Not an old book, but out of date
Nancy Zieman is a Baby Lock dealer, so this book is heavily slanted in that direction.If you have a Baby Lock, it might be very useful.It is full of very pretty pictures, but not all that much useful information.We beginners need a book that is not an advertisement for a certain kind of machine.What is really needed is a "Machine Embroidery for Dummies" type book since the introduction of the Singer Futura and Quantum Futura machines which run off your computer have made it possible for so many more of us to afford embroidery machines.It's a whole new ballgame, and there are going to be a whole lot more players than ever before!Save your money and keep looking for a book with more substance.

Best Book "Ever"
I have purchased many machine embroidery books.This one by far is the best in every way.This is a must have for every machine embroidery person. Nancy Zieman did a great job on this one.

Not a good bet for the beginning quilter
This is one of the first quilting books I purchased and I did not like it. In the section describing supplies, it seems more like an advertisement for the brands she uses and is sponsored by. Someone buying supplies following only her directions may spend money than they truly must in order to begin quilting. Not for the novice
Not a bad book -lots of nice projects -but instructions could be clearer -and they seem to like to "advertise" certain brands and products in this book, instead of giving alternative (and cheaper!) methods.Still, I found this book to be enjoyable and will certainly be making a project or two -the instructions for quilting with fleece were particularly interesting to me.

Geared toward kids but good for all beginners

The best fitting book I have seen!!!
My mother-in-law gave this book to me several years ago when I had asked about enlarging patterns.When I first read through it, I hadn't done much sewing, so the concepts she covered were a little over my head.Over the next year I started sewing some, and ended up making costumes for the Christmas play at church.This book was my guide book!!!So many people think you have to have the correct bust measurement for a pattern to fit, but with this book, Nancy guides you to find a pattern that fits through your shoulders (the hardest thing is to fit through the shoulders)-she shows you how to enlarge or decrease a bust, waist, hips, how to compensate for so many hard-to-fit exceptions we all have. These changes sound hard, but there really very easy. I have taken an original '47 pattern and changed it to more today's measurements, and it worked out wonderfully! I highly recommend this book!

Really useful book.
Great tips, for sewing machine and serger, for a reality-based sewer.(So many books are for people whose lives seem to consist of nothing but sewing, not for the rest of us.)When she says she has tips to speed things up, she just doesn't mean fast - she means fast and thorough.So it's not only fast, it's better.The only problem I had was sometimes the illustrations should have been numbered to coordinate with directions and weren't, or else there were steps not illustrated (though well described) so I was sewing "by faith in the word" of the directions and it turned out right.It is well illustrated and there is always something to learn and try on almost every page.

Anything by Nancy is wonderful!
I've been sewing for 40 years.I read this manual like a novel.It was so helpful to me to becoming more organized.I teach young girls to sew, and teaching the organization methods by Nancy has helped them see how much easier it is to sew when you have everything you need in one place. NO more looking for the missing buttons, zippers, etc. Nancy is such a talented individual and I'm grateful for her expertise.Anyone who buys this book will benefit from it.Enjoy!
