Great intro
I got this book from the library and was pleasantly surprised at the details and useful, practical advice on conceiving and executing a japanese garden. The book contains detailed instructions on how to lay out, build, select plans for, and maintain a Japanese-inspired garden. It talks about rocks, rock gardening, ponds, water plants and fish, paths, stepping stones, gates, and plants and plant selections.I found it really helpful in getting ideas to give to our landscape architect.I would recommend this book for anyone that is going to actually build (rather than just enjoy looking at pictures of) a japanese garden.

A GREAT Pool Book
This is a great pool book if you're contemplating building a classy pool with beautiful landscaping.

Nice pictures but..
...there is absolutely nothing on construction. It's a coffee table book at best!

The best book out!
Not just great photos and ideas.This book give details on all the pools, including geographical location, size, depth, color of plaster, type of coping and decking/terrace, etc.Although there are a lot of great books out with wonderful pictures, this one doesn't have all tropical pools, which is nice for those of us who don't have a jungle of palms!Very nice designs for those who live in temperate climates or with more traditional yards/homes. Art and Soul of the Islamic Garden
I have been waiting for this book for several months; now that I have it in hand, it exceeds my expectations.It is visually AND intellectually stimulating. I have a particular interest in the symbolism of the Islamic garden and Clark not only gives an in depth description of this, but also puts it in context--historic and contemporary.This is also an excellent guide through the component parts of the garden.The chapter on The Prince of Wales' Carpet Garden is fascinating.

A treasure of a book!
This is a book full of the breath of life. Like the great gardens described, it can be appreciated in many ways. At once a collection and a pilgrimage, combining East and West, always with a touch of humor, it makes you feel the joy of being alive!

Not a cofee-table book, a SERIOUS BOOK!!!
This book impressed me with the amount of information on garden design, styles and history it has. No, it is not a coffee table book with pretty pictures, but a serious study on the history of garden design. The pictures in it are black-and-white, as well as all diagrams and plans. It is an excellent reference book for students of landscape design and garden lovers alike!!!

Unattainable Beauty!
Succession Planting for Year-round Pleasure is a fantastic book by Christopher Lloyd, who has previously written quite a few, which are also excellent. The photos are among the most beautiful I have ever seen, and I give this book my highest honors. But perhaps it deserves some demerit on the grounds of impracticality or even depressing unattainability.

Normally I don't get into gardening books...I'm a sucker for the pictures, but find the text boring.

It should be named something like the "Essential Math Reference Book for Farmers, Landscapers, Golf Course Superintendants, Nursery Managers etc."What a wonderful and easy to use reference book for anyonedealing with the frustrating world of area measurements,volume/fertilizer/pesticide/irrigation/seeding rate calculations, andspreader and spayer calibration. Disney Secrets Still Secret
I was very excited when I received this book; however, the excitement was short lived.The information in the book is very basic.For example, the book devotes two pages to explaining the USDA zones and another two on how to plant a tree. About the only secret I saw were the directions for making the floating planters from Epcot and since I don't have a pond they were interesting, but not too useful.
Worth the wait!
After many delays, this book finally arrives in glorious hardcover format. If you've ever been to a Disney park, you'll appreciate that a lot of effort has gone into making it bright and beautiful and green all the year 'round. This book is far more than just a collection of photos showcasing these gardens, although it does serve that function in part, but it is really more of a gardening guide for the reader. It isn't quite like your traditional garden book either, but it does provide handy hints as to how to make your own potting mix, when the right time to plant is and so forth.

Great book if you want to know how to build structures like gazebos, walls, fences,pools, ramps,decks,irrigation systems,etc. It shows you the step by step with photos and drawings.

Spectacular Houses in a Spectacular Setting
Go north of San Francisco along the coast for a hundred miles or so. Buy 4,000 acres of timber and grazing land. You'll find that you have quite a setting for a housing development. Add rules that say how the house must fit into the land and the scenery and you have quite a housing development in quite a setting. Beginning in 1963 this is just what happened.
