Well worth it!
I bought this book with the intent of it being a gift for someone interesteed in collecting "art books" who also likes fiber arts and quilting. I ended up keeping the book as I couldn't bear to give it away after opening it! It is Very readable, the excersies are understandable and useful, and by the end of each chapter you have a firm grasp of that aspect of 2 dimensional surface design. Several friends are waiting to borrow it from my library, but its one that I'll keep track of.

Excellent for quilters as well as M.C. Escher fans
This is the best book on tessellations I have seen. Since my main goal was to learn M.C. Escher's technique, I was first surprised to see that the author primarily deals with developing quilt patterns, from simple to complex. Onlythe last few chapters are dedicated to M.C. Escher's work. But I realized quickly that every page leads up to the next, teaching more and more intricate patterns until I was able to analyze Escher's work and see for myself how he developed the patterns.

Great Book
I recently purchased this book.
Beautiful Book for the Hand-Quilter!
This is a beautiful book with wonderful photographs of both vintage and contemporary quilts. There is a sufficient amount of instructional photographs also. If you have an appreciation for the classic art of hand-sewing, then Beyer's techniques can get you started. Beyer takes the reader from fabric choice to basic piecing, quilting and finishing, and everything between. The book also includes charming little quotes and delightful stories that give the reader a glimpse into the past lives of quilters and their quilts.

First Time Quilter
I recently decided to take up quilting as a hobby.I haven't touched a sewing machine since 7th grade, so I figured I'd give hand quilting a try.This book definitely gave me the confidence I needed to get started.The hand quilts Jinny has made are inspirational, and all the detailed instructions are perfect.I especially appreciate all the photographs that show stitches step-by-step.

Great color charts
I saw a video of Jinny's quilts and was impressed with her color coordination. The book shows many examples of "tumbling blocks" quilts which are really impressive. The book's color charts provide swatches that you can match at the store when buying fabrics. This makes it easy to coordinate colors to your home decor. (The original book I received did not contain the chart; but with a quick call to Amazon, a replacement was shipped to me within 2 days.)

Excellent Resource
Colour theory has always fascinated me and I have read many books about it.This is the first I have come across which deals so comprehensively with the art of using colour in patchwork.Some things I discovered I was doing instinctively, but this book has clarified the process and broadened out my understanding of what works and why.The format is easy to read, the exercises are fun to do whilst stretching the quilter to do things differently to what they have been accustomed.The inclusion of the colour cards in the back of the book is a real bonus and an excellent tool for playing with. I highly recommend this book as a tool for anyone interested in colour; I plan to give it as a gift to others who enjoy the craft.

Hand Piecing with Jinny Beyer
Top quality - which is what you would expect form Jinny Beyer.Top price - which you expect from her too.By time you buy the book, the CD and the tool you are out a bundle of cash that I would rather spend on fabric.But the 3 products compliment each other, the instructions are clear, the tool has the needed markings, the CD shows Ms Beyer in action.I'm slowly getting the hang of it and am pleased with the results. I just wish there was a package with all 3 (at a package price).

Actually 10 STARS!! Jinny Beyer is the Best!!(Period)!!
I loved this CD, I had purchasedthe book, which I also loved, and had taped a show where she demonstrated her technique on "Simply Quilts" which was very helpful also. But, with the CD you get to see everything Up Close, and she Demonstrates beautifully, No wonder she Teaches, and is referred to as the Master in Hand Quilting. At first, I fumbled, and felt extremely Awkward in holding the needle and fabric the way she did, but once I started to hold the eye end of my needle against the thimble like she does, with in 2 to 3 hours, I couldn't believe I ACTUALLY STARTED TO "HAND PIECE" JUST LIKE JINNY!! IT WAS LIKE IT "CLICKED" AND I WOULD NEVER, GO BACK TO THE SLOW AND UNEVEN WAY OF HAND PIECING AGAIN!! Also, for the reviewer, who couldn't find the Genesis Quilt Pattern, its right there under Genesis, with Templates and all. As well as all other 8 Lessons. But, I can't stress enough, as long as you keep the eye end of the needle against your thimble and hold the fabric taught at all times as your moving along between those 2 fingers like she demonstrates, you too will be piecing faster and faster, and more accurately! just like Jinny!! with in very little time!!

Very Nice DVD and pattern!
I loved this DVD!It was set up with very clear menu choices on the left, and the videos were wonderful.After reading the previous review, I was concerned that it was going to be complicated or incomplete, but it wasn't at all difficult.The previous reviewer said that she could only find one video and no pattern, but there were several videos in the "How To"video section, and the pattern was listed on the menu on the left as "Genesis Quilt".Very easy, very thorough, and I wish that all were as forthright as this one.I'm going to really enjoy working with this in my class. ... A Must Have Reference..
I've been quilting for over ten years now, and have run into only two books that were so comprehensive for referencing quilt patterns and name.One was 101 Patchwork Quilt Patterns by Ruby McKim, and The Quilter's Album of Blocks and Borders by Jinny Beyer.
2nd quilt book I ever bought.
The first was Ruby McKim's. A must for all quilters!

Cute and fun ideas
Oh - these are too cute! First, there were fabric boxes and bowls - which I love! Now, try your hand at fabric balls.

Challenging herself to find a way to incorporate into a new quilt a paisley design that had all the right colors but whose pattern was too pretty to obscure, noted quilter and teacher Jinny Beyer was inspired to invent the unusual and striking soft-edge piecing technique. StartChristmas projects now with Jinny's wonderful book!
If you want to make some easy things for Christmas, this is the book for quilters (and non-quilters alike) to check out.I have it and love it!I've also bought it for Christmas gifts.(The book looks pretty on thecoffeetable at Christmas, too.) Jinny shows you how to make table runners,placemats, tree skirts, wearable skirts, etc., using border prints.Shemakes Colonial Williamsburg-like decorations using pine cones, apples, andnuts--and from things she finds in her backyard.You can almost smell theapple cider simmering on the fireplace.There are instructions forbeautiful quilts as well.Her old-fashioned country home is decorated withthese quilts for the holidays, as well as wonderful antiques.It was funto take a peek inside Jinny's home...one of the biggest names in thequilting world!
