5-0 out of 5 stars Love it love it love it, Not for everyone.
I absolutly love to cook, have been to culinary school, also not afraid of new things. I have tried most of these recipies and many have become regulars. The smoked salmon terrine although is expensive we normally make on every holiday now. Sugarcane Baked Ham with Spiced Apples and Pears is super. Beef Tenderloin with Fresh Horseradish and Black Pepper Crust was suprizing ly good, I ont like horseradish at all, but it was paired so beautifully in this recipie it was sublime. Jiffy Pop Firecracker Shrimp we make everytime we have shrimp in the house. the Chocolate Chocolate Pudding Cake with Chocolate Ganache, Creole Christmas Trifle, Creole Christmas Fruitcake with Whiskey Sauce and the Banana Cream Pie with Caramel Drizzle and Chocolate Sauces is to die for, however this recipie is written with the assumption you have made custards b4 and know you need to temper it beford adding the hot milk mixture. I have not made the Lobster Cheesecake with Christmas Caviar Sauce but hope to soon. the big boy cookies and the spiced pecans...Ummm yummy, I am soo happy to have bought this book. If you are open to try new things, If you like to occasionally like to indulge and eat like something so decatend and pretend that it is a common thing, this book is definatly for you. Emmeril, you are my hero.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not for the faint of heart--but worth it!
If you're only familiar with Emeril from his TV appearances, this book may surprise you. It lacks the flamboyance and loud flashiness, replacing them with a certain elegance and gourmet style. It includes a Christmas Eve dinner for ten, Emeril's Christmas Day brunch buffet, New Orleans New Year's Eve dinner, a New Year's Day supper family style, the Chef's holiday favorites, and Emeril's "stocking stuffers."5-0 out of 5 stars kick your christmas up a notch!
I bought this cookbook for my sister, who is a big Emeril fan!I was a little worried after reading the reviews and as soon as the book came in, went through it to check it out.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!...
I LOVE THIS BOOK! THE PHOTOGGRAPHY IS SO SIMPLE AND BEAUTIFUL AND THE RECIPES ARE SOME OF MY FAVORITES.LOU PAPPAS HAS A DELICATE PALATE THAT DOESN'T OVERPOWER THE PASTRY WITH ONE INGREDIENT.I HAVE TASTED ALMOST EVERY RECIPE SO I SHOULD KNOW!!IT IS SO GOOD I GAVE THIS TO 8 FRIENDS FOR CHRISTMAS AND THEY LOVED IT TOO.

I tried 2 recipes: the Florentines- which were worse than tasteless, they also spread so much and were so thin/holey, that the chocolate on the backdripped through, making it basically a very unattractive thing.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Making Life Easy using Southern Living Cookbooks
I made a fantistic discovery when a co-workers loaned me her copy of "Christmas with Southern Living Cookbook," Volume 3, 1999 Ed.Within 1 week, I had tried out four recipes with marvelous results. The shopping lists were most helpful. My family was elated that I prepared what they called "Sunday Dinners" during the week. I found using the recipes to be a "no-fail" task, very easy to follow and produced "fine dining." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Beautiful Book
The photographs in this book are absolutely stunning. You could set it on your coffee table for guests to look through, and even if they don't know a Meyer lemon from a tangelo, they'll take great pleasure in looking through this book (they'll learn something, too).Everything is lovingly laid out, photographed and eloquently described.Buy the hardcover edition, because you'll want to keep it for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Holiday Treasure - and gift
Martha's Holiday book this really touched my heart. My mom has always grown Amaryllis and Christmas Cactus, chapters 4 & 5 really were a delightful surprise. I now know the Christmas Cactus the I have is called "White Christmas". When I told my mom about the charts, she was so interested in the book (she lives in Ohio and we live in Fl.) that I am immediately sending her one for Christmas. My son is a personal chef - so we all love to cook and I love to decorate. The pictures are great as usual, but I think I like the charts about the topic in each chapter. They are beautiful and informative. It was great to see the different types of pine cones and citrus. The best part is that even if you don't use these ideas during the holidays - the things you have learned will be useful all year and will be great to share with friends and family.3-0 out of 5 stars Lotsof reprints from the magazine
You know this going in, but there arent' as many really neat "new" things as the last books. More biscotti, and a lot of good uses for the endless bags of cranberries in the back of my freezer.I'll start on those for Christmas about November 1, I think. If you like Martha, this is the fifth in the series, but there wasn't anything besides the cranberry stuff that really "grabbed" me.Still, it's great to continue your collection. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Another Martha Classic!
Here's another Martha book for the collection! With all the ideas and beautiful pictures, it's a book that sure to inspire most to creating beautiful tables and decorations for your own spectacular party!

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre for Martha
In this month's (Nov. 2000) issue of ************************, Martha's traditional opening letter proudly describes the way she gave a presentation to potential stockholders about "spreading our costs of creating fresh and timely and evergreen content."What that means for us, Martha's consumptive public, is increasingly recycled content, which is unfortunately the case in this book.4-0 out of 5 stars It's About Time!!
After searching for several years for a Christmas craft book that is simple enough for the average person to follow, Martha Stewarts "Parties and Projects for the Holidays" hit the spot. She does an excellent job of illustrating the instructions to make them easy to follow. She also included some great crafts for children of all ages in this book. Not only are there these beautiful crafts for us to try, but just as many good recipes.A definate and all around great buy!! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but, needs a bit more
I'd never seen a real recipe for sugarplums. That was really a treat. The confections are obviously high class and fancy. The only thing I found wrong with it was that there were not enough photographs included in it. I mainly bought the book because there's a marzipan pig recipe and eggnog truffles. Unfortunately, there were no pictured instructions on how to form them or what they look like after they're made. There are nice pictures included, just not enough of them. But again, I can tell that the recipes are of very good quality. Enough so to make what's displayed in the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars For candy lovers everywhere...
This book is not only gorgeous, the recipes are easy and taste out of this world. I made turtles first thing, and was astonished at how easy it was. Course, then I had to eat the 48 turtles I just made, which wasn't too difficult! The instructions are simple to follow, and the results are spectacular. I recommend it to anyone who loves candy or loves making special gifts. Top notch!! ... Read more

A very good crafts book to have on hand. Many of the ideas presented can be adapted to other holidays and religious events. Besides crafting for home decorating, the crafts are of a grand quality to present as gifts. The directions are clear and what I appreciated most: a list of materials/items needed to complete a project. Additional pages provide tips that can be applied to other tasks/projects and condensed to one page for easy reference. The pictures provide the extra info you need when you are not comfortable with the written instructions.I recommend this book as one to keep on the shelf and when you need that quick gift, decoration or idea, just reach for this one! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome recipes!
If you love good food, you have to buy this book! The desserts section in particular are just nothing short of out of this world. My husband started calling me a gourmet cook after I started using these recipes from this book throughout the year. The pork loin roast and stuffing is awesome, but so are those chocolate and peanut butter cookies (they call for a pound of butter, if that gives you some idea of how delectable they are!).The recipes in here are just incredible and you need to get them to use every day.You certainly won't be disappointed and even the decorating tips are great.Buy IT!

Editorial Review

Countless books detail holiday projects for the dedicated crafter, but here's a title that encourages the whole family to get involved in Christmastime baking and decorating. Helpful tips on cooking and crafting with kids make it easy to get started, and many of the craft projects require only minimal adult supervision. Whip up a whole host of ornaments, garlands, cards, and wrappings using such easy-to-use items as salt dough, aluminum foil, and bright magazine clippings. Delight little Santa's helpers with kid-friendly nibbles like chocolate crispy bears or smiley-face pancakes, and surprise grown-up guests with a Yule log cake or chocolate-peppermint swizzle sticks. Full directions are given for all craft and food items, including enough recipes for a full Christmas dinner. One minor drawback, especially for children: most of the crafts are not pictured, so crafters may have difficulty visualizing the finished product. But there are enough color photos to give a general impression of the projects, making Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars reader from New York City
I've bought a couple of the other books in this series and I have to say that this one was a total diappointment. The crafts in this book were just so ordinary. I was hoping for some unique crafting ideas but only got some projects that I probably did as a Brownie or Girl Scout. Not worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Christmastime Treats: by Sara Perry
Another winner from Sara Perry! I'm giving this to all my young friends with children, and to the grandparent set as well. The crafts are easy to make, and the recipes are rewarding in every way.
