Wondefull book.
I tested this book down in the wilderness of the Baja California peninsula and it worked out just fine. Very good information and photos.

Overall, a good book
Overall, "Baja California Plant Field Guide" is a good book forthe naturalist. However, its design may not help the begginer since itassumes that the readear has a well developed knowledge in plantmorphology. Introductions to Baja California and its bioregions are verygood but the section for plant identification may cause some trouble to thenaturalist that is trying to identify a new plant species (unless it is acommon one). If the book is re-edited it might be good to incorporate aformat similar to some bird guides and particularly, newer plant guides.

A must-have resource for container gardening
This book has all you need to get started on container gardening. It transformed the way I looked at our small, sunny deck.I'm amazed at all the veggies and herbs I've been able to grow in containers, following their advice.

A great, well-written reference
If you're only going to buy one book on container gardening, make it this one.The writers are very experienced gardeners who write in a very accessible, matter-of-fact tone.They cover everything from preparing the soil, starting from seed to buying transplants and arranging the plants.

Good find for apple growers, or potential growers!
I think this a very well written, well laid out book that could help you get started in the apple orchard business. The thing that I find most interesting about this book is that you don't need to be dedicated to organic methods to learn an enormous amount from this book. It is full of general information to aid in the whole process of growing apples.

Building Your Own Greenhouse (Greenhouse Basics)
Pretty simple to follow instructions and drawings. Not the most exciting book of its kind I have read recently, but some good information and alternative building ideas.

A good book that covers all the different info on grass.However, none of the informative paragraphs dig too deep.

Too Basic!
This book is really basic.I found that "How to Make Big Money Mowing Small Lawns" as a better resource.It had easy to understand charts. Simplistic pricing method. Simple to understand and extremely helpful/useful in earning extra income. This book offers unique and insightful ideas to help get you off the ground. It gives real life experience of the author will enable them to have insight into business that is fundamental to becoming entrepreneurial.An updated version is available at librarydepot.com

Very practical guide to energy efficient food storage
No matter what your location or how much space you have, the Bubels are likely to have a root cellar option that will work for you.I've got the first edition, but I'm sure the second edition is just as good if not better.Detailed explanations of how to store vegetables and fruits without electricity with specific temperature and humidity recommendations for each variety.Many different cold storage designs.Good photos and diagrams.Well worth the money.

Time to Pay Attention
I'm actually studying to be an Urban Planner in school.New Urbanism was a concept that greatly interested me because its principles focus around SMART and RESPONSIBLE planning.
Community is not Architecture
I grew up in what new urbanists would probably call a paradise. It was a real community in which neighbours were really neighbours. People did sit on their verandahs and converse with their neighbours on the street. There was an understanding that one could borrow things if the owner wasn't using them. It was considered polite to tell the owner if he was there but if he was away one could just borrow the thing and tell him when he came home if one was still using it. In short it was everything new urbanism wants. This was in a moderately large city in Canada. Every library in the country should have this book!

Nice pictures
This book is not only a great picture book, but it also provides wonderful descriptions of the Japanese gardens featured - succinct and informative.If you like landscaping with the Japanese feel, you'll enjoy this book.

The book is excellent but the dust cover was torn obviously before despatch as the packaging was good.
Beyond the basics, Japanese Garden Book
I've been through a lot of Japanese gardening books, and many of been a little repetitive, covering the basic design elements and what not. Mizuno has put together a great "Intermediate" read once you've had enough of the basics. The pictures are some of the best available of authentic Japanese gardens, and the captions are short and to the point but with just enough plant identifications to be useful to someone in their planning stage.

Excellent coffee table book
This book has some excellent pictures of treehouses. I love it! It is one of my favorite treehouse books. It is not for someone looking to build a treehouse; for that, i recommend "Home Tree Home", by Peter Nelson. Back in 1999, I built my own treehouse, primarily using ideas from "Home Tree Home" and prior treehouse building experience. I lived in it for 5 years.

I've looked for this "original" the treehouse book by david stiles, and can't find it.... WHO SAYS TREEHOUSES ARE JUST FOR CHILDREN!
What a delightful book filled with mystical wonder and beautiful photography.We generally associate treehouses with children and the exuberance of youth, but....I want one!My own space, a private place to recapture lost youth, a place to dream, recollect thoughts, be at one with the stars and the universe - how magical life could be.There is no question my talented husband could build one; though not a professional, he truly is talented at that sort of thing as a hobby.But, there is a chance I would appear in the backyard on a bright summer's morn, only to hear him exclaim, "Treehouse?You wanted a treehouse? I thought you said "birdhouse," and then I do have a problem because how would I ever fit through that that tiny little round hole in the centre? Even if he did get the plans right, there is also the off-chance my family would insist on building a safety net around the treehouse, just in case dear old granny fell OUT of her tree!Possibly, they would insist the resident counsellor also have her own "branches checked out," just in case she was missing a few twigs off the upper branch.Read more

Buy only a used book
I bought this book through the mail and I wont tell you how much I spent on it.It really does have some interesting facts.A lot of repetitive ideas that can be confusing some times.Some of the tonics and things that I tried made my garden worse.In fact, it burnt some of my plants to the ground!Some of his recipes are confusing.Such as: he recommeds everything in this 20 gallon hose end sprayer.I went to many garden centers and everyone laughed at me.Nobody carries anything that large.that is for a garden the size of Texas!Who are these people that the tonics worked for?Come to my house and help me, then.

Great Green book of Garden Secrets
This is a wonderful and practical book.I tried two of the receipes in the book and had instant improvement in the appearance of my indoor and outdoor plants.I will be getting several copies for my gardening friends and family.

This book answers all of my questions about produce: the organic factor, (which tells you whether a certain product is sprayed heavily with toxins when you cannot purchase organic), nutrition details, seasonality, what to look for when buying, preparation, and uses.

The Canabible is dank
If you love nugget then this is the book for you.It has every thing you'll ever need to know about earths sweetest plat, cannabis. If you need to learn more about how to grow weed or even how to smoke or what to smoke out of then you need this book.But if you're just some one who loves chronic like me you will probly just sit there somkeing a blunt reading about the dankest plants on the earth for hours. This is a delightful book that promises to deliver loads of fantasy and fun for anyone in need of a rustic place to rest, relax, and retreat from the speed and stress of modern living. The Stiles provide more than 20 step-by-step plans for low-cost outdoor buildings, among them a grape arbor, a hillside hut, a water gazebo (floating!), a log cabin, tree houses, a wigwam, a garden pavilion, a yurt, and a river raft. A bit of individual creativity can make any of the plans described and diagrammed into unique personal statements or fantasies. Many of the plans are so simple they can be built in a few hours or in less than a day, and most do not require high levels of carpentry or building skills (though all will be useful as "learning projects" for the uninitiated). I can build that!
I'm glad there are no photos in this book. Get an imagination!The drawings are fun and lively.They also give important aspects of the project that a photo rarely illustrates.Now I know how (in detail) to construct a tipi, or put together a simple door or roof that really would hold up to nature.The primitive shelters section is great.So are the tree houses. Not that all of these projects are practical homes, but now I have ideas for that "fort" in the back acre my kids are bugging me about.Thanks for a great book to just read, or get us outside with a saw and hammer.

creative ideas, not for children
These are true rustic retreats for adults. Just know this is not for children's tree houses or play houses. These are very rustic retreats, such as a lean-to to use as a nature retreat, or for the shack-like building the size of a garden shed for sleeping in as a weekend getaway,(sans electricity or toilets). I don't get why you put a beautiful photo on the cover of your book and all 2nd rate hand drawn pictues inside. It's deceptive! Won't help you with Country Home ideas. Maybe good for a kids Fort or a Bowhunting stand... ... Read more

gardening when it counts
I own Steve's previous book and have gardened for years using his method. This book explains in great detail how plants grow and survive down to the line drawings of root structure for most vegetables. That helped me to understand just how important it is to space my plants correctly. His description of how to manage the soil before planting is great! I can't wait to get out in the garden and amaze my neighbors!!

A good, basic, orgainic vegtable gardening book
This is an excellent vegetable gardening book. Although Mr. Solomon has moved to Tasmania and now expands his scope to much of the English speaking world; if you have read his "Growing Vegetables West of the Cascades", you will find much that is familiar here.If not, you will find excellent information on seeds, where to buy them, how to prepare the garden bed and plant them, how to choose and maintain quality tools, composting and fertilizing, pest and disease problems, irrigation, and some specific plant growing advice.
