A Breakthrough!
This book is the coolest, funniest combo of art and writing advice and techniques. It shows you how to express your personality or the personality of the people and places around you, with mixed media art and words. There are different styles of art and writing shown, so you can see how to make a fast art journal page that really captures your mood in an easy, simple way, or you can spend more time on, like, a self portrait that uses more difficult steps for the art. I like that there are lots of ways shown to do art journaling, with paint, collage, pictures, just writing, combining things, etc. The chapters build on eachother, so as you do what is in each one, you get better and better at the writing and art, and you have all these ideas for journaling about your life and looking at life differently. Best on the Market
This is far and above the best book I've encountered for New Scrappers.Instead of just showing layouts, explanations are there to show why a layout works, how to do it and simplifies the mystique behind all the necessary tools and not so necessary tools.I wish I had bought this book before spending money on stuff I didn't really need.You won't regret this purchase if you are a beginner and it also makes a great gift for someone thinking about scrapping.Guaranteed to rev your creativity.

Great information for the beginner
If you are new or fairly new to scrapbooking, this book will help you with organization, picture taking, details about products you will need and conservation and storage.The book also includes stencils and templates which can be removed and used on photos and cardstock.The spiral binding is an added plus because the book lays flat when open. Well worth the purchase price.

So much more than Iexpected!

Clean and Simple Scrapbooking - the sequel
I found this book very helpful. Filled with many tips and ideas. I just loved this book and have read it from cover to cover and I am ready to read it again. Its a book that all scrapbookers should have.

This is the second book of the series and they are both GREAT!, I do recomend start with the first one, full of technique and design ideas!

Simply A Must Have
Any scrapbooker, any style, any budget, this is required reading. It can pretty well wipe your bookshelf of any other scrapping reference books - with the obvious exception of Clean and Simple Scrapbooking part one. Cathy Zielske is the master of her art. Her ability to share her techniques with her readers is unsurpassed. Oh my goodness, this is all I need for lessons in scrapbooking!!!
I received this book yesterday and since the moment of opening the package, I've not put it down! This book is a book for scrapbooking dummies and novices like myself as well as for the pros I aim to emulate. It is a comprehensive and BEAUTIFULLY illustrated book covering A - Z of scrapbooking. The hundreds of varieties of techniques, needed supplies, how-to instructions and layouts for ideas cover the entire gamut of this enjoyable hobby. Buy this book and you've made your money back immediately! I have a subscription to another scrapbooking magazine, but compared to this book, my subscription will only be for entertainment.

I love this book, because it explained the basics of the scrapbooking art. I only have 3 weeks into this hobby and the book helped me a lot with the terms and the pictures helped me to visualize the it.

A Worthwhile Addition to your Scrapbook Bookshelf
I don't go in for buying every design book ever published. Buy a couple of the best and the rest are pretty much redundant.This is one of the best.Required scrapper reading: the Zielske books, a Becky Higgins or two, and both of Ali's 'designer's eye' books. That way you've got inside tips and techniques from the girls leading their field. The blueprints in this book are fantastically liftable.

i'm no writer so this will be short, but i found this book helpful and i go to it for referance often for basic sketch design.

best scrapbooker ever
I absolutely love this book, and Ali Edwards! She's got the best style among them -- clean and simple with a lot of heart. Her background as a graphic designer is evident in most of her layouts. All in all, I really recommend you get this book, if not for scraplifting purposes, for a lesson or two on basic graphic design principles. You don't have to be a scrapbooker (I'm not, I'm just a regular college student who loves looking at layouts too much) to appreciate this book. Best Scrapbook Book Ever!
This was the best book I have read about scrapbooking yet, and I have read A LOT of them!Stacy Julian hit on several of the areas that I "stress" over, and made me realize that I don't need to stress!
Absolutely adore this book!
I picked up this book and could NOT put it down. I am a self-confessed scrap-a-holic and also am a big fan of Simple Scrapbooks magazine. I had thought about purchasing this book for a little while, and I am now so glad that I did. Stacy Julian's passion for scrapbooking is completely contagious, and immediately made me want to get to it. The fun, inspiring quotes and pages in this book are wonderful. The interactive pockets and tags in the back of the book for you to complete later were a wonderful project that really made me see, "The big picture!" I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to scrapbook, who needs a good (if not GREAT!) system to putting pages into their albums (hers is magnificent!) and who would love some extra motivation and inspiration in their hobby. It is my life goal to document our life and the small and precious moments of my family. Buy this book, you will not be disappointed!

Innovative Ideas
I found the various different ways of creating sketchbook/journals exhibited in this book very helpful in offering my students creative options to bookmaking.

Good for Inspiration
I bought the book because I liked the ideas it gave me for my own altered book projects. I do wish there were more pictures explaining the processes, but the verbal instructions are very detailed. Not really good for those who learn by "seeing".

Creative Sketches, Vol 2
The magazine was in perfect condition.It is a great help in scrapbooking layouts.Anyone clearly "into" scrapbooking should get this magazine.
GET THIS BOOK!
I picked up this idea book because I like Becky Higgins' monthly sketch in Creating Keepsakes Magazine. WOW! what a great helper. She has such a great eye for design. This helped me make use of some of my neglected embellishments because I could concentrate more on picking paper and embellishments that working on the layout. More time for the real FUN part of scrapbooking. The book is laid out in chapters by # of pictures. Most of the layouts are 2 page layouts, but you can easily adapt any of the layouts to your needs. Becky even gives you tips on how to adapt the layout for yourself! This is one of those scrapper's essentials. You will NOT be disappointed with this book.

Great entree into the world of journaling and papercrafts
I've always kept a written journal, but never thought of being creative with them until I saw this book on display at a bookstore.I've sinced thumbed through many other similar books (including Perrella's) and Deihn's are more instructive and interesting.I bought this book before I discovered her other one (specifically for Journaling); I'd recommend the latter if you don't do scrapbooks.
Delightful book that makes this art form more approachable
I recently discovered this book at my local library, and have to say that I was amazed by how wonderful it is!Many other books on this topic have been overwhelming to me, showcasing very beautiful books that seemed well beyond my skills.However, this book actually made me feel like I can actually do this myself, rather than just look at others' works.It does a great job covering the basics, including what supplies you can use, how to do basic book modifications, and examples of layouts and the purposes of creating such a journal.The instructions on preparing a book and sample pages are really well done, described in very clear terms with plenty of photos to illustrate each step.I also really enjoyed the various historical pieces throughout the book, to give some idea of how these books have developed over time.I would highly recommend this book, and have to disagree with the review who claimed this book is boring.It isn't!Some of the pieces shown are more simplistic (less cluttered!) than those in other books, but it is a valuable resource for anyone wanting to create an art journal or altered book.

Inspiration for a sometime artist
I ordered this book in preparation for a trip to Alaska.I have always tried to keep travel journals, but since this waa a special trip, I wanted to do a special journal.I used sponging, stencilling, and watercolor techniques on my pages before I left (as suggested by the author) so I always had a colorful page for my journaling. The photos and explanations were very clear and it was fun to do a few pages each night in preparing for the trip. Some pages were left blank and I even tried my hand at sketching again while on the trip.I found that the Uniball waterproof pens worked very well for writing and sketching.I saved many pieces of souvenir folders, leaves, cocktail picks, etc. to add to my finished journal.The trip was so fabulous and exhausting I will have to complete my journal now that I am home.It will be a great accompanying volume to my photo album. ... Creative Sketches for Scrapbooking
If there is one book you ever buy for scrapbooking, this is the book. It is nothing short of incredible. It is organized by the number of photos that you would like to group and then it helps you arrange them.It works alot with color and paper designs. It introduces you to "sketching" your ideas so you can have a better plan before you sit down at a crop.

A 'must' for any actively involved in producing different scrapbooks
Plenty of books have hit the market covering all aspects of scrapbooking, the new popular hobby of building a family memory book - but Susan Pickering Rothamel's Encyclopedia Of Scrapbooking Tools & Techniques is about the only reference you really need if you're an avid scrapbook maker. All tools and techniques are described here, from acid migration and its problems to handling bubbling and edging problems with decoupage, understanding how journaling works, and handling photos and paper. A 'must' for any actively involved in producing different scrapbooks.

Great for New Digital Scrappers

I had no idea where to start with scrapbooking.I had seen those scrapbooking magazines with very elaborate pages, but that seemed too advanced, and I really wanted to begin with something simple.This book was exactly what I needed.It takes you through the basics, tells you what supplies you will need, and gives examples.It's kind of like one of those "Dummies" books--it assumes you know basically nothing beyond what glue, scissors and paper are, so it starts right from square one.
Helpful Worksheets and Techniques
She gives very detailed instructions for sorting your photos and includes a worksheet to help with this.Good layout is explained and tips given for finding ideas for your scrapbook pages.The reader learns how to use scrapbooking tools like shape cutters and paper trimmers, how to mat, how to crop silhouettes and a variety of techniques.
Need a jumpstart to get started scrapbooking?
I found this book very helpful.As a beginning scrapper, many of the magazines and idea books are overwhelming.The layouts in those books and magazines look so professional, and are time-intensive and costly to make.I really appreciated this book, in which Michele tells you what you need to know to get started, and helps you along the way.Read more

a little dated
This book may have been imaginative for it's time, but had I seen this book in a store I never would have purchased it.I felt the layouts were dated and lacked that POP we are looking for.Some of the technique suggestions were good, but it was an overall disappointment.

Caution
I personally put a lot of stock in the reviews when deciding to buy a book online.The contents page sounded great, the reviews were pretty good, but if I had SEEN this book there is no way I would have purchased it.
Beautiful, but...
The lay-outs in this book are beautiful, but the authers idea of beginner is way off the mark.If you have already spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on scrapbooking supplies, this is a great book for you, but she is using techniques in this book that beginners wouldn't even have a clue about.The supplies that are suggested would be unknown to a beginner, and quite frankly, some intermediates also.If you are a seasoned veteran at scrapbooking, this is the book for you, but if you are a seasoned veteran, you probably already know all the tips and techniques in this book.I found this a much better picture book than reference book. ... Kick-Started My Scrapbooking
I wanted to begin scrapping with a chronicle of our family vacation in a few weeks. But I didn't want to take a class. So, I bought this book, which is a wonderful compilation of articles from Simple Scrapbooks.

This book has great ideas and suggestions for organizing scrapbook work areas.It has great pictures which really help to visualize how you want your area to function.It has money saving ideas for workspaces on a budget.It has many links to stores and websites to purchase products.They're not trying to sell you on one particular product - they suggest many types and different kinds of products for whatever your needs may be.Great book!It really helped me to get all my scrapbooking supplies organized!I'd definitely recommend it to all scrappers!

This book had wonderful pictures and great resources in it....the thing I found most helpful was the manufacturers, it listed the products you could use and where to find them... other than that, there was nothing more in this book that you couldn't find on the internet at no cost..... ...
