5-0 out of 5 stars Great little remedies and great for kids too.
I had seen an ad about this book with some of the remedies listed.I went and bought it just to see what I could find in there. As I started reading it, I saw ones my MOM used.
5-0 out of 5 stars really good for saving money with items in your kitchen
Joey Green has written several books detailing the most commonplace items in your kitchen, garden, and so forth that you can use for remedies in you health, home repair, and so forth. This book, along the same genre, is not exception. Many of us don't realize what powerful chemicals already lie in many household goods that we possess. This book details some of the most commonplace items such as soap, cooking oil, and other things to repair and restore household items such scratched wooden tables, Milk of Magnesia for acne, etc.Kudos to Joey Green for this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...very interesting!
Did you know that you can stop sunburn pain by adding Cheerios to your bathwater (please don't recycle!)? Also, stop a shaving nick or canker sore in it's tracks with Alum (a spice by McCormick). These and other bizzare but useful tips can be found in this new book by Joey Green, author of "Polish Your Furniture With Panty Hose" and "Clean Your Clothes with Cheez Whiz". Learn how, in a pinch, you can shave with Jif peanut butter, or use a credit card to scrape your tongue when out in public and plagued with hallitosis. Gatorade can cure a headache? You bet. Then, there are some no-brainers in here (e.g. use a Q-Tip as a substitute eye shadow applicator, shrink a zit with toothpaste- all us 80's girls know this one! But, I had no idea toothpaste could reduce redness and speed the healing of a hickey!)If you love waterproof mascara, but hate removing it, simply keep Johnson's baby Shampoo on hand and remove mascara with a small amount of it on a cottonball. This book also has "Strange Facts" at the end of each chapter; did you know Abe Lincoln's Mother died from drinking the milk of a cow that ate poisonous mushrooms? The phrase "cold shoulder" originated in the Middle Ages when Europeans fed unwanted guests leftover beef shoulder to get them to leave. If for no other reason, get this book and find out how using McCormick food coloring can help you clean your teeth better. A fun book, great to give as a gift. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good ideas.
This book has helped me understand some of the things I've been doing wrong or overlooking for some time now. Some really good ideas for making your own workshop dust control gear. This book is worth reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a must for dust collection design.
This is a well written book, loaded with information. Parts of it read like a tutorial on dust collection, parts discuss tips and options for collection while parts of the book offer suggestion for design. When considering the total cost of a dust collection system, this book is a cheap up-front investment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent coverage of the dust collection problem
Like all the other Taunton Press woodworking books this one really covers one subject completely. It isn't just about dust collectors (the big ones with the large bags) but covers many methods for reducing dust productionas well as collecting and eliminating airborne dust. A must have book forany woodworking enthusiast who needs keep the dust out of their house andtheir lungs! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book changed my life, literally.
With all the harsh reviews of this book, I had to put my two cents in. All my life, I had kept everything because I was so sentimental. Any little thing I was given, no matter if it was useful or not, was to be kept. I spent most of my teenage years perenally cleaning my room. It's not that I was a slob persay, but that I didn't have enough room to keep everything put away neatly. So it overflowed into my attic.. which was a mess as well.
2-0 out of 5 stars dissapointed...
ive read over 10 guides in this vien. this one's an overall dry read. i know my review's harsh but its the truth.

Editorial Review

Americans probably move more often than anyone else on earth these days, but very few have mastered the logistics of doing so without major trauma, confusion, and lots of unpleasant surprises in the bargain. Ramsey's book should fix that! This book doesn't miss a trick--from a month-to-month, week-to-week, day-to-day countdown of advance preparations to tips on minimizing the trauma of the move for children, all facets are covered in great detail, including how to choose the right mover and/or vehicle, packing tips, unpacking tips, advice on encouraging the family to work together, and how to safely move plants and pets. Budgets, safety, "survival kits" for moving day, and getting settled into your new neighborhood are well described in this completely thorough manual to reducing the trials of moving. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is great!
My relative passed away (out of town) and we weren't sure which way to go. Should we hire a mover or rent a U-haul? Found this book for $6.00 at an outlet store. Best $6.00 I ever spent.
3-0 out of 5 stars Breezy and a bit shallow
As befits a book in the "Complete Idiot's Guide" series, the book is written in a simple format, with lots of line drawings and a lite view of the process. It is also very complete, lightly touching on justabout everything to do with the process of moving. What was missing, Ithought, was much help on the emotional adjustment side of moving, especially moving with children. It would be fine for singles or coupleswho want a fast, upbeat description of what all needs to be covered in ahousehold move. The book appears perfect for a cartoon character I rememberfrom the sixties:"Get-out-of-Town-before-Sundown Brown." ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars First Item to go? This book.
We don't like clutter in our house. That makes it simple to decide (as many before Ms. Emmett have advised) whether to get rid of it or to keep it - and where. As a writer, I have many books. I buy more than I keep. The ones I don't keep get given away. Very rarely is a book so bad that I will not pass it along to someone else. The meaningful content in this book could have all been said (once) in about 20 pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars My mother-in-law wrote this book - I think it is great!!!!!!
The books is great...and I can personally attest she lives what she writes.Even her 1/8 tsp. measuring spoon has a perfect little hook it hangs on ready for use. This book was funny and full of tips to help you unclutter areas not commonly addressed...like your car.Pick it up...enjoy the read...feel better about your stress free space.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clutter Turned Comedy
According to Rita Emmett, the Deadly SINS of Clutter require just a little repentance. If you are saving everything, insisting on bringing stuff into your house that you don't need or setting things aside until you "decide about it," then you will definitely want to read this hilarious book about clutter. She believes there are only four steps to eliminating clutter and gives the four primary causes of clutter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wide Ranging and Helpful Advice
Gary Schroeder has written a book that will be a goldmine of information for anyone who owns a log home that is more than a few years old. Plenty of practical advice for caring for, restoring, and fixing old log homes. He covers a large variety of topics: log home finishes and finish problems and repair, sanding versus waterblasting versus sandblasting, chinking repair and replacement, insect damage, decay . .the list goes on. Amply illustrated, plenty of color, vivid diagrams. And Gary knows his stuff--he also owns Schroeder Log Home Supply, one of the US's top log home supply stores. If you want practical help with how to diagnose log home problems, and fix them, this is the place to start. You will not learn to be a professional chinking applicator by reading the section on chinking, this book is more of a "log home owner's manual," not an encylopedia of log restoration techniques and tools. (Just as a car's owner's manual does not tell you step by step how to rebuild the transmission.)

5-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Housewarming Gift
Finally a book that is practical and not overwhelming to the new homeowner or even an experienced home owner.I wish I had had this book when I first became a homeowner. It is the perfect gift for someone just starting out or even someone who has been a homeowner for a long time. The book is so easy to understand and set up in a way that makes it easy to find what you're looking for.Men could use this book as well.My son thought it was great but thought it should have been titled The Savvy Men and Women's Guide to Owning a Home.

4-0 out of 5 stars Curious Person's Guide to Home Buying and Owning
This book is for people who think BEFORE they act and like Curious George, like to know a little about how things work with out being overwhelmed with technical details.People who buy this book AFTER they move into a home (for rent or sale) will find that they wished they had bought the book BEFORE the move. The author underestimates both the usefulness of her book and the wide audience (my Dad needed this book as well as myself before my first apartment). I think this would be a good read prior to searching for a home as buyers tend to get caught up in the emotions of the buy. This practical book brings you down to earth and makes you focus on basic items like the safety of home.
1-0 out of 5 stars Savvy Woman's Guide to Moving and Calling Repairmen
I am shocked by the good reviews this book is getting.I made this purchase thinking I'd learn how to "care for, improve and maintain" my home.Instead I found a bunch of non-specific reasons why I need to maintain my home and nothing about how to do so.What exactly are these reviewers referring back to?There is no information here that is complete enough to be useful. I am willing to bet that I never need to open this book again.

3-0 out of 5 stars Misleading title
This is really a book about *emotional* metaphors for cleaning; spirituality is so much bigger than that. There were several aspects of the book that left me feeling like the author doesn't really understand spirituality. For example, the opening material starts by painting a picture of the author resting in her accomplishments on a float in a pool. To me this was an image depicting the opposite of spirituality; the author seems to be enjoying a relaxing, pampering experience that her relative wealth has entitled her to, but it seems devoid of spiritual meaning or depth. That said some of the metaphors (for example, a description of washing the dishes and how that mirrors one'spersonal life) are useful for developing a focus on a specific housekeeping task and for adding a bit of creativity and reflection to routines.
1-0 out of 5 stars Zen of Floor Scrubbing
Yes, it's yet another book that promises a spiritual component to scrubbing the bathroom floor on hands and knees! The central message of this book is that you will experience personal growth if you dust every now and again. For people who haven't lifted a duster in years, this may be a ground-breaking insight (possibly literally). However, if you already have an essentially clean house, the best you can hope to find here is assurance that you're bursting with emotional health.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too-too
The writer of this book leads readers into, well, a mess. The information and ideas are hard to find, let alone grasp. The writing style wanders around the point versus nailing it. A frustrating book. On the same topic, SACRED SPACE by Denise Linn is a much better book because it gets to the POINT much more quickly and is easier to understand. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Idea, Great Title, Great Graphics: however....
The author's heart seeems in the right place and many people will enjoy this book. While I loved the look of the book and the author's playful writing style, I didn't find the actual info as helpul as the info in other better books. For me, the books "Speed Cleaning," and also the book "Simplify Your Life" were more effective. Also, I enjoyed "Speed Cleaning 101," and "Sink Reflections." This author is a good writer, but for the price I found it was not worth the money spent. You may like it though, and I can see where the book would make a fun gift. I hate to write reviews that are anything less than stellar, but there you have it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Anything secret? No, nor new either...
There is ABSOLUTELY nothing new and/or secret in this volume.Just a rehash of ideas and lists and schedules that have been presented thousands of times before and in much better and more enjoyable style. Not a complete waste but close to it.5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for former princesses
This book is a lifesaver for me. Growing up, my family did the picking up and putting away around the house on a daily basis, and I washed dishes daily, but a housekeeper came in once a week to do the heavy cleaning. My mother ran a successful business, and didn't do much cooking or cleaning at home. Therefore, I didn't learn the way most women do - watching their mothers. Fast forward to my first apartment - hovering over my very own toilet, I wasn't exactly sure how to clean it. Joni Hilton works the house from top to bottom, room by room, explaining exactly what kind of dirt can build up in which places and how to most efficiently get rid of it. She even tells you her favorite cleaing products. Other housekeeping books are such boring Martha Stewart manuals that not only are they a drag to read, but they leave you feeling completely incapable of ever having a clean house. Joni Hilton's book is a quick, funny, light read, and her clean house is very attainable. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for independent readers/writers
This book would be very good for kids who are able to read and write independently and fluently - perhaps 8 and up.If you have a lot of time on your hands, you could use it with kids as young as 5 but you'll have to read and write in it for them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This book was just what my son needed. We just found out we're moving to Brussels and he needed some words to express how he was feeling about it.We sat down and literally read one or two pages and he said, "Mom, that's just how I'm feeling."That was the entire reason I bought this book.
