Art of the Scrapbook
This book isn't just a book that shows some examples and gives you some templates and says "go do this"... This is a book that any true artist would love to have in their collection. It gives complete instructions on construction of paper arts and all facets of the craft. There are more projects in this book than I have found in any other book on the subject. The projects are explained with clarity and I learned how to do things I would have had to take a class to learn. The author is a real artist not just a craft person. I recommend this book to anyone that wants to take this craft to another level.

The best one
I own quite a few scrapbooking and bookmaking books, and this is the one that got me hooked. I absolutely love this book. The tools and materials needed lists were extremely helpful in getting me started. The author also shows some terrific and easy techniques that I haven't seen in other books. The gallery sections are incredible -- beautiful without being completely way out there. Lots of practical ideas for projects. I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Thorough yet easy to follow instructions

The best you will find on the market about hand lettering
This book is a dream for anyone who had longed for beautiful handwriting and how to execute it.Debra does a wonderful job of presenting numerous alphabets and even shows how simple little embellishments drawn all around your writing can be.It is the best money I've ever spent and it covers everything.Buy this book and you own't be disappointed.I'd rate it 8 stars but 5 is the highest rating.

Easy to Use, Even for Beginners!
This was the first lettering book that I've used and it was very easy to follow. It's a great tool, even for beginners!

Very Handy
I really enjoyed the book.I have not totally utilized the book yet. (really busy)I can't wait to use it to its fullest.It has a lot of good pics and blurbs that will come in handy when scrapbooking.

Great book
I love this book.It is full of cute expressions and clipart to use on scrapbook pages or cards.There are many topics to choose from including babies, cats and dogs, and seasons.I only wish it came with a cd so it would be easier to print them from my computer.

Visualy creative layout - needs more instructions
In my ongoing quest for more info on the how-tos of creating my Heritage Scrapbook, I purchased CHS. It is much better than Bev K Braun's book - CHS provides many intersting lay-outs which has given me wonderful ideas. But thank goodness I don't want to exactly replicate them because very few step-by-step instructions are offered.

Wonderful
I have been making digital scrapbook pages for the past 2 years. I bought this book as part of a three book deal from a book club and I absolutely love it! It teaches you how to evaluate your pictures and choose the best possible layouts and color for them. It even has before and after pictures of pages and gives reason what made them better so you can see the rules and logic applied. Before I had several pages that I really was proud of, but now my pages really stand out and I'm getting better everyday! It made me go back and redo some previous pages that just didn't seem to work.

Good for New Scrapper, Better for Advanced Scrapper
This is a very good book for any level of scrapbooker with lots of good, basic information on color theory and layout design.I think a beginning scrapbooker can get a lot of good information about how to create a layout - but this book does not discuss how to organize photos, journal or create an album - so it is not a good "how-to" book.I would try the Scrapbooking for Dummies, etc. series if you want to learn how to scrapbook from a book or look-up a local Creative Memories consultant.This book is better used to inspire and trouble shoot.I often refer to this book when I am working on a layout and something is not quite right, but I'm not sure what.Reading this book usually helps me figure out the best color schemes to use or how to establish a focal point for my layout.In addition, the layouts are really good, with up to date product lists.

Great Book!
Too often I am disappointed with crafting books.Not with this one!It's full of ideas and techniques.I got this book last week and have already used three new techniques from it.It's really adding a new approach to my scrapbooking.One word of caution.I think there is an error in it.The directions for making the louvered slats that are slanted say to start from the inside and work out.If you do that, the slats don't lay correctly.Instead start from two opposite corners and work inward.To make sure the middle slats matched well, I drew a template with lines and put it under my work area to make sure my slats were straight and evenly spaced.Even with that error, I still give it 5 stars!

Excellentideas for unique ways to use papers
At first, looking at the beautiful scrapbook layouts I was intimidated but after reading the instructions for several techniques soon I was having a blast with my scissors and papers and filling up my scrapbook pages with very cool ways to incorporate paper. Never have worked with Vellum before the paper tearing technique was such fun also, the instructions for quilling and paper weaving were not only easy but the results looked like I spent much more time as they had an elegant, whimsical appearance. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

Great ideas!
I've been wanting to renovate my scrapbooking style for quite some time, and this book has been really helpful for that.The techniques shown look incredible on the scrapbook pages.A big benefit is that most or all of the projects require merely paper rather than expensive embellishments.

This book will get you PUNCHY!
I have enjoyed paper crafts for some time now, but one thing I thought I would avoid is using punches.I thought that they may be complicated to work with or I didn't know how to get mroe out of them.This book is SUPER about showing all sorts of ways to decorate with punches.My favorite feature is "One Punch" pages, where a single punch is shown used several different ways.A must buy for paper crafters!

Time consuming projects!
I love Volume 1 of this series.It has simple, easy to create products.This volume contains much more time intensive projects.Even my avid scrapbook buddies agree that this book is definately not as good as the first one.

Best Book For Beginners I Have Found.
I really like this book for beginners.Lately I have been giving scrapbooking start-up kits as gifts to friends and family, and have been including this book in the package.I would highly recommend this book!

Good Reference For Beginners
I am not new to scrapbooking, but thought I would like to have some books around for when I get "Scrappers Block".. this was the first one I chose.It's not much for pictures, but is filled with lots of practical knowledge.It fills you in on the differences between types of photo papers, adhessives, card stock, papers, and verious other things that are quite important to the look and longevity of your hard work.It is a bit dated, but the general information is a must for beginners.

Very broad - good for beginner scrapbooker
I bought this book and have read it cover to cover.It is a good book; however, it is very broad and covers a little bit of everything about scrapbooking.I've been scrapbooking for almost two years and really didn't come away with any more than I already knew.I was disappointed in it for myself, but am planning on sharing it with my mom who is just getting ready to get started.There really aren't many pictures and they are in black and white.More pictures, in color, would have added a bit more to the book. ... Pretty Good Book
I'd thought this book was pretty good. Although the whole book is in color which is fantastic and a lot of neat ideas, there wasn't instructions for each of the projects. Great Samples & Instructions
Not just for scrapbookers, this is for anyone who loves to play with photos.The instructions clearly explain the angles and mirroring to create the results you want, and the samples provide a wide array of ideas to get you going. Cool stuff!

I use this book in MY Scrapbook classes for kids!
This book is not intended to be a book full of awesome ideas and techniques, but a book that helps CHILDREN make scrapbooks of their lives.I use this book in my ever popular KROPPIN' KIDS classes and the participants (kids) are always inspired by knowing that many of the layouts are done by other children their age.I would reccomend anyone who teaches children, scrapbooking or otherwise, to use the ideas in this book.A great way to empower our kids!

Awesome for CHILDHOOD albums
This book has ideas for use with children in documenting their lives as they view it as well as for the adult who is backing up and documenting their own. I am always amazed at this author's ability to take it to the next step in my own thinking for scrapbooking. This book does not have as many PHENOMENAL layouts as you find in her BOOK OF US, but it is created by children, who generally are not the artistic creators like you find in magazines or other idea books. Instead, she has hosted a place to see where your own children can go with layouts and gives ideas for the scrapbooker trying to recapture their own childhood.

Shockingly disappointing
I was surprised at some of the ideas in this book being very poorly planned and lacking any sort of expertise.The author takes a very short list of ideas of ways to see your children (who their friends are, what sports they play, what they like in school, what their dreams are) and tries to stretch it into an entire book without originality or creativity.I was terribly disappointed with the lack of effort the author made compared to cheaper options filled with more information, even a basic scrapping magazine (pick any of them) has more technique ideas, layouts, color schemes, product ideas, titles, and suggestions than this whole book.This was a poor attempt for someone trying to make a name for themselves in the scrapbooking world. ... Inspiring!
I love this book!Ms. Sower's heart is so evident on each and every page she produces!I was caught in the trap of trying to make each of my scrapbook pages "picture perfect", often leaving out the most important part of the effort - my feelings about what I am producing.This book has clarified for me the real intent of scrapbooking, leaving a legacy to my children of their mother's heart. Excellent find
I just ordered this book after returning from a bookstore where I read it for almost an hour. Now, I have to confess, scrapbooking leaves me cold. This book however, goes far beyond scrapbooking. I do mixed media and can't wait to try all the various techniques I spotted here.

I love this book!
I am new to paper cutting but I am a scrapbooker/card maker.This book opened up a whole new world to me!
Yes, but.....
I mostly agree with the other reviewer said...BUT...I did see that Alison "Highly recommended..." this book in her newest (2007-2008) catalog, so I took a chance.(With a MUCH lower price here.)Ideas are GREAT, techniques are fair, patterns are fuzzy and not actual size.I'm an advanced cutter & I WILL use this book....but it will take some simple doctoring, to make them look as clean and sharp as the pictures in the book.After looking through the book (AND not remembering what I'd paid), I told myself it was worth a MAXIMUM of $15.00, for idea & pattern value.I paid less than that, so I'm satisfied.I give it a 4 and know that a beginner could benefit with the good ideas & simple patterns.

Tips and techniques are sketchy at best
This book has some attractive patterns, so, if you're just looking for patterns to blindly copy, it is probably fine.Unfortunately, however, it bills itself as offering tips and techniques -- which are very sketchy at best -- and the Resources don't even include Papercuttings By Alison, which is where 99% of US papercutters purchase their supplies.You would HAVE to own at least one other papercutting book to be able to use this -- which is a darned shame, since it would have been very simple for the author to mention the basic things every papercutter knows about using paper, scissors, knives, etc.If you're going to NAME your book Techniques, you really ought to include as much information as possible.Conversely, if she'd named her book Patterns, it would have been fine.I just wouldn't want anyone to think that this is a standalone book on the subject ...
