great airplanes.I lost my copy in one of my many moves since being 12 (about 14 years ago) and I bought this book again. It gave me not just hours, but DAYS of fun as a kid.

5-0 out of 5 stars The plane that has funded several college degrees
If you have any interest in paper airplanes, beyond the simplicity of tossing one around for a few minutes on a slow day at work, this book is for you.Forget the flimsy loop-the-loop planes that you used to make as akid. This book will really show you how to make the *ultimate* paperairplane, with some interesting variations as well.Read more

Alan Rose's new book is art in itself. 5-0 out of 5 stars Not a typical pape airplane book
This is a great book for paper airplane enthusists who are looking for the next step. It also is reat for the oragami folder who wants to bring their creations to life. The designs range from simple to complex. Designs alsospan a number of different papers: letter, oragami square, and dollarbills. The drawings and directions are simple to follow with photos offinished flyers. As with all oragami, these creations require patience andattention to detail. This can be a great way to introduce a child toorigami while tapping into their love of paper airplanes. It teachespatience and is a great parent/child activity. Thought the book doesn'tcover the math and geometry of paper folding, you can use these exercisesto teach these concepts. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great, challenging origami planes
These are definitely more than 'normal' paper airplanes. You MUST know origami, and rather well, to make the majority of these planes - which is exactly why I love it! There are almost no other books out there like this. If you are up to the challenge, the planes look awesome (they look like REAL planes!) when made correctly and fly pretty well.
