The most sensual and aesthetically pleasing garden book ever
Many garden books I use for reference. The Beckoning Path is a total aesthetic experience. The photography is some of the most stunning I have ever seen, incredible compositions of form and texture and color. When Iopen the book I enter into Ted Nierenberg's forest garden: I can smell thedamp moss, hear the water coursing over rocks, feel the stillness of fallensnow. I have given away five copies of this book to gardening friends. Iwould give many more if I could find more copies, but it is now out ofprint. Great book for creating stone garden projects
This large paperback book may only be 96 pages but it is incredibly detailed and the color photos and illustrations are excellent. For each project the author covers types of materials, site preparation, design, estimating quantities, measuring, as well as step by step instructions on building the project. Projects covered: Garden Walls, Arches, Patios, Paths, Steps, Planters, Rock Gardens, Seats and Tables, and Ponds. A section on "Small Weekend Projects" shows how to make a mounting for a sundial, paving around trees, laying stepping stones, and building a patio planter out of rocks. A great guide book

The book is clearly organized by the size of the plant, starting from the smallest (ground covers) and working its way up to largest plants in a tropical garden (trees over 50'). Along with beautiful color photographs, the physical characteristics of each plant, light and moisture requirements, preferred soil, wind, drought, and salt tolerance are all given. My husband is a construction type but I'm not and the deck was myproject to plan. This book was great! I looked at a couple of dozen deck books and this was the only one that explained how to build a deck in a way that mycontruction-impaired mind could comprehend. Highly Recommended - Especially for Newbies
I admit it, I know nothing about gardening.I just figured out the difference between an annual and a perennial.This book is amazing.It's simple and easy to use.The book is mostly pictures but there's also descriptions of what plants are included in the pictures.You can also learn how to draw bed layouts.If you're new to gardening, pick this one up for some great idea.

A fellow golf course architect makes comments.
Mike Hurdzan's Golf Greens is not an easy read straight through from cover to cover because it is highly technical.But I did it and I'm glad.It searches the subject in far greater depth of detail and pictorially than anyone has ever done before. Great coverage!And it doesn't always simply "sell the conventional line". I learned lots from it, though before thought I was already pretty well experienced in this important matter.I recommend this book to all golf course developers, contractors, maintenance superintendents and other golf course architects for learning much more about golf greens. ... Put Back this Front Yard Book
I love elaborate front yard plantings, but this book just isn't the inspirational guide that Liz Primeau's similar "Front Yard Gardens: Growing More Than Grass" is. Ohhhhh! Excellent!!
I can't begin to say how much I adore this book!! I'm telling you now, if you read this book from cover to cover & allow yourself to digest each & every picture, you'll never look at a front yard the same again. Literally, American is stuck in a rut. I look up & down my street, & all I see are blank, bland, boring lawns!! Wretch! This book has made me realize something that took me directly out of that silly, traditional mindset: I PAY AS MUCH FOR MY FRONT YARD AS I DO MY BACKYARD! This book has motivated me to "reclaim" my front yard for my own use, & I can't wait to have it all in & done! It won't be my neighbor's front yard anymore! It won't look like public domain anymore!!!

Landscape Plants for Dry Regions is a winner!
I own several desert landscaping and gardening books and this book is by far the best of the bunch.It is organized according to species alphabetically, which makes it easy to look up plants.It is comprehensive...I have never failed to find the specific plant, bush or tree I am researching.Plus, full color photographs of each plant make it easy to pick and choose for visual effect.

Great reference for beginners
We're building a new home in Arizona and this book has served as a wonderful guide to my husband and myself in the planning of our landscaping. The photos are clear and great examples of what the plants will look like. Plants are listed alphabetically by scientific name, but there's a handy cross-reference in the back to make it easier. The most helpful tool is under each plant's description where it clearly lists possible problems and maintenance needed. One thing I wish it did include are citrus trees, but I suppose they were left out because they are not native plants (but then again, I didn't think palms were either, and they are listed).

Best book for choosing plants
All plants discussed have a color photo right next to the text, and the text provides all key information in specific format.This makes it easy to compare plants, or find specific information about a plant you're interested in.The book goes into detail on different varieties also, e.g. there are color pictures and text on each of several varieties of mesquite - very helpful when you're trying to choose the right one for your landscape.A very few of the photos are poor quality, but any picture here is worth a thousand words. This is the only book I have seen for this climate (I live in Phoenix) that attempts to provide this volume of information with full color photos.Definitely worth the money. ... Read more

The Granite Garden
