Wordless Cartoons
I had seen this book in the stores when it was first published. When I went to buy one it could not be found an so a couple of years went by an I would think about it when I would see one of the cartoons in the back of a woodworking magazine. Finely decided to look on the internet to see if I could fine one. Got this one an just love it. I have already used a couple of the projects from the book.

A Well "Written" Work with a Wealth of Ideas
Doty divides his subject matter into five categories: 1. Cabinents, Closets, & Shelves; 2. Around the House; 3.The Workshop; 4. Sports, Toys, and Entertainment; and 5. The Great Outdoors.Each section contains from six to seventeen individual projects, 60 some odd projects in all. It really IS wordless
What a cool book! The problem is presented in a cartoon. For instance.. (I have six kids, this is my favorite)... a woman sorting through laundry to wash, trying to separate the colors. Laundry is all over the floor in front of the machine.Read more

The title really does sum up the book.However, in the attempt to cover both aspects of a broad topic the book fails to cover either aspect in depth. Nice starter for the beginning craftsman
This book is excellent if you are new to the world of repair and craft.It gives an excellent overview of the tools and accessories needed including different kinds of screws and different kinds of hinges.Metal work is also covered.I was though disappointed that the topic of wood was not more focused upon.Excellent primer.

the how-to handy illustrated reference @ the top of the heap
This is a beautiful book, made by and for those who love tools, craftsmanship, and doing it right the first time.As a former carpenter and general building and remodeling contractor, I've seen and read a lot of how-to books.I have to say, I am truly impressed at the breadth and depth and accuracy of this book, and as a bookseller by trade now, I have to say this is one book that is staying in my own personal library!Read more

If you like black and white illustrations of problems, with captions warning against rot, mold, and termites, buy this book.If you are looking for lists of negative things to be on the lookout for, buy this book.Dismal and very anti-DIY, this book mainly says, don't fix it yourself - definitely call a pro every time.There are better choices for DIY reading out there.

What you wish every woodworking book was like
This book is a compilation of articles and plans from previous issues of Woodsmith. If you go to their web site, you can download the individual plans, but you're much better off buying this book. The book gives you twelve plans, including the workbench and cabinet, router table, table saw and miter saw stations, and a pretty good lumber rack, among others. The plans are well laid out, you get materials lists and cutting diagrams, and they include enough text to guide you through an entire project, start to finish. What I particularly liked were two things: 1) They warned you in advance of what NOT to do and what to watch out for, and 2) they gave you additional plans for jigs to make the job faster, easier, and better. Each project shows multiple exploded views, with plenty of closeups of the tricky parts. Additionally, they ocassionally offer alternative ways to build things, usually faster, cheaper, and/or easier if your skills aren't quite up to snuff. A real bonus are the Shop Tips. These appear about every three or four pages and convey some little tidbit of information that usually applies directly to the project you're working on. Gives good general idea options for home workshop options
The book gives good general idea options for various workshops in the home/garage.It does give a nice option for a closet workshop, although it didn't look real practical to me.The book is lacking in specifics forbulding a bench or home repair area.This book is designed more for aperson who wants a "workshop" and has a number of power tools toplace in the room, such as scroll-saw, drill press, planer, etc.

Cinnamon Sticks to Stop Cats From Digging Plants
This is a wonderful book. My wife and I have used it so much it has worn pages. All of the hints we have tried, are great. Great reference
You can find the solution fast in this book.It is well-indexed, and the pages are laid out well with photos and related tips.Space is at a premium for me, so it helps that this valuable tome is only 1/2-inch thick. A book I couldn't get by without!!!

A must for novice homeowners!!
If like me you have no idea of how things work around the house, then this is a must! It explains clearly every area of the home from Plumbing to nail sizes with diagrams. The author explains each topic assuming you have noknowledge of the subject (which in my case was ideal).However the onlydrawback is that the author deosn't go into any details on any of thesubjects nor does he show how to fix any of the errors which he sites. Nonetheless, it gives a great introduction on how a home functions.

Great organizer - even for multi-family home!
My husband and I bought a 2-flat, and his parents gave us this book. This is our first house, and the diary made us realize how many things there are about a house that we need to keep track of. The space to put wall andfloor covering information is especially helpful, since we'll probably bepainting the rental unit a lot. The book provides plenty of space forwriting, but could use some pages with folder-type pockets for receipts.I'm sure we be better able to list the selling points when we're ready tomove out as a result of using this book. ...
