4-0 out of 5 stars A reader from Minnesota
As the title of the book implies - this is a book about "finishing touches" and decorating for Christmas not a quilt book. In addition to Lynette's gifts as a quilt and fabric designer, she is also an accomplished gardener and decorator. This book reflects her insight and ability to put that all together. I use my copy as a "coffee table" book during the holidays.

1-0 out of 5 stars I love Thimbleberries, but this one's a Stinker!
I am probably one of the world's biggest Thimbleberries/Lynette Jensen fans - I have made over 10 of her quilts and have several more in the works.I have five of her books and have enjoyed them all with one big exception - this one! It's just a bad rehash of photos from the "Christmas Cottage" book.No projects, no instructions, NOTHING!To make matters worse, all of the photos are taken in extreme close-up so there is no perspective on anything.Do youself a favor: spend your hard-earned money on one of the other worthwhile Thimbleberries books. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Finally--some "adult" Halloween Decor Ideas!
I agree with some other reviews that the plastic honey bear & "Aunt Jemima" lights are bit ... uhhhh, cheesey; however, there is tons of other stuff that is very classy and it has great photos and interesting tidbits. Despite a few cheesetastiks, it's still WELL WORTH the price and a must-have for any fan of HALLOWEEN!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not as expected
Although this book has one or two interesting projects, overall, it wasn't as wonderful as the other reviews cracked it up to be.I was unexpectedly dissapointed!

3-0 out of 5 stars Crafty, but not elegant
I just got this book and there are some good ideas in it (which is why I gave it three stars), but I do not find the majority of their decor to be elegant.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just as Dazzling as the Title Claims
The instructions are excellent, all of the templates are included, and the end results are attractive & unique. You don't have to be an exceptional artist to make these cards, and basic supplies (rubber cement, scissors, & colored paper) can be used for all of the patterns. You can also easily vary the designs with different patterns/types of paper or add that extra touch with lettering. The cards can be used for all occasions or no occasion, and cover all four seasons and major holidays. A wonderful addition to any library--I would recommend it for all skill levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just used it to make all my holiday cards!
I have made about half of the cards in this book at least once since I bought it in January, and I look forward to making some more. In fact, I just finished making all of my Christmas and Hanukkah cards from patterns in this book, and they came out pretty well. Most of the patterns lend themselves to personal touches, which keeps things interesting and allows you to get more mileage out of them. 5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent, well-rounded set of project ideas
Card givers desiring a more personal touch than Hallmarks or the computer can produce will find Sandra Lounsbury Foose's Card Shop packed with fresh new ideas for handmade cards. Editorial Review

As with the other books in the Singer series, this one offers great step-by-step instructions and detailed color photos that are fairly easy to follow and yield very polished results. Construction comes in three basic styles: tabards, gowns, and full-suit costumes, as well as detailed directions on making various types of headwear, capes, collars, skirts, wings, leggings, and shoe covers. Though the costume ideas are a bit on the ordinary side (pumpkin, spaceman, lion, king and queen, and the like), the terrific instructions can be adapted to unlimited costume designs of your own devising. 5-0 out of 5 stars Getting the Creative Juices flowing
This is one of those books that helps those who are only semi-creative get some ideas on how to make projects their own. Most of the patterns are not overly complex. Some of them are going to seem pretty challenging for folks who are not too far into their scroll-sawing avocation. The photography is worth the price of the book. Different treatments of the various projects, different textures, different color combos, all help the craft mechanic to become a possibility thinker. The book presumes some familiarity with scrolling. It's not a book for a rank beginner, but most of the patterns can be accomplished by a person who has learned to cut a two dimensional project with inside and outside cuts. For those reasons alone, it's a good one to have on your shelf. Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas, great technique info
I really enjoyed this book, particularly for the ideas. There are so many different "personalities" of pumpkin faces represented, in addition to some abstract ones. I "freelance" my pumpkins and it was really helpful to see the specific cuts to create a particular effect. The patterns/templates coupled with the full-color images (with candles glowing inside) really helped me understand how to use relief more effectively to create the look I want. 4-0 out of 5 stars Halloween fun
Palmer is a high school art teacher and he uses that experience to teach people how to carve some spectacular pumpkins in this book. Each of the pumpkin designs has a template you can cut out to use for the actual pumpkin carving, which makes it very easy to do, since you don't need a lot of artistic or pumpkin-carving talent to make it work. He also includes technical details on the procedures, such as the necessity of occasionally using a drill to get the smaller, more precise holes and cut- outs.Read more

Editorial Review

Martha, of course, has done it again. This time she tells us exactly how we can create perpetual keepsakes--including stockings, ornaments, and everlasting wreaths--craft special gifts, cook up tasty treats to give as presents (bourbon praline, marzipan snowmen, prosciutto bread, cranberry chutney), and produce cards, wrappings, tags, and favors. Some are time-consuming and/or expensive to make--wooden bowls gilded with real gold leaf may be a bit pricey for some--but others make economical use of discards, such as sweater pillows, snow globes, and shell candles. The chapter on gift making for "a long, long list" is especially helpful, with its suggestions for assembly-line production of both presents and wrappings. Naturally, Martha addicts will love this book, but even if you find her a bit irksome, it's hard to deny that these elegant crafts would please just about anyone on your gift list. Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars good ideas
There were some good ideas in this book. Unlike the invitation book, they didn't seem to be as origional. There were also favor ideas that wouldn't really be useful for most weddings. However, there were some cute ideas, I liked the tags they used for place settings. There were some tips that I wasn't aware of before reading the book. I do have to admit there are a couple of things that we might consider for our reception. I am looking forward to getting the other artful bride book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Martha's employee makes a book.
Following from the previous review where I commented that the projects in this book could have been from 'Martha Stewarts weddings' imagine my amusement when I saw on the back of the book that the Author IS from Martha Stewart's living! Trust me, this book is truly banal.

1-0 out of 5 stars I sadly missed McFadden in this artful bride book.
Compared to the wonderfully creative and unique original 'Artful Bride' I found `wedding favours', the third book of the artful bride series to be a real let down. I was terribly disappointed so I checked and saw it was only written by one of the two authors of the first book, sadly Graphic Designer Laura Mc Fadden is absent. I found all of the projects in the third book to be rather obvious and lacking in enthusiasm, and especially lacking the edgy well designed feel of the first book, which is a bible for the crafty anti-bride.
