5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and a good read too!
Of all the Carolyne Roehm books, this set is my favorite. It had some practical gardening tips as well as the flower arrangements and recipes. If you are expecting a gardening "how to" book, this is not the one. However, the books are beautiful and I enjoyed each one.It gave me many ideas for my own home.I will never have a budget that allows me to purchase 12 dozen roses for one display, however, many of her ideas can be implemented on a smaller scale with less expensive florals. The color combinations were inspiring as well as the examples of matching floral displays to the surroundings. If you love flowers and beautiful table scapes, you will love this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Gift for the Lover of Beauty
Carolyne Roehm demonstrates her exquisite taste from the very first page of this lavish book.Organized by season, each chapter celebrates the beauty of all sorts of blossoms in stunning arrangements. These arrangements are lush and full and show an artist's mastery of texture and extraordinary combination of color. The photos are reminiscent of the sumptuousness of the movie, The Age of Innocence, with lovely gilded gold, crystal and porcelain containers. The photography truly is breathtaking and includes not only close ups of the bouquets but also glimpses of elegantly set dining tables, gorgeously furnished rooms and spacious gardens. Her prose is poetry, but also practical in the sections on containers, elements of style and basics.A better book on flower arranging couldn't possibly exist.

5-0 out of 5 stars **Fantastic Photos**
This book is a joy- the vibrant photos actually helped me through the long Pennsylvania winter.Lots of great tips on arrangements- from colors and containers.I envy Roehme's budget for entertaining!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible photography of the most beautiful flowers
The flowers depicted in this book gave their lives for a truly noble cause and have been honored appropriately by the photographer.Quite simply they were displayed and photographed in the most beautiful fashion possible.Perhaps the key word there is fashion -- Carolyn Roehm has the experience and eye for fashion, having been a former designer, and that experience may be what enabled her to display the flowers in a way that truly does them justice.I coveted this book for a long while, having seen it in a bookstore, and couldn't get it out of my mind. Now that I own it, I consider myself very fortunate indeed. The book is divided into the four seasons.Particularly strong are the photos depicting the flowers prevalent in Fall and Spring. The smoky greens, yellows, oranges, reds, and browns of the Fall months's foliage manage to look festive and lovely despite their representing the waining of life until the Spring. The photos of lilacs and daffodils in the section on Spring make one hopeful for the end of winter and make one realize why all that shivering is eventually worthwhile.I loved this book and recommend it heartily for anyone who loves pretty flowers and doesn't particularly have any special horticultural knowledge. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Timeless Reference for Gracious Living
This beautifully photographed book is a feast for the eyes and fodder for the creative person. It is NOT a step by step guide on how to wrap a package (although she does devote a couple of pages on how to wrap a basic box which most people know) or tie a bow (she also shows how to tie a basic bow).IT is full of ideas that one can "lift" and make your own with your own materials.
3-0 out of 5 stars Been there done that
Nothing new, to me anyway. Pictures were beautiful but to someone who hasn't done it before, the instructions aren't enough.

5-0 out of 5 stars A classic reference
The photographs in this book provide imaginative ideas for gift wrapping and giving that I will go back to again and again. The quality of the book, the personal notes, list of resources for materials, brief easy how-tos, suggestions for materials, and creating computer-generated wrapping paper, are all appealing facets of this gorgeous book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jaw Dropping Coffee Table Book
A treasure! Gorgeous photography on glossy paper; perfect gift or coffee table book. Easy recipes mixed with very do-able settings that create beauty in the extreme. Every page is special.

5-0 out of 5 stars Visually stunning and an incredible resource
This book is absolutely amazing.Although I do not have all the resources as Ms. Roehm, the recipes are supurb, while the suggestions and ideas are easily adaptable to the smaller scale and your personal environment. If you are looking for a resource on interior design, think again...this is an entertaining guide. There are also lots of helpful hints regarding color usage and flower selection. This book is my new entertaining Bible!Step aside, Martha!

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice recipes ...
I've only made a few of the recipes so far, but they turned out very nicely. In particular, the lemon-dill pasta will become a staple of mine from here on out.Read more

Good intentions tend to bloom and fade like a perennial: next year, you'll dig up the border by the front walk and install those delphiniums you've always wanted; next year, you'll put up those abundant tomatoes so you can savor them during the depths of winter. To realize those good intentions, try organizing them with fashion designer and author Carolyne Roehm's Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars More a look at a socialite's lifestyle
As is true with all four books in this series, this "notebook"is beautifully photographed.Ms. Roehm's series does not offer much depthin any of the "categories" covered in the book-- gardening, hearth (whatever that is), etc. but does demonstrate her truly beautifuldesign sense, especially in floral arranging. The spiral-bound format, including pockets for the reader's own clippings, and the many blank pagesfor the reader's own notes are more gimmicky than helpful, and take up lotsof space in an already "lightweight" effort.Unlike the MarthaStewart books, against which these are positioned, Ms. Roehm's books do notoffer the detailed "how-to" approach of Ms. Stewart'sexcrutiatingly detailed tomes, but are more a peek into Ms. Roehm'sperfectionist lifestyle, which is very entertaining in itself. With many, many references to her home, affectedly titled "Weatherstone",Ms. Roehm's books are more a "season" in the life of a newlymonied socialite than an expert's teachings. However, all said, Ms.Roehm's text demonstrates a quick wit and a somewhat self-deprecatingstyle, which when combined with the almost desperate desire to impress thereader with the elegance of 'ole "Weatherstone", makes one seeher as a charming, insecure, vulnerable, and very talented woman. The four"notebooks" left me wanting to see more photographs of herexquisite designs, less from her as an "expert", and gave me theimpression that I would like to learn more about her journey post-divorcefrom Henry Kravis, and post-clothing design business. An expert she ain't,but an interesting woman, most certainly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, extravagant photography
I love Fall -- it's my favorite season, so I wanted to love this book.I wasn't disappointed! The photos are sumptuous and gorgeous; the recipes are yummy and inspire thoughts of running straight to the kitchen; and theinformation about the flowers was truly informative. If you love Fall, you'll love this book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Feast for the eyes
These books are enjoyable to look at, quite beautifully photographed. Very relaxing to browse through. However, they are short on horticultural details for the plants that are featured, so one should not buy them forthat kind of information. The recipes are good, the floral arrangementsare inspiring. The format of focusing on one season at a time makes them anice primer to help you think about what you want to accomplish or gear upfor in the next three months, which is nice from a planning perspective. The ability to write notes in the spaces provided is a plus for this sortof planning. And Ms. Roehm gives photo credits to those employees whomake her lifestyle possible by doing a lot of the work in her garden andhome, unlike some well-known domestic divas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don'tMiss This Fabulous Book!
In her new book "Spring Notebook" Carolyne Roehm has outdone herself again. If you love gardening, flowers and entertaining this is a inspiring and breathtaking book! The pictures are beautiful and the bookis packed full of lots of gardening tips and recipes. The book is done in aspiral bound format and there are folders to keep your own clippings, gardening ideas and recipes in. There are a list of sources in the back ofthe book! This is truly a enjoyable book that you will want to keepforever. ... Read more

Exactly the book I was looking for - great photos, good hints, clear explanations. A pleasure for the eyes!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but nothing to get hugely excited about.
Roehm makes pretty things and to do that she relies upon items such as hellebores (a winter-blooming flower) which are quite hard for the average person to find.If her projects were less work or so dazzling that you didn't mind running all over East Overcoat to find the necessary components, then I'd be more enthusiastic about this book.As it stands, it's kind of a pricey picture book.I'd recommend Tracy Porter or Martha Stewart for a more hands-on experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars VIVE LA DIFFERENCE!
WHAT A TERRIFIC BOOK! This is"la creme de la creme" and i find it very difficult when other reviewers compare her product with Martha Stewart's line!It is as if we compare Opera with Andrea Bocelli, this collection of notebooks are so refined and so classic at the same time thati rediscover them each time i need them. The winter notebook giveswonderful ideas of presents for the guests and the flower arrangments areone of a kind. The level of artistry is demonstrated in each pages andplaces Carolyne Roehm as one of the most elegant designer of all. I alsoappreciate the fact that Carolyne Roehm understands the need of elegance inthe day-to-day life and that it doesn't have to be expensive. I'm a youngOpera singer and in my field you receive a lot of flowers and with thisbook i was able to create wonderful bouquets and appreciate another form ofart. I admire her flair and her sense of style, for me Carolyne Roehm isnot only a designer but a real artist who search for the very best in everydetail. ... Read more
