Tempting Holiday fare
This has beautiful pictures and all the meals look lovely.The recipe for Honey-brined turkey with cream gravy was out of this world.There are creamy scrambled eggs with herbs, cheddar cheese biscuits with dill and chives, wild rice dressing with pearl onions, and so much more!There is even a section dedicated explaining the differences between dressing and stuffing.Excellent!

Lack of photos mars this presentation of great recipes.
As always, Bon Appetit offers up recipes that are well-written and delicious.The scope of this book isn't limited to Christmas.If covers the whole holiday season - Thanksgiving to New Years.There are wonderful menus for entertaining in a variety of settings and many supplemental recipes.There is also a section on treats to make for gifts. Unfortunately, there are not many photographs in this book.Especially in a holiday cookbook, pictures are indispensible.As good as a recipe for a special Christmas cookie may be, I want to SEE what the finished product looks like, especially if I'm thinking about giving them as gifts.

The Spirit of Christmas - Book Nineteen
I have been a crafter for many years and have used this particular series of books for quite a few of them.Many of the ideas are very good and the photography is done very well.I have found the recipes to be delicious and the directions clear although many are not for the novice cook.NOTEWORTHY; it is not always easy and sometimes impossible to find the supplies listed for some of the projects.I have often been forced to substitute with something else that was close to what was originally called for.I would like to see a "Resources List" with names/addresses/telephone numbers added to these books where project-specific supplies could be purchased. ... Dry Dough!Dry Dough!
I'm not saying I'm the best cookie-maker in the world, but I do know how to turn a few out.I tried four recipes in this book -- following them to the LETTER -- and in each one (most notably the mint chocolate chip sticks, the choc hazelnut with caramel & the orange snowballs) the dough came out dry and difficult to work with.Which, of course, resulted in disasters for cookies.A lot of wasted effort and ingredients.

A wonderful collection of inventive cookies
I really enjoyed this book.Put together by the folks at Better Homes and Gardens you know it is a recipe book that is filled with quality recipes that turn out well.I enjoyed this book because of its variety.Some cookie cookbooks are just a collection of a bunch of similar recipes.This book has many recipes for all sorts of different kinds of cookies.This book features pecan balls, shortbread, mascarpone creams, brown sugar balls, and so much more.The book gives in dept instructions on decorating.If you are looking for something off the beaten path, and a book that actually features pictures of all of the recipes, well this is the book for you.

Good, but not excellent
This is a beutilful book with some very good recipes.But what I do not like is that there are some recipes that call for cookie or cake mixes.If I want to make a brownie, I do not need to buy a book.Simply, I follow the instructions of the package.It is true that sometimes a mix can be enriched, but I find that many times a recipe changes as the brand of the cake mix changes. A GOOD CHRISTMAS EDUCATION
Having Rodgers' Thanksgiving 101 book I decided to try his Christmas 101 book, too.This is not, nor is it meant to be the all-encompassing cookbook for Christmas.It is a rather slight book at under 200 pages.
Too Many Misses
I own two of Rick Rodgers 101 books and have been pleased.I was disappointed in this one however because I am not a cook who uses alcohol in cooking or beverages and that eliminated many of Rick's holiday offerings.It would have been nice to have some non-alcoholic substitutions suggested.I felt that, for me, this book was not worth the price.

Author Rick Rodgers, already the master of all things associated with Thanksgiving has now given us a terrific Christmas/New Year's guide.His practical suggestions include everything from setting up the perfectholiday cocktail party to getting the cards written (you don't really needto do them ALL at one sitting!), to planning for Christmas & NewYear's--both Eve & Day celebrations.The recipes are uncomplicated,and generally use ingredients that are already on-hand.There's lots ofnostalgia here & some great suggestions for music (the Ella FitzgeraldCD is the best!).Christmas set-up in our house has already been smoother& more relaxing because of this book. ... Treasure Chest of Traditional, Easy Recipes.
`A Quilter's Christmas Cookbook' by `Good Books' (in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania) editors Louise Stoltzfus and Dawn J. Ranck is a genuine bargain for traditional recipe collectors who keep their magazine cutouts in little `tin' filing cans designed for holding 3" by 5" index cards. I know this because this is exactly how my mother keeps her recipes, and so many of the recipes in this book are the very same she has in her little gray can.
A great collection of recipes!
Whether you are a quilter or not, you will love this cookbook.
And it's not just for Christmas!!

This book has a great recipes, unique crafts, and is so cute.I highly recommend it.

Great Book!
What a great book!It's a shame that amazon doesn't have it in.However, if you're missing this one, you can go to gooseberrypatch.com and they have this one online.Plus, they have it in hardback too, which I prefer.Try oxmoorhouse.com too - they may have it as well.The more you order, the more you save! Anyway, this is such a great book and is basically a continuation of the fabulous recipes that are in book three.I use these recipes throughout the year and I just can't tell you how wonderful they are! My husband doesn't like it when I give these as gifts because he wants everyone to think I'm a gourmet cook!You won't be disappointed with these books - the decorating ideas are fabulous as are the gift projects.These make awesome gifts too! ... Adelightful Christmas album
Since both authors are professional photographers, it is to be expected that the photographs in this book are all excellent and many are artistic. I was in a dilemma as to how many stars I should give to rate this book. As a Christmas album it deserves at least five stars. However, as a book about Christmas customs I would only give it three (therefore on average I give it four). Delicious, easy and unusual recipes!
I love this book! I received it as a birthday present and, although it is still just over a month til Christmas, I have already made a lot of the recipes in it. There is a photo for each recipe which is always a bonus and the Christmas stories are funny and well-written. The recipes themselves are absolutely delicious! I have just made the allspice ribs, last week I made the gingerbread sponge cake, just so easy to cook and eat! I would recommend this even to those not celebrating Swedish Jul as the recipes are good year round. ... Read more
