5-0 out of 5 stars Demystifies house plant care
I've had this book for about ten years, and have used it more than any of my many other plant reference books. Tons of plants, great illustrations, concise, well organized. Any time a new plant enters my household I use this book to get better acquainted.Just came to Amazon thinking it would be a great gift for my friend and was disappointed to see that its out of stock (or out of print?). I hope I can track down a copy somewhere else...

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable
The best resource book I've found. Concise, excellent pictures, easy to use. Many of my fellow house plant owners wish they had this book on their shelves. Hope a reprint is coming soon.

5-0 out of 5 stars The bast book for house plant hobbyists I have ever seen.
I have used this book for at least fifteen years as a guide to my greenhouse management and have found it indespensible. My son has just built a small greenhouse. I'd like to give him a copy, so I hope thepublisher will reprint it. It is invaluable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tempting Tropicals: 175 Irresistible Indoor Plants
Tempting Tropicals by HortResources member Ellen Zachos is clear and concise, easy to read and understand even by those who do not have a degree in horticulture. It is a great reference for 175 tropical plants that are not grown as often as they should be. Each plant profile contains light, temperature, fertilization, and propagation information. There is also a section on winning attributes alongside each plant profile that will make it easier to decide if that is a plant you wish to grow. Ellen Zachos has taken all her own photographs unless otherwise stated.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner's book
As a very novice gardener, I needed a book that covered the basic of houseplant care. Well, this is it. I especially like the fact that it is full of color photos.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great overview book!
As a novice gardener I've perused a lot of books and usually they're either really wordy, use terms that a college professor might, or just don't quite have what I need. This book is a really nice overview of everything related to indoor gardening, with lots of photos to explain what they're talking about or doing.I especially love a photographic section on plant problems, diseases and bugs - a lot of the books out there 'explain' what to look for while this one actually shows an afflicted plant.I recommend this book for anyone who's looking to get further into the indoor plants (without actually looking for a degree...). ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A complete book on miniatures - quality product
The book is full of all sorts of ideas, though it was small on "found" objects for furniture making. As I am new to miniatures, this book had all sorts of ideas for the novice to the master craftsman.Of course the book hawks back to the 70's and the color of pictures reflect this...the ideas were still innovative and creative.Great detail to every aspect of the dollhouse, including lighting, room arrangements and period pieces.I look forward to making the beautiful furniture featured in this "old school" book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful reference book!
This book has a short "introductory" section that goes over the basics.I've seen a number of books that have more general information than this one. However, I think this book does an outstanding job of giving very specific information on each plant in its listing of 100+ plants.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book
This is the most easy to read & comprehend book about houseplants that I've ever seen. Each plant is shown in color and rated on an very easy - very difficult basis, which is extra important when deciding on which plants to purchase. The book tells you commom problems of each plant and tips & hints on how to care for them.I check with this book before I purchase ANY plant!5-0 out of 5 stars We now have plants that are thriving!

4-0 out of 5 stars It's okay. Some great information, but cluttered.
Book contains about 154 pages and is divided into 6 sections. The sections discuss Light, Artificial Light, HID Lamps, Reflectors, Setup, and Electricity Basics. Appendices include Radiant Energy, Requirements of Plants, Troubleshooting, Types of Lamps, Glossary, and Index.4-0 out of 5 stars Getting bright before starting grow lights
"Gardening Indoors with HID Lights" isa cross between a technical manuscript and an How To book for beginners. With a bachelors in cellular biology, this book was perfect for me.It explained how plants react to different parts of the light spectrum for different parts of their growth cycle. It steered me away from what would have been an ineffective fluorescent to maintain my citrus trees during the snowy winter.Instead the authors skillfully discuss the relationship of cost, watts, and effective indoor growth area forwhat is essentially artificial sunlight. As a novice, I decided not to take all their advice about an indoor lighting system, since I wasn't sure it would really work as advertised. But the practical science which is woven throughout this book would have been an equally effective guide for a much more elaborate set up.The salesperson where I ended up purchasing my HID system did not recommend this book since it was "too technical."I myself would recommend this book to anyone who studies their gardening and purchases other garden books.A high intensity discharged lighting system will cost several hundred dollars. My system had no information with it guide me in it's use.Thisbook neatly fills the gap. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Trust my review not the others!!
Too simplistic. Too many pictures and not enough information. Even the info given is not detailed enough. Many common household plants mot even listed ex.the snake plant. I purchased this book on the great reviews and this is the first time I'm very disappointed. Trust me and save your money.

3-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book for beginners.
Easy-Care Guide to Houseplants is a beautiful book to look at, but it is for the beginner. The "how to" section does go into detail with beautiful pictures showing you each step of the way.The decorating ideas look nice, but it would be more practical if they were silk plants. The placement of the plants is very impractical, either the plants don't get enough light or watering the plants would be a hugh chore.5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have Reference Book!
I have yet to met someone who wouldn't appreciate a healthy indoor plant. This book is excellent - it's concise, informative and written in a way even the most inexperienced plant owner can understand. It's worth buying just for the pictures alone!Come on, bring nature indoors! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Introduction To Growth And Care Of Bonsai Trees
I recently bought a Juniper bonsai and have become very interested in these exquisite miniature plants. Bonsai is the reproduction of natural tree forms in miniature which increase in beauty and value as they mature over the years. I am now thinking about purchasing another and want to learn as much as possible about the growth and proper care for these Japanese-style miniature plantings. I browsed through bookstores and also asked a friend, who has numerous healthy bonsais, for some book suggestions. I finally purchased "Bonsai: Nature in Miniature." A few people recommended it as a bonsai book that is especially designed for beginners. It is also an excellent book to accompany a bonsai given as a present. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 50 Unique Wreath Designs
No two wreaths are alike, yet they are all beautiful. Each reflects the character and ability of an individual - romantic, vivacious, formal, or gentle - and conveys the refreshing uniqueness inherent in each of us. ~Teddy Colbert
4-0 out of 5 stars Great project for the "crafty gardener"!
Nothing makes a garden project book better than glossy photos and clear step-by-step instructions. The Living Wreath has both! This Martha (Stewart, that is) approved activity developed by Teddy Colbert, is an exciting way to look at "container" planting. Although the book sometimes seems to be a vehicle for promoting Teddy's living wreath products, including tools, materials and completed wreaths, her products are not necessary to create your own living wreath. Teddy's technique was created with succulent plant materials and the majority of the "how-to" section focuses on creating a succulent living wreath however, there are also inspirational examples of adaptions that include such creative ideas as a fresh herb "clock" for the kitchen, a living strawberry wreath, a fresh spring greens wreath (put it in the center of your dining table and let everyone "pick" their own salad!) plus several flowering wreaths with petunias and impatiens or a beautiful mix of flowering annuals. 50 wreaths are pictured in all. A great book for the "crafter" in ever gardener. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!
This will be the 8th time I have started to write this review today! I can't quite sum up into words how much I am enjoying this book! I love plants-- unfortunately; I know nothing about caring for them and keeping them healthy. I bought this book because I recently moved into a new town home and thought I would really love to incorporate some plants into all the new space our new home has to offer, but in a tasteful way. The ideas in this book are spectacular!! The book opens with several gorgeous photographs. The way the chapters are organized is wonderful! There is a chapter for different theme rooms (i.e.: Bold and Contemporary, Asian Fusion Style, Modern Mediterranean), a chapter for color and scent (what plants give off a full fragrant scent and what gives off light fresh scents, full page layouts of different plants of the same color), a chapter for shape and texture, a chapter for different rooms in the house (plants best suited for bathrooms, bedrooms, etc.),a chapter for choosing pots and containers, a chapter for lighting, a chapter for plant care, a plant maintenance guide to use for quick reference, an address and directory listing to some of the products listed in the book and lastly, an index for all the plants listed in the book. I plan on giving several of these to friends as gifts this year! The best thing about this book is that it isn't one of those books that you can admire the products used and never replicate them due to hard to find materials. The pots are all fairly easy to find (lots of them look like they are from Ikea, which you can do a telephone order for, some are terracotta pots that were spray painted silver and they look like metal! and some are big ceramic pots that you can often pick up at flea markets, yard sales or even stores like garden ridge or home depot). This is a great book for anyone looking to incorporate plants into their home!

5-0 out of 5 stars Plants as design elements:Excellent beginner book.
Some people are into 'hip.'Some people are not.Don't let this title throw you:This book is not your pass-card to the ranks of the coolest of the Cool. It's about plants. It's also about pots and light and color and space.Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars BIG Disappointment
While the size and scope of this book is impressive, the quality of the prints is poor, at least in comparison with the wonderful prints found in the book "Botanical Prints From the Hortus Eystettensis"I purchased the Besler Florilegium expecting to find prints of the same caliber but they lack the detail and antique look of the prints found in the Hortus Eystettensis. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent gift for Besler print owners
I purchased this book as a gift for someone who owns a Besler print. In fact, they own the print that is on the cover of this book. The large thick book is a very lovely display of Besler's famous prints, organized by the seasons in which the plants he observed in the garden grew.It would make a good gift to anyone, especially gardeners with large empty coffee tables.
