2-0 out of 5 stars Vague
I was not happy with all the items marked NA(not available), RI(recent issue), etc. The book, in my opinion, is not up to date & has very little value to someone who wants to price out their collection

5-0 out of 5 stars Collector Plates Guide
This book is one of the few out there that is of any value in regards to Collector Plates. Although it doesn't always give you an indication on todays current price, it does tell you what the issue prices was, and gives a guideline as to whether the plate is now worth more than what was paid for it, the same, or less. I deal in Collector Plates personally and as a business, and I do use the book as a reference tool pretty often. I do recommend this book as a general guideline to those interested in collecting or selling plates.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great reference for plate collectors!
This book is a great reference for plate collectors.Although an update is probably due, the book still offers information that holds in today's market. After pricing and selling some 200 collector plates, I have found the prices in the book to be "on the mark".Don't hesitate to add this to your resource collection. ... This was clearly a labor of love for co-authors Martinus and Rinker. Their mini-guide to ephemera collecting in the front of the book is more than worth the cost of the book. It is a joy to read. It provides anyone interested in collecting ephemera will an outstanding overview of the field.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Comprehensive Guide to the 20th Century's Top 500 China Patterns
As a fan of mismatched china, whose collection has been profiled in the New York Times, I recommend DINNERWARE OF THE 20TH CENTURY to both expert dealers and novices who love to entertain in style.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent reference book that I turn to every week.
As a novice dealer of new and antique dinnerware, this book has been an invaluable resource for identification and valuation. You will not learn a lot about any one manufacturer in this book because it focuses on the mostdesirable PATTERNS, featuring clear photos and basic pricing information. Ifind myself leafing through it often, even when I'm not looking for aparticular pattern. If you don't specialize in one manufacturer's wares, but buy and sell a lot of different patterns, you really shouldn't bewithout this handy reference book. I hope Mr. Rinker will team up withReplacements to produce Volume II - The Top 1000 Patterns, 501-1000. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Tells it like it is...
...or at least like he thinks it is. Harry Rinker doesn't hold punches and looks at the collectibles field without the prerequisite rose-colored glasses. He can be abrasive and hard, but he is often hardest on himself. He could easily be dismissed as a loving curmudgeon, but that would not do his book justice. His suggestions are no nonsense, but right on the mark. He even provides some common sense etiquette for collectors (who us?) While this book may seem perfect for the beginning collector, there are some true gems for those of us who've been around the block. He takes no crap and has no patience and I love his book so much the better for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun, informative guide
Author Harry Rinker has built his reputation as the Collector Inspector who helps collectors learn what is value and what is not: now hi how to think like a collector furthers the education, going beyond the usual price guide to tell amateurs how to learn what WILL become collectible in the future, how to judge an item's value, and how to collect today's bargains with their collectible future potential in mind. Rinker's forty-plus years of collecting and assessing values results in a large knowledge base and a fun take on the hobby of collecting which guides novices through the confusing world of the collector's mind. A fun, informative guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get what you pay for....
The old saying "you get what you pay for"definitely describes this book...Although very reasonably priced - there is little or no information in it as far as identification...It does however, give 250 patterns and breakdowns of pieces and prices that are now 8 years old - so not very accurate...If you're looking for strictly identification, this isn't the book for you...It barely scratches the surface, and you find yourself spending alot of time trying to find the pattern - only to find out its not in here....

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for quick reference
While it might not be the most complete reference on silverware, it does serve a purpose - and is economically priced. It lists the most popular patterns, and their most popular pieces.Measurements are given, and are very helpful.I have several silverware reference books, and use this one for quick look-ups, other reference books for more detail.

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting for some, useless for others
I have read several books pertaining to flatware, and many of them have a few strengths, and more weaknesses. This book does not break that trend.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Much and Not Enough
Unfortunately WW II Collectibles tries to cover it all but in eighty pages can only scratch the surface. This is not a book for serious collectors, maybe a introductory glimpse at the variety of items. Very limited detail on the depth of these items various models, date changes variations. Little is said about the vast flood of reproduction material out there especially for a book written in the 1990's. While it purports information on conservation of memorabilia little guidance is provided on storage preservation or display. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Happy Trails-riding down memory lane
Author Harry Rinker does a great job in bringing back the images of aforgotten hero, Hopalong Cassidy as portrayed by actor William Boyd. Hisbook recaptures, vividly, the massive Hoppy merchandise of the 1950's whenBoyd-a marketing genius- was a superstar to children the world over, including this Australian who, as a six year old during Boyd's Australiantour of 1954, was absolutely devastated that Hoppy didn't come west to WA.We got the Queen instead! This book, complete with lavish colour plates ofthe thousands of Hoppy items is not just a book for collectors of Cassidymemorabilia.Rinker's early chapters include the effect of Hoppy on him as achild, the evolution of Cassidy in novels films and television, the historyof Boyd's visionary marketing skills and an interview with his widow,Grace, who is still alive some 28 years after her husband's death. Thedurability of the film and TV Hoppy (vastly different from novelistClarence E Mulford's original character) lasted for 20 years thanks to Boyd fusing his own persona with that of the character. Boyd commenced in theCassidy role in 1935, as a middle aged actor of 40( making 66 films asCassidy over the next 13 years)and retired in 1954 as a TV and radiohero, internationally renowned. The transformation of Boyd into a hero ofchildren is well captured by Rinker- albeit briefly- although a moredetailed biography of William Boyd is long overdue. Boyd'smorals, responsiblity, concern and many acts of kindness towards his youthfulsupporters, as Hoppy, was an example of the very best America had tooffer-and America's best is very good indeed. That is why people who grewup in the middle of the 20th century will always recall with affection theblack-garbed knight gallant of their childhood - Bill Boyd as HopalongCassidy. ... Read more
