Good ideas
I found this book to be quite helpful in organizing my sewing room.I have used two of the ideas already & as soon as I can afford it, plan to buy shelving to put along one wall.Right now I have two storage units which take up too much room.One idea:To organize all fabrics by color and to fold them twice so that they lay flat.That alone saved me tons of space.At first I was reluctant to separate my fat qtr sets but feel that space saved was worth it.Another idea I put to use is to show the yardage on each fabric.I do this for all fabrics except for fat qtrs and 1/8ths.
Very useful!
Although at the moment I do not have a room or a corner that I can devote totally to my quilting space, I found this book to be very inspiring.The chapter on ergonomics, proper lighting, and UV protection for fabrics alone was worth the purchase price!I have learned the correct heights for my cutting, sewing, and ironing activities to avoid back and neck strain.The book also offers the most efficient dimensions for ironing surfaces, cutting boards, and shelf depth.Room dimensions are provided, which I can now compare to the size of my spare room to see if it would be possible to convert it someday.I like the author's suggestions for converting base cabinets or buffets into workable spaces.

Wide variety of unique quilting ideas
I love this book!The patterns are simple, but the results are really fabulous.These are the types of things that you'd find a trendy Manhattan boutique.I made "Steve" the cat for my daughter for Christmas last year, and she's crazy about him.The scarves are elegant, and each one is a work of art, depending on the fabrics one chooses.And Denyse even includes a pattern for one of her signature quilts.This is a great book to show people that quilting doesn't have to be country-craftish.It can be extremely stylish and hip.

Pretty to look at, but disappointing if you want a book about quilts
After looking at Denyse Schmidt's website, I was very excited to purchase her book and start making unique quilts of my own!While her instructions in "Denyse Schmidt Quilts" are very clear, and there are numerous helpful hints, only 1/4 of the book addresses actual quilts. For those who are interested in oven mitts, quilted scarves, and small-scale projects, this is a delightful and pretty book to choose. However, for those (like myself) who are looking for a book dedicated to quilts (and not patchwork projects) you would be better served checking out other sources. I purchased the Modern Quilt Workshop in addition to Denyse Schmidt Quilts and would highly recommend it as an alternative

Don't Bother
The idea for this one is simply to layout your nine-patch around your favorite large scale fabric.It was a waste of money in my opinion.Buy it used if you must.

A keeper!
My private stash is loaded with large-scale fabrics. I just can't seem to resist buying stunning African, Asian, Hawaiian, seasonal, juvenile, and floral fabrics. I loved them when I bought them and abhor the thought of cutting them into small pieces.

Kaleidoscope quilts are one of the show-off pieces of a quilter's repertoire. They're judged not only on how perfectly the pieces are sewn to a point in the middle, but also on the cutting: if each piece isn't cut from exactly the same part of the pattern on the fabric, the effect is spoiled. The traditional way of making kaleidoscope blocks involves a special window template, much exaggerated care in cutting--and too often, much wasted fabric. Awesome Kim Diehl Simple Traditions!
This is an amazing sequal to Kim's Simple Blessings book!I have made several quilts from the earlier book and I am in the process of doing a few from this new book.The photos are top notch and the instructions are very easy to follow.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who quilts.All levels of quilting experience are included in Kim's books which makes them a must for a quilter's library!

Like scrap quilts and applique? Then this should be in your library.
Many books of quilt patterns have one particular "mood," and the suitability of the book for your needs depends less on the quality of instruction than on the need of the reader. Kim Diehl's Simple Traditions is a good example. If you like to sew quilts with a lot of applique, in traditional old-fashioned patterns, using primarily scraps -- then you're going to *love* her book. If not... well, this one isn't for you.

A beautiful book with great pictures of ideas for quilts. So, many wonderful color combinations. I enjoy working with bright colors, stripes, dots anything to sew a bright appealing quilt. Good information and easy to follow ideas. I'll use this book frequently.

I had hoped for better
The content fits the title, "an idea book" but, be careful that this is what you want or need.
Quite good but the description is misleading
I found this book to be good, but I was disappointed with the "Patterns" which consisted of little tiny depictions of the shape of the project. I bought the book specifically to get patterns and, while the book is very good, I was disappointed that the patterns we basically useless for someone new to mosaics.

After a few pages of "How To" basics, the remaining pages are mostly filled with small isolated images documented in clever "artsy" dialect. Fabulous results
I did Laurens windmill as a first time quilter and had fabulous results. I bought the kit and couldn't believe that it would turn out as well as it did. I will be ordering another kit soon and will let you know how that turned out as well. It took all of 4 hours to have the top completed. I really am impressed with the ease of the instructions and hte helpful charts. I love the technique and final designs
I keep looking at this book and have a hard time deciding which quilt to make.I currently made Taylor's board and it came out beautiful.I also have the rail fence started.Directions are easy to follow and very welldone. The descriptions of the color values helped me. I am very interestedin Deanna's second book, but I need more time with her first on before Imove on. ... Read more

Judy NEVER disappoints her audience!
This book is yet another book to be added to your 'must have' quilting books. Like many of her other books, this one is destined to become a classic.Get it whether you're are just starting to quilts, or even if you're a pro.This one has it all!

A Wonderful New Quilting Book
I don't buy many quilting books anymore because they seem so repetitive in their information and patterns."Scraps" is definitely one worth buying.The quilts themselves are beautiful, and Judy Martin is one of the best at writing instructions.Most of the instructions are given by illustration, rather than having to wade through cumbersome wording.Very clear and easy-to-follow.The blocks themselves are not that complicated, but her use of color and placement makes the finished product look spectacular.She gives directions for template and rotary cutting. If you like traditional (not "artsy") quilts, with no applique (a big + for me!), you'll love this new book.

Judy Martin is the Queen of quilters.
I highly recommend this book to every level of quilter.

Great Book!
I admit that when I first ordered this book, I didn't think that I would really be interested in the recipes. I was so wrong, the cookie recipes are really wonderful! I think that both chocolate and quilts are a comfort in my life.:) Ths book is just okay
First of all, I do not care for any of the cookie recipes in this book. I haven't made them all, but the ones I have tried were simply too rich - and yes, there is such a thing, at least to some tastes! Also, many of the recipes call for "unusual" ingredients or equipment such as cinnamon chips or a muffin-top pan, and these things may not be readily available to those who live in small towns or outside the US. Love it!
I am a beginning quilter, and this book has projects that I can do easily, plus others that will challenge my abilities, but also teach me new skills (such as set-in seams).I also appreciate how Judy Martin gives yardage in length and in fat quarters.Read more
