Great Book
I purchased this book for my father for a gift and he absolutely loves it. He sat down immediately and started to read the book and plan out how he was going to make his first rocking horse. The best miniatures book EVER !!!!!
This stunning book has absolutely EVERYTHING to help you create, not only the best looking dolls house dolls I have ever seen, but also a fabulous bridal salon, and totally awesome little accessories such as lingerie, floral arrangements and even wedding cakes that look good enough to eat!
Somewhat misleading
This is a very nice book is you are into dolls. There are lots of pretty pictures and good directions. More than a third of it's content is devoted to making doll dresses. If you count the many pages included that cover the bride's accessories(shoes, bouquet, champayne glass, veil; that sort of thing), then I would state that the majority of the book is about the doll. There is very little on the settings for weddings.

Sometimes puzzles are not obvious.
This book on Puzzles was first published in 1986 and later published in paperback. I borrowed it from my Library a couple of times and recently obtained my own copy. If you have any interest in puzzles,you'll immediately agree that this book is outstanding in every way. The authors are two of the biggest names when it comes to writing about mechanical puzzles of today and of the past. Jerry Slocum has collected puzzles all his life,has over 30,000, and has probably the finest collection in the world. He is President of the Slocum Puzzle Foundation,in Beverly Hills,California.
Excellent book for anyone interested in puzzles
I bought the book originally to learn how to make some of the puzzles. The fact that there are dozens of puzzles to make immediately differentiates the book from others. There is an enormous wealth of information about puzzles of all kinds. The authors have notes about puzzle inventors, tips on making puzzles, and, in a few cases, tips on how to solve the puzzles. Really a nice book for anyone with an interest in puzzles.

It's no puzzle this is a great book!
This book is full of many types of mechanical puzzles many dating from the early 19th century.150 pages of pictures and discriptions of how to make and solve many of these puzzles along with history and biographies on many of the puzzles and makers.The authors have included concise instructions on how to make many of these puzzles from wood with common handtools and a basic knowledge of how to read net drawings.A great read for any age. ... A terrific book on antique china, silver and glass that was well-written and beautifully photographed. I felt like I was part of the periods discussed.

My son loves his rocking horse.
My grandfather finished making the rocking horse from this book last week - he had checked the book out from the library.My 15 month old son loves his white horse!I looked through the book and saw many other toys that I know my son will like, so I'm going to order it and ask my husband to get started!

Interesting projects, nice background info, and clear instructions
This book is excellent.In addition to Rodney Frost's books, I'm adding this to my library of books which inspire me to create other projects.There are new (old, really, but new to most readers) twists on familiar toys - as other reviewers have commented, the background stories are really fun, too.Cool book!

HOURS OF FUN
I'VE BUILT 7 OF THE 12 TRUCKS AND THEY ARE FANTASTIC. I PLAN ON DOING 11. PLANS ARE VERY DETAILED AND EASY TO FOLLOW. THERE IS SUPRISINGLY FEW ERRORS FOR THIS TYPE OF BOOK CONSIDERING THE NUMEROUS MEASUREMENTS ETC..IT DOES TAKE A FAIR AMOUNT OF TIME FOR EACH BUT THE RESULTS ARE VERY SATISFYING. YOU WILL NEED AT MINIMUM A BAND SAW, DRILL PRESS AND COMBINATION BELT/DISC SANDER WHICH CAN BE OBTAINED FOR UNDER A HUNDRED DOLLARS. I HAVE NO HESITATION IN GIVING THIS 5 STARS!!!!!

A Fine reference book in a limited field
In a field with no published works on making fine doll furniture, this is a gem. Keep in mind that these plans are for 20-30 inch dolls. The basic information is explained, but some basic woodworking skills will be needed. The measurements are quite valuable and illustrated plans are good, and one should take note of the doll sizes that will match the scale. All the furniture plans are colonial reproductions. If time and care is taken using these plans, very fine heirlooms can be created for those little girls in the family.

Very Good Book about Wooden Toy Making
I've had this book for over a year and used it as the basis for a number of toys I've created.The instuctions are clear and concise.The plans are easy to follow and include scaled drawings for each toy.The authoralso includes a very useful discussion of materials and finishesappropriate for building children's toys and design ideas for building yourown animated creations.These sections alone justify the purchase of thebook.Be aware that most of the designs in the book are copyrighted and ifyou wish to build them for commercial purposes you will need to contact theauthor.My favorite plan is for a very simple to make wooden rattle basedon a traditional folk art design (this is not copyrighted).I've built sixrattles and presented them as gifts to new parents and have been delightedto see how much infants love to play with them. This is a great source forwooden toy makers.

My favourite woodworking book
Whenever I am looking to make a toy for someone, this book is invariably the first one I always reach for.The plans have heaps of detail and processes for making the toys are very well thought out. These toys arenot only animated, but appear to be alive, David has put a lot of effortinto making these toys realistic and the movement fun for children (andlots of us not so young). Something for everyone in 'Wood on Wheels'
