4-0 out of 5 stars Another great buy
As always with these kinds of books - another great read and guide for scrapbookers!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great book from Memory Makers
This is a fabulous book. Great ideas and detailed instructions. It can be challenging and time consuming but the results are well worth the time and effort. I'd say this book is for those who want some new and fresh ideas and methods to their work. I highly recommnend this book to beginners and seasoned scrapbookers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, one of the best and most innovative books on scrapbooking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Greatideas to get your creative juices flowing
I got this book from the library prior to commiting to buying it. After ordering 8 books from Amazon this one wasn't one of them. Most of the ideas are too darn "cutsie" for me (i.e.cropping your baby's photos and putting mouse or bunny ears and whiskers is my definition of "cutsie"--not my style of scrapbooking, I'm not here to offend anybody who prefers this). The back of the book has lettering patterns and title ideas which anybody may find on numerous websites such as scrapbooking.com.I suggest this book is great for those begginers who need ideas for baby scrapbook themes: Documenting pre- & post-pregnancy, baby's firsts, baby's nursery, etc.It does not have much explanation on how the pages were constructed, but for my own sake I usually don't follow step-by-step,visualizing the parts of a layout from the photo itself. This book may be good for a beginner, but more advanced scrapbookers might find it too outdated.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent idea book, but hard to replicate what you see.
There's a ton of pages to look at, but not as much information about technique as some other books I've seen. If you're already into scrapbooking and just need some fresh ideas, this could be helpful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good creative ideas
I have been scrapbooking for years now and with baby #1 on the way wanted some additional creative ideas. This book does have some great ideas of varying complexity and documenting some of those moments that I may have not thought of.I recommend this for anyone doing baby pages. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but did not accomplish what I expected
The book really includes some outstanding scrapbook pages, but the book didn't keep my interest for long. I admire the work of all the participants, but I was looking for more graphical techniques, instead of finished work.
4-0 out of 5 stars wonderful ideas, but.........

2-0 out of 5 stars Too dated for me!
I wish I'd paid more attention to the publication date on this book. I also think the book should be subtitled: "A HISTORY of Scrapbooking and Memory Makers." There were few entries included that were from 2003, and many were from the late 1990's. Scrapbooking has changed so much in the last 8-10 years, and while this book serves as a great reminder of "look how far we've come!" it wasn't what I was looking for. Too many of the layouts featured are very dated. There were a few that I enjoyed, but those I probably already have seen from my years of getting the magazine! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best
An excellent book for all levels of scrapbookers, but especially so for those who are just beginning. Well done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Refreshing new ideas for the medium-advanced scrapbooker!
I have looked and wasted so much money buying scrapbooking books here and there for these tiny bits of "goodness" in them. When this book arrived I realized I finally found a true inspiration book - no fluff, no fillers, no really basic-how-to-scrapbook instructions.Everytime I open this book I become entralled with the examples....(Ooohhh, I NEED to do that next time...WAAYY TOO COOL!).
4-0 out of 5 stars Some super ideas for using your photos to their best!
This is a great book for ideas.Reading through its pages really gave me some great ideas for using several rolls of film I'd taken of a long weekend trip. The ideas for cropping your pictures are innovative and unique.I found my creative juices really flowing after reading this book.Highly recommended.See also:Memory makers Embellishments! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Love This Book!
I just got this book last week and it is amazing.
4-0 out of 5 stars scarpbook fanatic
It was not as helpful as I thought it would be. There are better products out there. This one is too abstract to be helpful. It has a lot of drawings that did not help me. I was disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea Starter
This is a great jump start for those times that you just can't think of the right thing. It has some terrific ideas.I am a big fan of Becky Higgins.I just wish that she had left blank pages for your own brainstorming.I did read a hint on CK to use a Rollabind punch to insert pages, but it there isn't a lot of room for expansion in the small binder. That is really my only complaint...Overall a great little product, and small enough to stash in my "luggage" when I go to a Crop. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Simple techniques for good scrapbook writing
Imagine looking 50 years into the future as your great grandchildren look through your scrapbook. There are plenty of great photos; there may even be notes on the dates and subjects. But beyond that, nothing.Eventually they close the album, having learned little about their ancestors in the early 21st Century.5-0 out of 5 stars Learn to describe, not tell, the stories in your scrapbooks
If you find it difficult to "let go" when you are journaling in your scrapbooks - and by that, I mean using your senses while writing in order to feel the moment, rather than just telling the facts - then you will want to invest in a copy of SCRAPBOOK JOURNALING MADE SIMPLE.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun, Inspiring, A Needed Change
This book is really fun and funny to read, and opens creative doors in your mind. IT's time for a scrap booking book that isn't about "beautiful people" living in perfect suburbs! I like the different lay out and art ideas. My critique is that I wished for better "how-to's". This is a compilation of pages and suggestions from the scrappers who made the pages, and their stories are interesting. The pages are not shown step by step, like in other scrap book books, and some additional guidance of achieving the art effects would have been good.Overall, an inspiration to make scrapbooks that are about more than my own face or my kid's first tooth ;-)

5-0 out of 5 stars YES!Finally an idea book that resonates with my soul...
I am a non-traditional scrapbooker.Don't fit the typical scrapbooker demographic whatsoever.I live in a huge city, have no kids, eclectic interests, and somewhat of an alternative lifestyle.I tried, and tried, and tried to get excited about other idea books, magazines, etc... but could never really relate to the layouts and themes featured within. I saw "Scrap City" on a rack of idea books in a store, opened it, and was immediately taken with the colors, the themes, the textures! And more than anything, the way I could totally relate to the themes of the layouts and other projects. Finally an idea book that resonated with my soul and validated my love of scrapbooking by showing projects and layouts I could truly relate to.Aside from scrapbook layouts, the book features other projects, including handmade books, altered art, and more. At the back of the book there is some good information on the basics of scrapbooking, techniques and tools and the like. And ideas on how to inspire your creativity.Definately the book I will be referring back to most often to spark my creativity and inspire new ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's not Becky or Heidi or. . .
Remember those really cool kids in high school?I mean the REALLY cool ones, the ones who weren't afraid to do their own thing and go their own way? Here's your chance to peek at some of their scrapbooks!

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!
Shari's book is simply amazing! She uses so many different elements to create wonderful pieces of art!I love how she has put so much of herself into this book. It's like I know her!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Treasure Trove
Shari Carroll's book is a unique approach to collaging her life experiences. Rather than putting them all on pages in a scrapbook, she has chosen many creative objects to present them. There are so many, but some of them are chipboard made into a chalkboard, old electrical outlets to make accordian picture frames, matchstick boxes to make a collapsing case(template included), wire screen to make a booklet, a darling door hanging made out of chipboard circles, and brown paper bags to make a booklet. Of course, all of these are collaged with bought and found items.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
I think this is a fantastic book for the beginning to above average crafter/artist.Of course if you are professional or very seasoned artist you probably already know the things in this book, so why would you be buying it? I love this book.I have just about every scrapbook ideabook out there by Creating Keepsakes, Paper Crafts, & Memory Makers. This one is a major favorite of mine. It's broken into wonderfully unique sections new inspiration to "think out of the box" while designing my scrapbook layout. 5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best, most useful scrapbooking idea books!
This book is a treasure.
5-0 out of 5 stars Clarifies what's out there and how to use it on your page
At long last somebody has tackled the task of cataloging the plethora of embellishments and page accents into one organized book. This is something that has been needed in the scrapbooking world for quite some time.Memory Makers magazine rallies to our cause (that is, the cause of making sense out of the "scrap market" for us customers) once again with Scrapbook Embellishments (Masters series).Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars More like Stark and Barren Scrapbooking
This book was a total disappointment. This author's idea of clean and simple is a bunch of black and white photos and computer generated text. So, only make albums in 8-1/2" x 11" because it will fit in your average ink jet printer (page 26).And make only black and white photos so you will not have to worry about clashing or coordinating your papers, text colors or embellishments with your photos.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best Scrapbooking book ever!
If I could give this book more stars I would. I love this book. I have been wanting to scrapbook for awhile, but was not feeling very inspired by what I was seeing in the magazines and on the internet. Then I found this book, and something just clicked. I love how nice and neat all the finished pages look. I love howCathy shows you that you can use all those gorgeous papers and embellishments that are available in the scrapbooking world, but that you don't have to "slap" them all together on a page. I also love how she has taught me how important journaling is. I mean that is the whole idea behind scrapbooking right? Remembering moments and events.
5-0 out of 5 stars Clean and Simple - not just for scrapbooking
On first look, you may think the pages too simplistic to render a book--however, upon closer inspection, you will find the intrinsic lessons C. Zielske relays add up to a methodology that applies to living life on the whole. It's about streamlining your efforts, looking at things, pictures, family...your life in simple terms without the need to do everything, see everything, have everything right now. It's a great guide to remind you how simple anything you put your mind to can be. It shows you how to clean up your scrapbooking/ crafting/whatever so that your focus/the picture/your project is what shines.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas and Easy to use.
This book is just what I needed to inspire me to make Cookbook Scrapbooks for my daughters for Christmas!I love how it encourages me to scan old dish towels, aprons, pictures and incorporate them into my Cookbook!Such a special way to share recipes and family collectibles as well. Great ideas and easy to use!

3-0 out of 5 stars It's not a COOKBOOK w/scrapbooking materials
It may be just me, but I thought this was an actual cookbook that came w/scapbooking materials for my family recipes.I re-read Amazon's description after I'd received the book, and still I find their description not clear. This is strictly a "how to" of scrapbooking your recipes - no cookbook or scrapbooking materials included.BUT I rated this book based on it's purpose. If you're already into scrapbooking, you're probably able to come up w/your own ideas w/out the help of this book - there isn't anything spectacular.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Source of Inspiration
Most of the pages she illustrates are the larger 12x12" size, but the author does give some examples of 5.5x7.25" and 8.5x11" pages, too. The projects are described step-by-step very clearly, and the photos of the pages are clear and bright. Overall, I found this to be a neat book with some really clever ideas. There are things I personally would not do (like use brads and buttons and stuff making the pages bulky and awkward), and I think she's wrong to use original photos and recipes, but that's my opinion. I really loved the idea of using vintage textiles as background art and clip art. It's definitely worth a look! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How to supplement lively image with equally-lively words, making the most of format options
Scrapbooking titles abound and provide inspiration for any who would record memories and experiences in an engaging manner - but most focus on the craft of pictures and image arrangement. WHAT ABOUT THE WORDS? CREATIVE JOURNALING FOR SCRAPBOOKERS goes a step beyond, focusing on word-images and how they are presented in the course of a scrapbooking project. From collages and lists to documenting silly behaviors or patterns, WHAT ABOUT THE WORDS shows how to supplement lively image with equally-lively words, making the most of format options.

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated Book!
I was very disappointed in this book.It seems to very outdated, and the ideas presented are not the most creative.Sure, the beginning scrapper could easily copy the layouts in the book, but they don't have that professional look that you expect to see in a scrapbooking book. The book does have a few good tips for beginning scrappers, and it has some patterns of diecuts in the back, which were helpful, however, I wouldn't recommend buying this book for those reasons alone.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice pictures but lacks detail
Lots of inspirational pictures by the author and other artists, but there is little description of how some of the more interesting techniques were done, like accordian board books and other binding techniques. Found it overall a little disappointing, but at least it wasn't too expensive. Also I wish there was less use of scrapbooking supplies and more use of original background techniques or art papers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shop till you drop
This is one of the worst books on bookbinding it has been my misfortune to purchase. It lacks detailed information on techniquesand substitutes what is generally a "go out and buy" attitude. It encourages the purchase of materials such as premade scrapbooking items rather than giving ideas for an individual to make and incorporate in the creative act.
4-0 out of 5 stars A little confusing for a beginner
Overall, I think that this book has a lot of information, great photos of lots of examples. The only reason I gave it four stars was that I think it could be better organized. It jumps around a bit and does not explain how some of the books are constructed. That may be simplistic for non-beginners, but this seems to be a beginning book! I found myself enjoying the pictures of the books, but wondering how some of them were made with rings, etc. This book is actually a very good value, but I wish there had been some photos of a book in progress, instead of jumping right in to finished pages! Overall, I am glad that I bought it, even though the instuctions are pretty general. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars too complex for beginners
I'm new to scrapbooking so got this book for ideas. There were few interesting ideas but...
3-0 out of 5 stars Not For Everyone
I like scrapbooking but am not interested in this book.I bought based on the descriptions and reviews.Very disappointed in that most of the pages, if not all, have something too thick on them.I like my pages to lay flat and not bulk up my albums.Cute ideas for framing or displays... but a lot of the best parts don't lay flat enough for me and my scrapbook albums.Lots of techniques are shown, but many are also too time-consuming or too involved or, as other said, require too many different materials/tools (thus cost too much) for me.I want cute and quick.Precious yet balanced with my time and effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars Scrapbook borders corners & Titles
This is a great book for scrapbooking.I have several scrapbooks, and this book is my favorite. The pages are so nicely done, and each page comes with directions, and a supply list of materials you will need to complete the project. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars inspirational and has good ideas
This book is a great buy.The ideas are interesting and inspirational and will work great for both card making and scrapbooking. However, you do need a lot of supplies to complete the projects. The pictures are excellant, but no instruction on how to actually create and complete the tags.Would recommend this book as an addition to your craft book library. Will add another dimension to your paper crafts.

4-0 out of 5 stars Erikia comes through again
Erikia Ghumm is a scrapbooking goddess!Maybe not to everyone, but if you lean a little more toward artistic scrapping, you'll like her books and her look. She really stretches the imagination and uses all sorts of nifty things to create and embellish tags. Some things you may never have heard of before (like cyanotypes) unless you earned an MFA.(Beats me, I was a pysch major and ended up with a MS in science.) But her tags are very hip (not all the tags are hers- she has some other artists working with/for her in this volume). Maybe the tags are TOO hip.The only reason I'm giving this a 4 and not a 5 is that the style is narrow (read "altered" "collage" "shabby chic").This may (or may not) be a style that extinguishes itself as rapidly as so many other scrapbooking styles do.Time will tell, as this is a new book.Let's see how the book looks in ten years, or in the mercurial world of scrapbooking, two months... just joking..

3-0 out of 5 stars Ecclectic, Busy, Altered Image Type Tags
This book reminded me of some of the Altered images books I have been reading recently. Many of these tags are just full of dimensional add-ons that often seemed "too much." When publishing newletters, one of the things you first learn is not to have 10 different fonts with various styles. It is simplier and more pleasing to the eye to narrow it down to a couple or so. Even though this is a different medium, I felt like this is something that would have been useful in this book. It just seemed like most of the tags and pages had too much "different" stuff going on and my eye could not seem to settle on what was supposed to be the focus of the page/tag.
