On the plus side, this book was cheap and a quick read. However, I found very little tangible, useful information in it. Seemed to be mostly common sense stuff.

It Helped Me Clean Out My Home Office
I found the advice on the home office section especially practical and useful. This book has a lot of energy and it inspired my decision-making and creative decluttering. I took some of their ideas and used others as a springboard for my own. Now I need a book on how to organize my diet, so that will work as well ...

Will help you no matter how big your space is...
I just moved into a tiny apartment and brought with me this book, which had helped me with my "spring cleaning" a few years ago. The organizing tips helped me tremendously to configure my new space -- highly recommended for anyone who wants to ban OR prevent clutter.

Handy Cleaning Reference
If you've ever wondered how to remove a stain, clean your carpet, or de-lime your shower, it's because you don't have this book.I bought Aslett's book a few years ago and still keep it handy as a reference guide to cleaning procedures.His recommendations on getting the house to clean itself have saved me hours of housework.
A Very Useful Book!
This book is the most useful book on cleaning I have read. The author owns a cleaning business and shares tips on how to very efficiently and effectively both clean and de-clutter your home.He also discusses ways to keep the house from getting dirty to start with.I've used his tips for years now and have just re-read my copy of this and refreshed my memory [and got even more ideas!]. This book will save your sanity!

Very helpful
Great little book. I bought it here after checking it out one day in a bookstore. It had all these logical little tips in it. It goes room by room, and the best part for me was: "things to look for", and it'll just name things that you should find and toss. What was i thinking keeping a bunch of random keys around. :D. And freakin' takeout menus. I tossed the old keys and put the menus in a folder. The book is much better than that, but those were the first 2 things i did. I've seen a ton of decor, declutter and organize books. this one is really good.

Excellent book for entrepeneurs

Good, But Not Perfect!
I really like this series of books that range from this "Storage" one to "Bathrooms," "Family Houses," etc...but I am giving this book a 4 because it shows alot of houses that seem to be beyond the means of most people that I know around my area.This book also likes to tell you to build storage in every little crack/space that does not currently have something useful going for it.I am giving it 4 stars, because it does inform you of all of the different types of devices that are currently (as of the book being published) available to help you make storage possible in nooks and crannies.It also gives you ideas and suggestions about how you can make more use out of the storage that you already have, by redesigning the shelving to make it more attractive also.Try not to read it all at once though, because I started to gloss over stuff just to get to the end of the book.Take it a step at a time and it will be a great start for you.

Not for an average house
I was really excited about this book before I opened it.I was very disappointed to see that it really only covers larger houses which already have space available.All the pictures show rooms with high to very high ceilings, entrance ways, and alot of open space.Unfortunately, I think, that the average house is much smaller, with less room to work with & lower ceilings, not every place has utility rooms, verandas or entrance ways to utilize.Even the bathrooms were larger than most I've seen.Also, many houses do not even have very much extra wall space due to small room dimensions, windows, doorways & possibly a fireplace.Try to work around that - that's what I was expecting to see, I guess, more variety in the types of homes.If you do get this book, be prepared to renovate.

At least one idea for everyone
This book's title is absolutely accurate. It is chock full of ideas, both in the text and the pictures, for innovative storage all over the house. Another important thing to me is that the writers of this book realize that it is often the details, such as the height of a bench or the placement of a drawer, that can make or break a storage solution. They encourage the homeowner throughout the book to choose the solutions and dimensions that fit their house and their lifestyle. Function is the No. 1 priority, but form is not shortchanged at all, as the photos prove.Read more

Just talk to your mother!
I thought this book had some really weird ideas that wouldn't work. Some of them might even damage stuff. I am sending this book back and asking my mom how to clean things, even though I am embarrased that I do not know already. This book is no substitute for real experience.

I didn't learn much.
I found this book dissappointing. It overstates the obvious. Unless you are totally clueless and never had to pick up your room as a kid, you probably know all this stuff already. A waste of money.

Great Resource
This really isn't the type of book you sit down and read. It is the type of book you keep around for reference. Having said that though, I did sit down and page through this book and go many ideas regarding how to clean things that i thought I was doing a find job cleaning. What I learned, however, is that there might be a better way, a safer way, a less damaging way to clean something. Read more

This isn't a how-to book, it's background information!
I recently bought an older condo and having been raised in a traditional family (Often told to "go help my mother") I wasn't prepared for the hows and whys of how houses and their appliances work. I needed a basic education.

Buy this before you buy your home.
For the non-mechanically inclined girly-girl who has always lived in an apartment - this one's for you. A fast read will give you the knowledge to prepare yourself for the unknown which could have been known. It will keep you from looking like a complete nut in front of the house-savvy. It will help you feel confident when there's an emergency. It doesn't tell you how to FIX the toilet, but you can know where the water shut off valve is. Not for sloppy, lazy, straight men
This book was hard to read.The book design is like something you'd see in Cosmo or Lucky, or maybe one of the style magazines for metrosexuals. Brilliant

Engaging but not too useful
although this book is quite entertaining, and she quite accurately describes pilers like myself, her approach is too 'dumbed-down'. She kept me laughing as she described situations which could have easily happened in my own home, but gave little actual information I felt I could use.

I love this book as it describes what I am looking at...right now! If I had a webcam trained on the room this computer is in, you'd see pile after pile of computer mags, books, papers, etc. Both my mate and I are pilers. Sad to say. Highly Recommended for those struggling with messy homes!
I own many organization books and implemented their strategies only to fail miserably a few months later.Why?Because I'm a Piler - I have piles all over the house, on every flat surface imaginable.Ironically, I KNEW what was in those piles.Karen's book helped me to realize that I needed to work with my natural instinct to "pile".Her book is delightfully funny, and at the same time, uncanny because she described me perfectly (my husband says that Karen and I were "twins seperated at birth").The book will show you the difference between a Piler (a person who battles with chronic piles) and a Filer (Martha Stewart-types), how to organize each room, how to sift through clutter without getting bogged down, how to handle paperwork, cooking, doing chores, and holidays.I had already been doing some of the things she suggested, but feeling like a failure because "it wasn't the way Emilie Barnes does it."She validated my successes.PLEASE get this book if you are the type of person who has trouble keeping up with calendars & planners, live by "out of sight, out of mind" (think of those "science projects" lurking in the back of the fridge), have piles on every flat surface in your home, have "Laundry Mountain", don't mop floors, clean toilets & tubs until you "see a ring", always late when sending cards, letters, bills, have rolls of undeveloped film, etc.My piles are now contained, and I can easily locate things when I need them.Karen gave me HOPE and appreciation for my differences, instead of feeling like a failure for not being able to "keep up" with all the lists and schedules, like my "cleanie counterparts".You will enjoy her sense of humor, too.Thanks, Karen! ... Although this book was written well enough, with a catchy, accessible tone, I was disappointed by how little of it related to organization.I'd been expecting a volume that would offer me good, concrete hints on organizing the clutter in my house and office.And indeed, "Get Organized with Heloise" starts out that way, but quickly veers off course.Hints for finding a mover?Taking your pet to the vet?Throwing a party?All useful I'm sure, but what do they have to do with organization?Read more
