2-0 out of 5 stars too complex for beginners
I'm new to scrapbooking so got this book for ideas. There were few interesting ideas but...
3-0 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone
I like scrapbooking but am not interested in this book.I bought based on the descriptions and reviews.Very disappointed in that most of the pages, if not all, have something too thick on them.I like my pages to lay flat and not bulk up my albums.Cute ideas for framing or displays... but a lot of the best parts don't lay flat enough for me and my scrapbook albums.Lots of techniques are shown, but many are also too time-consuming or too involved or, as other said, require too many different materials/tools (thus cost too much) for me.I want cute and quick.Precious yet balanced with my time and effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scrapbook borders corners & Titles
This is a great book for scrapbooking.I have several scrapbooks, and this book is my favorite. The pages are so nicely done, and each page comes with directions, and a supply list of materials you will need to complete the project. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars inspirational and has good ideas
This book is a great buy.The ideas are interesting and inspirational and will work great for both card making and scrapbooking. However, you do need a lot of supplies to complete the projects. The pictures are excellant, but no instruction on how to actually create and complete the tags.Would recommend this book as an addition to your craft book library. Will add another dimension to your paper crafts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Erikia comes through again
Erikia Ghumm is a scrapbooking goddess!Maybe not to everyone, but if you lean a little more toward artistic scrapping, you'll like her books and her look. She really stretches the imagination and uses all sorts of nifty things to create and embellish tags. Some things you may never have heard of before (like cyanotypes) unless you earned an MFA.(Beats me, I was a pysch major and ended up with a MS in science.) But her tags are very hip (not all the tags are hers- she has some other artists working with/for her in this volume). Maybe the tags are TOO hip.The only reason I'm giving this a 4 and not a 5 is that the style is narrow (read "altered" "collage" "shabby chic").This may (or may not) be a style that extinguishes itself as rapidly as so many other scrapbooking styles do.Time will tell, as this is a new book.Let's see how the book looks in ten years, or in the mercurial world of scrapbooking, two months... just joking..

3-0 out of 5 stars Ecclectic, Busy, Altered Image Type Tags
This book reminded me of some of the Altered images books I have been reading recently. Many of these tags are just full of dimensional add-ons that often seemed "too much." When publishing newletters, one of the things you first learn is not to have 10 different fonts with various styles. It is simplier and more pleasing to the eye to narrow it down to a couple or so. Even though this is a different medium, I felt like this is something that would have been useful in this book. It just seemed like most of the tags and pages had too much "different" stuff going on and my eye could not seem to settle on what was supposed to be the focus of the page/tag.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful but not exceptional
I recently bought this book and was surprised at the pages included. Overall, it has several very different layouts and some neat ideas for special topic pages (champagne bridal shower, leaving limo cutout). But, the pages were all sent in by "real people," so they do not at all have the polished look of the "memory masters" who usually compile Memory Makers books. I would say the level is intermediate, with a huge lack of advanced techniques. Antiquing, dry embossing, embossing with powders and a heat tool, embellishments, tags, vellum, use of computers, paint, and fabrics are not included at all. These are pretty standard in today's scrapbooking trends. The examples use stickers a lot, matted pictures, and cut-outs. There are some neat ideas, quilling in particular, and I really like the heritage pages. Because the pages were sent in, any specialty techniques are sparce and only given a few pages as examples. I agree this book is outdated overall, but is still a great place for a jump-start.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very beautiful...
It is a very beautiful book.I have relatives who were married last year and we have tons of pictures to scrapbook.I was out of ideas, because I feel they have to be so perfect and elegant. This gave me plenty more. Thanks!

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't judge a book by its cover...
I bought this off of Amazon without getting a chance to actually look inside of it first, so I was going by 1) other reviews, 2) the description and 3) the cover. After looking over all of these, it sounded like the book might have some interesting, fresh, "funky" ideas for gift books. So I ordered it. When I got it, though, I was quite disappointed. It DOES have some fresh ideas... *some*. There is one chapter that contains these, but most of the book consists of what I think to be rather typical scrapbooking. Nothing wrong with that, if that's your thing... but it isn't mine, and everything I saw really led me to expect something more interesting. I guess I should have expected a typical scrapbook book, since it is from Memory Makers. I have a few issues of their magazine, and the items featured in that are a lot more interesting that most of what I saw in this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Colorful & Idea Filled
The book shows a good variety of theme and specialty scrapbooks suitable for gift giving.Techniques include mini-albums, flip calendars, and other novel ways to document an event or honor an individual.Being new to scrapbooking, some of the instructions were too brief for me and didn't always clarify terms or show detailed enough examples.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for those who prefer to give personal gifts
There is nothing more appreciated than a gift from the heart, and making a keepsake scrapbook for a family member, friend, or really just about anyone who touches your life is a gift that will be treasured.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful & Creative Ideas
I've never understood why folks will shell out the big bucks for what they could more or less do on their home printer -- pretty, but bland. This book has beautiful, personal invitations ranging from the offbeat to the traditional (my favorite is the frog idea). Making invitations yourself doesn't mean sacrificing style or tradition, and this book is an excellent starting point.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice
It was ok. Some nice ideas but not too many. Better than many others I have bought

5-0 out of 5 stars I have FINALLY found invitations I love
I have been looking at invitations, and haven't found anything that is quite right. Not to mention everything is very pricey. I would much rather cut the price of the invitations and spend the money saved there on other wedding expenses. I have been looking at kits. I never really found anything that suited us. They were plain and not very origional. So I have been looking online for ideas and I saw this book. I love it! It has wonderful ideas, easy directions, and great pictures. We decided to take one of the invitations and change it a little to better fit us and what we are looking for. It really is wonderful because you don't have to follow the directions exactly, you can change the color/pattern, or just ad your own special touch! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A piece of History - not to be missed
This is a coloring book with full-page drawings of women's vaginas. Of course the artistry is suberb.
5-0 out of 5 stars I'monly giving this 5 stars because of it's title...
Can you feminazi's out there please stop beig such a bunch of c*^&s?I mean seriously, who wants to color in a bunch of puntang? No one wants to see that.Would you buy a coloring book of my testicles, because that's just about what this book is.Heck, I'd probably title it something like, "You'll have a ball (or two) with this coloring book!"Whoever wrote this needs to think of a better idea, because this one is just a little too fishy.

2-0 out of 5 stars What exactly are these things we're coloring?
I admire the spirit behind this book. However, many of the genitals in this book don't look like genitals at all, but more like abstract ... things. I would appreciate some accuracy in a book like this, because it is meant to be educational. Corinne should have left the Picasso images to Picasso. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Lacking in content, but some inspiring photos.
As an experienced bookmaker, I was anxious to try some of the projects in this book. BE VERY CAUTIOUS!I found many errors in measurments in this book, which can cost you valuable paper and time! This book can be very vague about what size your papers should be and exactly how much of it you need.If you simply rely on what the author says, you may find yourself frustrated with a project that didn't work out.5-0 out of 5 stars A direct, to-the-point, "user friendly" instructional guide
The collaborative effort of self-employed book artist Mary McCarthy and educator/writer Philip Manna, Making Books By Hand: A Step-By-Step Guide is a direct, to-the-point, "user friendly" instructional guide to the art and craft of creating beautiful and useful scrapbooks, photo albums, diaries, blank books, and more. Full-color photographs illustrate each part of the process of crafting accordion art books, photo albums, box books, scrolls, etc. Making Books By Hand is commended as being first-rate guidebook for those interested in cultivating their skill in a unique and satisfying hobby, or who want to make exceptional and memorable gifts for friends and loved ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars 1960s "Adult Kids re-Collecting Our Childhood" Must Have!
I hardly ever write a review here, but I ordered this book for myself for Christmas 2005 and have been looking at it probably weekly since then.As a 43 year old child of 1962 and collector of everything 1950s, 60s, and 70s, this book brought SUCH a smile to my face when I initially flipped through it and has continued to bring joy.For those of us who truly relish images/graphics/design styles from our past -- feed your brain with THIS book and feel your dopamine and serotonin levels spill all over themselves as you take that trip down memory lane into Christmases, birthdays, and baby/bridal showers past! Then, buy a copy for all of your retro type friends!

5-0 out of 5 stars wow!
this book is amazing! i don't know how they found all these incredible patterns!the book is just jam packed with those fun wrapping papers from the 60's.a great gift for any pop-arty design fan!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Groovy Gift - Gotta Get this Book!
This book will bring back so many memories. If you're 40 something, you'll want a copy for yourself, one for your parents and more for your 40-something friends. It's a scrapbook of the groovy generation and the perfect gift for the person who thinks he has everything! All Wrapped Up is a gorgeous book.My kids loved looking through it.It sparked a lot of conversation about what it was like to live in the 1960's.

2-0 out of 5 stars good but not necessarily for the beginner
This is a good book for inspiration of ideas, however, it's not a step by step guide.Like just about every book that I've seen so far on paper sculpture, they skip crucial steps which will lose the layperson.Even I had to reread the book serveral times only to goabout it on my own.The authors would do better to give a more thoruogh explanation of a work than fill the book with artist showcases.I am sick of picking up coffee table books.I want a book that gives time on paper quality and tools, and techniques first and foremost.

3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, but not for beginners
A remarkable book showing what can be accomplished in paper sculpture, but definetly not for beginners. It shows some step-by-step projects, but not really the technique used.Good for inspiration, but it assumes that you already know what you are doing.Good reference when you are up and running.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
I consider myself an intermediate since I started with Clive Stevens' Fun with Paper Sculpture--I didn't really learn much more than I already knew. However, this book is suitable for anyone from a rank beginner to polished professional. I picked up some new techniques and discovered new types of paper and paints to use in my work. I've gotten the most use from the artist galleries beacuse they spur my own creativity to no end! I never tire of looking at the gorgeous pieces and find myself reading this book from cover to cover every now and then.Read more
