1-0 out of 5 stars You can judge this book by it's cover
This may be the worst Bonsai Book ever written. The tree on the front cover is a prime example of what a Bonsai tree is not supposed to look like. The tree is a young Ficus with no taper to the trunk. The branches grow straight up and the style is all wrong. Most importantly are the horrible scars on the branches from leaving the wires on too long. The book is very generic and really doesn't give enough information to create a heathly and well trained tree.If you have shown enough interest in Bonsai to pursue more information on the Art of Bonsai then you have already outgrown this book.Avoid this book, and buy a tree instead.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introductory indoor bonsai book
As stated in the title this book is about indoor bonsai, or more precisely how to grow and maintain tropical bonsai indoors. It doesn't contain much info on non tropical species, which are more appropriate to growing outdoors. There are many beautiful pictures that will inspire the beginning bonsai artist to create masterpieces of their own.Highly recommended beginners book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kind of Dull
While the book offers information on some indoor and partially indoorspecies, I was looking for a book with more species information.Thepictures were not all that great and the book in general appeared boring. It was more concise that what I was looking for.The book lacked manyspecies that I was interested in, such as: Camphor, Baobab, Banyan, Coffee,Bald Cypress, and Buttonwood. I have ordered Bonsai in your Home: An IndoorGrower's Guide, and hopefully that will have the information I need. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of ideas and basic houseplant info
I have several books on houseplants, but this one is a little bit different.Other houseplant books are an "encyclopedia" of the different kinds of plants and also includes information on care, propagation, etc. This particular book doesn't go into detail on very many specific plants, so if that's what you are looking for, I would suggest "The House Plant Encyclopedia" by Jantra/Kruger or John Evans's "The Complete Book of Houseplants".

5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a guide, a resource for every gardener.
Despite the books' massively long title, it's actually an easy-to-read, well organized reference guide to plant selection, propagation, care and maintenance, as well listing of hundreds of plants.Like many Taylor's guides, this one is profusely illustrated with lovely photographs of plants that will not only inform, but inspire you to get gardening.Almost 350 pages in length, there's not a lot of filler in here, rather, it's packed with lists, glossaries, appendices that will answer most questions any beginning and most intermediate gardeners might have in regards to perennials, annuals, shrubs, flowering trees and vines. If you want to landscape your garden and not sure of what plants to work with, you may want to start here!

5-0 out of 5 stars My very favorite gardening book
I have many good gardening books but this is the one I refer to constantlyand suggest to my friends. Arranged alphabetically, the mini-chapter oneach plant contains all the information I need to make decisions onpurchasing, choosing a site, planting, growing tips, and propagating. Thefinal section in each chapter suggests companion plants that mix well andlike the same conditions. To top it off, this is a beautiful book withexcellent photographs of the entire plant in its natural surrounding. GETTHIS BOOK.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy -to-use, outstanding home reference
This is the best guide to home gardening I have seen, combining ease of use with authoritative information. The brief notes are to the point, the photographs are excellent, information is easy to find, and the fullentries are exceptionally well done. A pleasure to read, this work willsurely become the standard reference on home gardening. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
I purchased this book used.It is absolutely wonderful including a multitude of projects with easy to understand directions, recommendations and suggestions. The entire 'manual' is chock-full with beautiful color photos.Projects range from arranging to terrariums to bonsai to optimal placement, to plant care. This book is indispensable to someone looking for a few fun projects or someone who just wants to add a gem of a plant book to their shelf.Happy Reading!

5-0 out of 5 stars Spawns creativity while providing a good resource
Whether you want to learn a little about hydroculture or terrariums to just your everyday houseplant or hanging basket, it's a very good overlook at different types and styles of indoor gardening. This is a great book that not only provides information on growing plants and caring for them, but also gives tips on where and how to place them in various environments. Also, there are interesting craft ideas thrown in for those who want to get creative with their plants and flowers.

5-0 out of 5 stars very thorough and easy to understand
This is an excellent choice for someone who wants to learn about plants. It includes a good number of plants and their care and also has excellent information about forcing bulbs, propogating by air layering, etc.The directions for the care of specific plants are easy to understand--no mention is made of the number candlelight whatevers you need to grow them.Overall I think this is an excellent book for anyone interested in indoor gardening. The pictures are nice too. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars CD Provides A New Way to Learn About Hostas
I love Hostas, and I love this CD-ROM. There are so many hostas out there and this CD talks about just some of them. It is really neat to see photos and videos where Allan Armitage tells you stories about some of the hostas he's grown over the years. And if you didn't know, Allan Armitage is a Hosta-Nut! 4-0 out of 5 stars Really Fun CD!
Wow!I had no idea there were so many hostas in the world.I really enjoyed learning about the different varieties, sizes and colors. The absolute best thing about this CD, though, is Allan's wit and natural presentation style.Highly recommend this CD.Great gift item!

4-0 out of 5 stars A little bit of everything
This book is about three inches thick and offers information on almost everything you could possibly ever bring into your house (plant-wise that is).It has in-depth chapters about orchids, cacti, vining plants, and other sub-groups that you'll see in stores; plant problems, propagation methods, general care, and MUCH more. It's the book I flip to first when I need an answer.NOT a beginner's type book, but full of info for those who want to dig deeper into their hobby.LOTS of reading here, so it's not for the faint of heart, but it has lots of pictures and drawings to help out too.Highly recommended. ...
