Useful but not exceptional
I recently bought this book and was surprised at the pages included. Overall, it has several very different layouts and some neat ideas for special topic pages (champagne bridal shower, leaving limo cutout). But, the pages were all sent in by "real people," so they do not at all have the polished look of the "memory masters" who usually compile Memory Makers books. I would say the level is intermediate, with a huge lack of advanced techniques. Antiquing, dry embossing, embossing with powders and a heat tool, embellishments, tags, vellum, use of computers, paint, and fabrics are not included at all. These are pretty standard in today's scrapbooking trends. The examples use stickers a lot, matted pictures, and cut-outs. There are some neat ideas, quilling in particular, and I really like the heritage pages. Because the pages were sent in, any specialty techniques are sparce and only given a few pages as examples. I agree this book is outdated overall, but is still a great place for a jump-start.

Very beautiful...
It is a very beautiful book.I have relatives who were married last year and we have tons of pictures to scrapbook.I was out of ideas, because I feel they have to be so perfect and elegant.This gave me plenty more.Thanks!

Don't judge a book by its cover...
I bought this off of Amazon without getting a chance to actually look inside of it first, so I was going by 1) other reviews, 2) the description and 3) the cover. After looking over all of these, it sounded like the book might have some interesting, fresh, "funky" ideas for gift books. So I ordered it. When I got it, though, I was quite disappointed. It DOES have some fresh ideas... *some*. There is one chapter that contains these, but most of the book consists of what I think to be rather typical scrapbooking. Nothing wrong with that, if that's your thing... but it isn't mine, and everything I saw really led me to expect something more interesting. I guess I should have expected a typical scrapbook book, since it is from Memory Makers. I have a few issues of their magazine, and the items featured in that are a lot more interesting that most of what I saw in this book.
Colorful & Idea Filled
The book shows a good variety of theme and specialty scrapbooks suitable for gift giving.Techniques include mini-albums, flip calendars, and other novel ways to document an event or honor an individual.Being new to scrapbooking, some of the instructions were too brief for me and didn't always clarify terms or show detailed enough examples.
A must have for those who prefer to give personal gifts
There is nothing more appreciated than a gift from the heart, and making a keepsake scrapbook for a family member, friend, or really just about anyone who touches your life is a gift that will be treasured.Read more

love to craft
I am pleased I bought this book to add to my collection.The ideas are good and offers interesting suggestions to break our of your routine of making your usual cards.I have made and adapted a number of the cards and constanstly received rave reviews from the reciptants of my cards.Great buy, worth the money, have no problem recommending this book!

Great resource!
This was a great way to get started with scrapbooking. It gave you the information you needed, and ideas on how to get started. It has a variety of ideas for tools to use, and gives examples throughout the book on how to make some of their sample pages.

All in One
Very complete, very well-written. Next to "SCRAPS: Adventures in Scrapbooking" this is the best book out there for creative women who run with the scissors.

Saving Money
I really like this book, I just started scrapbooking and find the book real easy to follow. I also saved a lot of money by not going out and buying things I may have not needed. I am excited about getting started, with what I really need, nowing I won't be wasting money in the process. I plan to have lots of fun.

Quilted Memories
Every time some one sees my book I am compelled to purchase them one as a gift. I am on my forth book. Everyone I know loves this book!

It's a winner.
If I never picked up a needle, I'd still want to have this book.It is beautifully written and photographed.Instructions are very clear and make it all seem so simple.This book certainly takes the fear out of the idea of quilting. GREAT IDEAS
This book is full of ideas for anyone to try. The directions are easy to follow and the techniques shown look beautiful. A good book for those who are new to scrapbooking and need inspiration or looking for something different. I am so glad that I bought it.

not what I expected...BETTER !!!!
I'm not really into 3D scrapbooks because I thought that it would take up too much space in my albums. But I bought this book because I figured I could make gifts and the reviews were great. I was very pleasantly surprised to find that most of the pages don't really protrude too much and are all very usable in my scrapbooks. Plus, you can tweak some of the ideas if you'd like more of a 2D page. All the layout ideas are beautiful, innovative and attainable. I've been scrapping for 5 years and I think these ideas are for beginners and "pros" alike. I don't have alot of time to scrap but these layouts are beautiful and fairly easy and quick to do. I also really liked that each page is a different layout idea and there are instructions for each layout. I actually bought this book before I realized that you can watch Sandi Genovese on Scrapbooking ( on DIYnetwork ). So it was a pleasant surprise to see a "familiar face". A beautiful book
I found the information in this book very helpful in directing a group of adult students this summer in creating sketchbook/journals.

LOVE THIS BOOK
Very glad I purchased this book ... filled with great ideas.Very well photographed projects.Just an overall pretty book as well.

The phographs are nice
But there just really isn't any substance to this book.The projects are very simplistic, so in that regard I suppose this might be a nice project book for a beginning collage/assemblage enthusiast, but if you have any experience, this book isn't for you.It does have some nice photographs of vintage ephemera, which I plan to cut out of the book and use in my projects, but for me, that is about all this book is good for. ... Information Vague and Contradictory
Taylor may give readers a good place to start in their efforts to preserve family photographs, but offers information that is both contradictory and vague. Excellent for do-it-yourself photo preservation
For me, studying old photos is one of the more fascinating aspects of family research, even when I'm not related to any of the people whose faces appear. The military uniforms, hats, parlor furniture, automobiles, urban scenes, and especially the faces and their expressions, are like a kind of time travel, allowing you to peer back into someone's past. Taylor's previous book, _Uncovering Your Ancestry Through Family Photographs,_ investigated that process. But how to protect the photos you already have tucked away in albums have so future family members will get the same pleasure (and information) from them? And how to rehabilitate those you discover to whom the years and the elements have not been kind? This time, the author outlines the steps you can take to see that your photographs have the best chance of survival and describes the methods conservators and restoration experts follow when the task becomes too much for you. She also guides you through the process of creating a meaningful scrapbook of archival quality, discusses the use of computer enhancement and electronic archives, and points out the legal aspects of posting photographs on a web site. The Amazing Page
I got a sneak peek at this new book last night.My friend, Carolyn Cleveland from Maysville, GA is publised just a few times in this book and I am amazed at how well the layouts are designed and how the publishers grouped them together in this book.This is one of the books that you'll have to have if you are a scrapbooker. Makes a great idea book, but a little out of date
As a beginning scrapbooker I found this book great for getting page ideas, but other than that it was a little hard to follow technique. Every technique referenced back to other pages so I found myself flipping pages to try and follow the techniques. what a pleasure to see more than just a few pages from what we know are entire volumes.One advantage of that for scrapbookers looking for inspiration is it allows us to see repeating motifs from page to page of each scrapbook or journal shown, though the subjects and themes of the pages change throughout each of those books.Cutting edge "art journal" style pages are in abundance, with some more traditional takes as well, displaying a plethora of techniques and plenty of tips, too.
