5-0 out of 5 stars A Definite Collage Library Addition
As a collage artist, I found this book to be great for a beginner or a expert. The photos and precise instructions are excellent. The creative inspiration is remarkable. This a very nice "starter" the curious and a great reference for the practicing artist. This book really runs the gamut: paper collage, mixed-media w/found objects, fabric collage and digital. It's a an all-around sampler for someone trying to use collage as a creative outlet but not yet settled on the "how" of it.Check out Claudine Hellmuth as well.Enjoy . . . I sure did.

5-0 out of 5 stars A --muse zing book
this book got my muse back where it belongs, in my heart. not only are the techniques shared simple yet sophisticated, the examples bring out the "experimenter" in you and you can't help but want to grab your glue, brushes and colors and play again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic guide to all kinds of collage, inspirational
This is a fantastic book on creating a wide variety of great collage projects. It covers numerous collage techniques including using paper, mixed-media, fabric, decoupage, photomontage, computer art, found and three-dimensional objects. 1-0 out of 5 stars waste of paper
It doesn't even deserve one star. Not much here about paper engineering. The paper is cheesy, color reproduction is terrible, photographs uninteresting, with few exceptions. Almost all promotional material. I didn't even bother to read what little text there is. I have some wonderful books on paper engineering and will not insult them by including this in my library. It goes back tomorrow.

I am constantly buying craft books to add to my collection. This book is beautifully illustrated with patterns, ephemera, papers and instructions for completing the projects.
5-0 out of 5 stars Paper Projects
WONDERFUL book!Makes you mind run wild with ideas!
4-0 out of 5 stars A good, but not great, project book.
In order to photocopy the templates in this book for use, one must break the spine on the book and go page-by-page.If you cut the template pages out, you lose the text. They should have put all of the templates at the end of the book, so you could cut the important pages out and leave the text guidance intact. The lovely projects are flawed by the fact that the templates are all but useless. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Advanced origami book
The author of "The Complete Book of Origami" has become notorious for producing some of the most advanced origami models in the literature and this book contains a range of models which cannot be considered anything but difficult. Most of the pieces will not be possible from ordinary paper but will require either foil or very thin bank weight paper to work well.Wet folding would also be suitable for some of the models though the diagrams for the elephant sail into a patch of fog when making its behind!
2-0 out of 5 stars a weird and expensive book
at the first reading this one looks interesting but don't be fooled!5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Origami
This is a great book-but only if you are already familair with origami. You cannot simply look at the diagrams, as Lang has made the text descriptions almost more important than the visual descriptions. The cuckoo clock is by far one of the most advanced models I've ever seen in a book-but there are some easier models as well. Most people will be able to find SOMEthing to make, but I would only suggest this book for a NON-beginner. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Bright color photos throughout encourage the would-be artist
Quilling dates from Renaissance times and involves the art of rolling and shaping small strips of paper into delicate shapes. These then were used to make decorations for everything from furniture to sconces and boxes. Today they can also be embellishments for scrapbooks - and beginners receive instruction on how to put together winning results with a minimum of materials and experience. Bright color photos throughout encourage the would-be artist.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book CAN stand alone ...
I must congratulate Susan for authoring such a complete quilling book. This book is full of useful and practical designs for embellishing cards, tags, scrapbook pages, etc.Of the 40 plus projects, my favorites are the "sports themed" designs .. they are always hard to find.
3-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but cannot stand alone
This is a lovely book with some very nice patterns.(Other great books for cards are Anne Redman's and Diane Crane's.)HOWEVER, if you're going to use or give it as a gift, if not already familiar with quilling, make sure to also purchase something more basic, such as Malinda Johnson's treasure trove. This book is definitely not a standalone for beginners.By way of example, most quillers agree that folded roses require lots of practice -- but this book is the first I've ever seen WITHOUT EVEN DIAGRAMS.The average person wouldn't have any chance of mastering folded roses by that brief description alone! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas and Easy to use.
This book is just what I needed to inspire me to make Cookbook Scrapbooks for my daughters for Christmas!I love how it encourages me to scan old dish towels, aprons, pictures and incorporate them into my Cookbook!Such a special way to share recipes and family collectibles as well. Great ideas and easy to use!

3-0 out of 5 stars It's not a COOKBOOK w/scrapbooking materials
It may be just me, but I thought this was an actual cookbook that came w/scapbooking materials for my family recipes.I re-read Amazon's description after I'd received the book, and still I find their description not clear. This is strictly a "how to" of scrapbooking your recipes - no cookbook or scrapbooking materials included.BUT I rated this book based on it's purpose. If you're already into scrapbooking, you're probably able to come up w/your own ideas w/out the help of this book - there isn't anything spectacular.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Source of Inspiration
Most of the pages she illustrates are the larger 12x12" size, but the author does give some examples of 5.5x7.25" and 8.5x11" pages, too. The projects are described step-by-step very clearly, and the photos of the pages are clear and bright. Overall, I found this to be a neat book with some really clever ideas. There are things I personally would not do (like use brads and buttons and stuff making the pages bulky and awkward), and I think she's wrong to use original photos and recipes, but that's my opinion. I really loved the idea of using vintage textiles as background art and clip art. It's definitely worth a look! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars For personal use only
Mr. Rice does a pretty good job describing technique. For those of you who are looking for a hobby and a way to wow the relatives with homemade Christmas gifts - this is a good book for you.
5-0 out of 5 stars Like having a personal instructor!
The next best thing to having someone by your side teaching you the art of decoupage is Mr. Rice's book. It's highly illustrated & the step-by-step directions on how to decoupage glass and other objects are excellent. He leaves no stone unturned and even points out a mistake in a decoupaged table, making me feel that I'm not the only one making errors. Mr. Rice is funny, creative, and I'd like to see instructions on making purses.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to supplement lively image with equally-lively words, making the most of format options
Scrapbooking titles abound and provide inspiration for any who would record memories and experiences in an engaging manner - but most focus on the craft of pictures and image arrangement. WHAT ABOUT THE WORDS? CREATIVE JOURNALING FOR SCRAPBOOKERS goes a step beyond, focusing on word-images and how they are presented in the course of a scrapbooking project. From collages and lists to documenting silly behaviors or patterns, WHAT ABOUT THE WORDS shows how to supplement lively image with equally-lively words, making the most of format options.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent to start out with!
Really one of my favorite books (I'm a beginner) - this one steps you through both in words and pictures so you can follow along. It has different types of surfaces and tips for dealing with the differnt situations.Samples are really good but not intimidating.

2-0 out of 5 stars Somewhat helpful, but dissappointing
As a complete beginner, I was hoping for the most basic of basics but this book seem to include projects I personally would not consider for beginners.I wanted your basic wood jewerly box, simple designs, etc.to start with but that wasn't the case. One review I read before purchasing this book indicated that the author covered the topic of copyright infringment, but I saw barely any mention of that.I now have a few completed projects I am in doubt about.I think this topic should have been covered more thououghly as I don't think people want to be sued. Some of the directions seemed incomplete.Example, one project for a glass vase showed the designs placed on the inside.Personally, I thought that sounded wrong.I would have thought the designs would be placed on the outside to be kept away from more water exposure but no explanation was given as to why the designs were placed on the inside.I also found the information about sealing surfaces incomplete. There is incomplete/barely/or none on surfaces such as plastic, fabric, paper. As a beginner, I would like to know how to prepare any surface. This book seemed more for an intermediate decoupage artist.

5-0 out of 5 stars All You need to know to get started
Being new to the art of Decoupage, I needed a sourcebook that explained the craft step by step. This book walked me through with color images, instructions, and supply lists for each method. There were also a varietyof techniques, some of which I had not been aware of. Got my creativewheels turning. Should keep me busy for awhile.A good starting point foranyone! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Yaaay! I am NOT alone!
It is refreshing to look at the reviews and find that others have had the same frustrations with this book as I have. Yes, I agree the color photographs are absolutely beautiful and inspiring. They sure suck you in and are a powerful tool to entice you into buying the book. The artist is wonderfully creative with her use of the pentagon, hexigon and out-of-the-mainstreem starting shapes which makes this book so unique.
2-0 out of 5 stars Me no likey
Well, I shouldve done more research on this book, but I don't like it because it requires too many other things to be used other than oragami paper. And sometimes the images of the pictures didnt seem very accurate, so i got confused a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Easy, but worth the challenge!
I did not have much experience with paper folding, so the designs in this book are quite a challenge. Most diagrams are easy to figure out but there are several which had steps missing from them, but in general they are easy to understand, though by no means easy to fold, since this book seems like its targeted at the more experienced people intersted in origami. Of the designs that I managed to make, they did come out exactly as they looked in the book, and the unique concept of using not square pieces of paper but pentagons, hexagons and octagons, is really an eye opener. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Creative ideas which will thrill any beginner and intermediate quiller
The author has done an incredible job here in displaying and describing basic quilling techniques.Highlights include:
3-0 out of 5 stars Would I buy this book again?
The short answer is no, if I had seen the book in the store, I would have put it back on the shelf, not because its a 'bad buy', but more because it didn't cover what I use quilling for and thats card making. There are some lovely projects to do, but unless you are well experienced in the art of quilling they are not for the beginner.Having said that, I would say that I really enjoyed the first section of the book about how to quill .

5-0 out of 5 stars perfect book for beginners
This book assumes you know nothing about hand making paper. It explains each step and gives you the terminology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lives up to its title
This book contains probably all the technical information you will need to make your own paper from any number of materials -- whether you are starting by recycling paper from your waste bin, or going out into the wild and harvesting the plants yourself. Diagrams are included for most equipment, from simple deckles to elaborate vacuum presses. Included also are the most extensive instructions I've ever seen on how to do large-scale casting, via armature and otherwise. If you are seriously interested in papermaking, you cannot go wrong with this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars This IS the ultimate guide

5-0 out of 5 stars Tons of fun! Great book for a rainy day.
This is probably one of the greatest books I ever got as a gift growing up as a child. There are 40 different airplane instructions and 10 toy instructions. The airplanes truly are the highlight of this book. There are so many great airplanes and anyone (child or adult) could spend hours folding different airplanes and flying them through the air!
4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Fun
I never knew paper airplanes could fly so well.Right from the start you'll be able to build simple planes that fly straight and far.The short paragraphs about each plane, in which the author sometimes explains how he discovered the design of the plane, are fun to read. The flying tips included with some designs are helpful. The only problem with the book, and the reason I didn't give it five stars, is that the diagrams and instructions for some designs are confusing. For example, I can't build the last plane even after spending about an hour and several sheets of paper on it.It would be really helpful to have actual photographs of some of the more complicated planes at certain steps in the building process.Regardless, for me the book was worth it after I built plane number one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun book, be a kid and have some fun
This is a great book on paper airplanes and some origami paper toys.It is mostly about airplanes and there is airplane after airplane on page after page.No matter what you want your airplane to do, glide for long distance, do tricks or just plain look cool, it is in this book.Unlike some other books on this subject it does not have any premarked papers secured to the inside of the book that you can rip out and fold.On the other hand, these planes use ordinary paper and have such good illustrations that you can make them without any premarked patterns on the paper.I love the book.I've folded most of the planes and flew them.It makes me a popular person at children get togethers and allows me to be a child again once in a while myself.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Configure the Center Just How You Need It
I purchased the whole series. At times different forms call for my attention and the additional selection is definitely appreciated. The variety is quite good. They range from simpler to complex, with open spaces which leave room for my own variations. The author's designs seem to create a sacred space in which the individual's own light can shine, even if all they want to do is simply "color" a bit.I would expect this flexibility to make them accessible to people with widely varying skills: children, many disabled persons, the elderly, the imaginative and the gifted artist, as well and most of us who are somewhere in between.Yet they are undemanding so that no one need miss out on the calm center and its healing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone's Mandala Coloring Book Series
Author, artist, transpersonal psychotherapist and business person alldescribe what Monique Mandali is, but do not tell you who she is. I've beenprivileged to meet Monique and I know that she is a seeker traveling herpath. Her walking stick is her love for all, especially children. Ms.Mandali offers a series of four coloring books for children and adults. There are three different delights in the original Everyone's MandalaColoring Book series, each consisting of 22 designs. While the originalthree books in the series contain designs by the author, the latest (andperhaps greatest) has 25 peace mandalas from children all around the world. The Peace Mandala Coloring Book is very special because the mandalas aredesigned by children unencumbered by the pressure of adult living. Further, they bring a variety of spiritual as well as geographical cultures to bear.5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully centering activity and a great gift!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice pictures but lacks detail
Lots of inspirational pictures by the author and other artists, but there is little description of how some of the more interesting techniques were done, like accordian board books and other binding techniques. Found it overall a little disappointing, but at least it wasn't too expensive. Also I wish there was less use of scrapbooking supplies and more use of original background techniques or art papers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shop till you drop
This is one of the worst books on bookbinding it has been my misfortune to purchase. It lacks detailed information on techniquesand substitutes what is generally a "go out and buy" attitude. It encourages the purchase of materials such as premade scrapbooking items rather than giving ideas for an individual to make and incorporate in the creative act.
4-0 out of 5 stars A little confusing for a beginner
Overall, I think that this book has a lot of information, great photos of lots of examples. The only reason I gave it four stars was that I think it could be better organized. It jumps around a bit and does not explain how some of the books are constructed. That may be simplistic for non-beginners, but this seems to be a beginning book! I found myself enjoying the pictures of the books, but wondering how some of them were made with rings, etc. This book is actually a very good value, but I wish there had been some photos of a book in progress, instead of jumping right in to finished pages! Overall, I am glad that I bought it, even though the instuctions are pretty general. ... Read more
