5-0 out of 5 stars AN IMPRESSIVE RESOURCE FOR THE HEALTHY HOME!!
Five Healthy Stars!! This may well be one of the most iMPORTANT books you buy this year, because it may significantly upgrade your home and your lifestyle. This is one of the most beautifully conceived and elegantly laid out workbooks I have seen. Lots of inspiring photographs by Thayer Allyson Gowdy. And it covers a multitude of topics on the home; some covered more in depth than others. Plus there are many resources listed beyond the scope of the book. The operative word here is "home", not house. It not only covers hazards, dangers, and other factors and practices that affect our health in our homes and yards, but there are suggestions on cures, safer substitutes, design and layout of areas of the home. There is also genuine concern for the mind and the spirit of the inhabitants. Even Electromagnetic Fields (EMF) is covered and other relevant or near-relevant factors that may have escaped our interests or concerns. Due to the extensiveness of the workbook, some of this may not work for some of us: feng shui, dream journals, and shoes banned in the home? I don't think so!! But so much else DOES work! The general nature of the workbook also invites us to dig deeper on many topics that are only briefly touched on here. So get with it !!

All things black and slimy.I loved your book Dr. Money.Lets add the nasty Chaetomium next time also neurogenic fungus.
5-0 out of 5 stars Funny Fungi
If Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) were reincarnated as a mycologist, he would have written this book. Dr. Money's liberal dose of irreverent humor makes his very detailed, erudite book on toxic mold easy and enjoyable to read.5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book!
Nicholas Money is an amazing writer who manages to entertain and instruct at all times. I found myself learning and laughing from cover to cover. "Carpet Monsters and Killer Spores" is a book for everyone. Not only does it provide a wonderful introduction to the study of fungi; it explores the way our lives and destinies are inextricably linked to those of the fungi. Homeowners, attorneys, and people in the insurance industry will find much to enjoy (and fear!) in this book, as will biology enthusiasts, naturalists, and readers of all persuasions.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great simplicity refresher
This book did not change my life, but it contained clear cut ways of simplifying. If you are already a hard core simplifier then this book is probably mostly a review. It is best for beginners or for those of us that need to be reminded that less is more. I got a lot out of it and I think you will too.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book works!
This book saved me!I had too much stuff! My 2005 New years resolution was to get rid of so many things. I held on to a train case I never used because my favorite aunt gave it to me. I carried it around for years everytime I moved, and I never used it. I had a closet full of yarn ( I knit and crochet) I gave it away. I only kept a few cashmere skeins. This books covers every room of your home, and even organizing your photos! I almost took an online course from todo-list, but saved myself the $75.00 fee. This is a comprehensive book, and it is organized bydaily projects that take an hour a day to do. (sometimes much less time)If you want to make your household run smoothly, and find your things (keys,etc..) get this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment...
I certainly agree with some of the reviewers: the book is boring; reading long, useles stories is just time consuming. It is not supposed to be a momoir: it should be a MANUAL "how to organize your life". You cannot learn it from a book which is, in many ways, not very well organized.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my all time favorite books
I bought this book when it had just come out and I was newly married.Ive used it so much that it is in tatters, but I still treasure it.The information and illustrations of storage closets, kitchens, general home layouts, etc. are still as useful and inspiring today as they were back in the 1950s.Their sections on choices and care of products for the home: floors, etc are still valid.Their discussions of time and motion techniques in cooking, house cleaning, bed making, etc. are outstanding.I still refer to it frequently. This book is like a dear old friend and has influenced my life for 50 some odd years. It is one of the 9 or 10 most influential and treasured books that I own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great then, and great now
Written during the height of the best of Mid 20th Century consumer progress, this reprint is full of still-valid ideas, with the remainder for just looking in wonder at times gone by. In this book, Russel and Mary went to great lengths to explain everything that they believed was important to orchestrating successful home engineering and economics. It's fun to read, and the original illustrations are stylized and tongue-in-cheek. It's fantastic that this book has been reprinted, so its wisdom and guidelines can educate and possibly downscale some of the pseudo-modern pretentiousness of our contemporary lifestyles, via the true modernism of the past that is expressed in the Wright's text. For instance, the mainstream 21st Century over-stuffed attitudes of living in contrived luxury, look bloated and phoney compared to the Wrights' explanations of pared-down but comfortably designed home decorating and economics; i.e., think modern, lightweight, artistic, and easy to maintain -- not necessarily "cheap" or severely spare. Their message was to have fun, make your house look beautiful, and do it intelligently with as little extraneous pomp and flounce to clean as possible. Great advice for the 21st Century! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful ideas for those who struggle to organize
The Organizer Lady, Sandra Felton, is back with Organizing Magic: 40 Days to a Well-Ordered Home and Life. Actually, Felton explains at the beginning that these are not forty consecutive days because some of the projects require a change of thinking, such as finally feeling that you can invite someone into your home. It's more accurately described as forty projects than forty days.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just What I Needed!
How does Sandra Felton know exactly what I'm like and what I'm thinking? The chapter headings give specific assignments which is the kind of step-by-step approach I appreciate.I am on the 'Be Very Annoyed step' and feel I am making progress.Great book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Encouragement for every day
I have enjoyed all of Sandra's books but I found this one particularly helpful. This is not a how-to book in the sense that it gives a lot of structure for organizing .But I found it to be very helpful as a daily encouragement, almost like a "daily devotional" for those of us who struggle daily to keep up the motivation to keep our homes and lives organized in spite of busy lives and families. (If you struggle like this you will know what I mean and I think this book will help you, too.)Thanks, Sandra! ... Read more

I bought the book on impulse, intrigued by the title. It was well worth it.The book is informative while treating the subjects irreverently and humorously. The tongue-in-cheek advise appears, at times, so genuine, that you read it aloud several times, asking:Does she mean it?

5-0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyed this book
A friend of mind told me about this new book that I had to read. I LOVED it.From the title, I assumed that it would be funny - which it is.But I didn't think I would find so many great tips on how to be better at all those tasks we all have to do, but don't particularily put much thought into. What I took for a light summer read, turns out to be a really helpful how-to book for meal prep & planning, laundry, home organizing & cleaning.Anyway, I just bought 3 more copies to give to friends for upcoming birthdays & a hostess present. ... Editorial Review

Never mind all the year 2000-type scare scenarios. Just close your eyes for a moment and imagine what would happen if you became ill and couldn't work, or if an earthquake or hurricane or bomb left your community devastated. It happens all the time. When unexpected disasters happen, people who are even a little prepared are much better off than those who have taken their dependence on outside resources for granted. When you imagine the security of not having to worry about going to the store for even a few weeks, a comprehensive storage system begins to make sense.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Will help you prepare for emergencies...
The publisher, Gold Leaf Press Says: Basics has sold over 350,000 copies. Concerns about the Year 2000 computer bug, unexpected job loss, volatile financial markets, and natural disasters such as severe storms have made home storage and preparedness a current topic all across the country. 2-0 out of 5 stars More food prep oriented than emergency
This book has some useful information but it doesn't fit the bill as an emergency book because much of it includes things like recipes which you cook in an 350 degree oven - which you may not have in a true emergency. Also, there are a lot of charts that look good but really don't help that much.9 pages on the use of honey seems a bit much too.Resource section lists lots of resources but closer examination shows that many aren't geared to individuals or only carry one item for emergency use. ... I love being organized - it makes my life so much simpler. But, I raised a "Messie."In fact, long before Sandra Felton wrote "The Messies Manual," I had dubbed my daughter "Messie Jessie."
