Disappointed in photos.I am from Texas and expected so much more. There are so many options here to use and missed the mark.I returned my copy.Something that I rarely bother to do.
5-0 out of 5 stars Rustic Western Interiors at Their Best!
Without exaggeration, this is the best book to date documenting rustic western interiors. The extraordinary Cowboy and Indian memorabilia collections featured in these homes will make you green with envy. Large, beautiful photographs of exceptional Texas homes, no sterile contemporary interiors here. I've always admired Beard and Parsons work, this is the best to date. No disappointments here! ... Disappointing. Too much repetition. Not enough examples.

5-0 out of 5 stars real decorating for real people
This is very easy to understand and follow book on decorating your home using layman terminology. Even a novice could follow it without any problem. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for redecorating tips and helpful hints.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Real Decorating for Real People" is exactly what it says!!
I love watching Matt and Shari on Room By Room, and this book is a great extension of the show.I can almost hear the two of them kidding with each other while they did the decorating.I wasn't crazy about the fur pillow in the bedroom, but there are tons of ideas in the book that I can use to decorate my own home and you can too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okfor reference
When I first started looking at the explanation for perspective I thought it was pretty good. But as it went on, I thought no one is going to pay me to take this much time to do a rendered drawing! This book could be good for developing your eye and understanding of perspective but there are short cuts that will give you better than acceptable results. There are also books that have more to offer in terms of rendering the presentation.I have found that no one singular book completely communicates everything you need. This one, I could have done without.

5-0 out of 5 stars perspecitve for interior designers
This book is a helpful tool for those of us struggling with perspectives.Page by page written and visual instructions assist in not just drawing perspectives, but really understanding how they are put together!Even for those who are new to the world of drawing and explaining concepts via drawing! THANKS!

The Fabric Reference, along with the Fabric Glossary provides the best comprehensive reference of basic textiles that you can obtain anywhere in today's market. To make it a perfect reference set, you can purchase the Fabric Glossary Swatch Set directly from Ms. Humphries, which provides fabric samples to be taped into the Fabric Glossary while giving the history, manufacturing (weave, knit, lace, etc.) description and fabric content for each swatch allowing for a realistic study of fabrics. 4-0 out of 5 stars Helpfullness
Piotrowski writes about the steps on how to become an interior designer. There are several chapters describing the design process and the different types of design. There are detailed accounts of what is put into residential and commercial spaces. She takes a look at the future of the profession. There are several testimonials and showcases for active designers giving their opinions and advice on the profession. This book offers an in depth account on the profession and what is to come in the interior design field. As an aspiring interior designer, this book talked too much about current designer's experiences and not strictly about the profession. The book overall was helpful and knowledgable and I suggest those interested in the field get this book and take it to heart. This book is a fairly easy to read book; it rates only at the twelfth grade level on average. It is appropriate for those in high school and older. It helps inspire those that are looking at the profession and those already in it.

3-0 out of 5 stars An Interest In Interior Design
I recently read Becoming an Interior Designer by Christine Piotrowski, ASID, IIDA, for a critical analysis paper in my english class at OSU. After reading it, I would agree that interior design is more complex than the average person might assume. Throughout this selection, Piotrowski discusses the types of design, the changes in the profession over time, and the educational preparation to gain a better understanding of the career overall. This informative "how-to" book discusses commercial and residential areas of interior design and what is important to know in order to become successful in the rapidly growing field. In her attempt at writing an educational book, Piotrowski uses techniques, variety, and tips that ultimately reveal to readers whether this career is suitable for them. This book is best for anyone who is interested in the field and is looking for a quick light read. I found the book to be repetitive, not necessarily intellectually challenging, but a fun read that can either discourage or encourage one to follow their dream to become an interior designer. So if one has the desire to learn more about this book check out this guide to careers in design.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Students of Design
This book is an excellent source of information for those interested in becoming designers and those already studying interior design. This book explains commerical design well and gives truthful information on what potential employers will expect from a design education. If you are serious about becoming an interior designer, read this book - so you will be completely informed on this fun and dynamic profession. It is not decorating! ... Read more

My questions on reading this book were, "who GOES to these parties?" and "who THROWS these parties?"If you can get your mind around those questions, the book is useful.

3-0 out of 5 stars Just another potpourri book...
I love interior decorating books, especially Colonial, Regency and Victorian or English Country Style. But this book covers too much territory.A few pictures of each, as well as others styles like Ranch, or French. If you are having trouble deciding on a style, this book might help you. It has lovely illustrations, but again, as it is trying to cover many different styles falling under the broad title of "Country" your information is limited. There are too many books coming out like this. Specialty books are much better.Look to Rizzoli for the best in interior decorating books, or if you want some kind of country, best buy a book that covers that one particular style.I browsed through this at the store, hoping it might make a good Christmas present for me, but it ended up back on the shelf. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Very clear and well explained book.
I bought this book for a garage project of mine and the decent reviews it had. I must say the reviews are well deserved. This book offers plenty of photos and well explained "how-to" guide lines. Detailed explanation with photos of all the tools you'll need for your project. I can now do my projects with confidence considering I am a novice at carpentry. Excellent choice for the novist.

1-0 out of 5 stars So far from complete its an insult to carpenters
Had to give 1 star to off set the other reviews. My problem with most of these carpentry books is their lack of conviction to a topic. I have been a carpenter for way longer than 4 years (the accepted journeyman level). In truth it takes a lifetime to keep up with new practices and master traditional techniques. If you need to read 93 PAGES OF 277 on what a particular tool is or how to set up a saw then you really are not ready for complete carpentry. You need to develop your understanding of the tools.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not a great book.
This book doesn't include any text about stairs. I guess most complete homes don't need stairs. I find this book more of a coffee table book than a book I can count on for howto information. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Addition to My Fabric Painting Resource Library
I've already collected a number of painting/dyeing/surface design books for working with fabric, and this makes an excellent addition. I don't think it could stand alone as the be-all and end-all, but it is comprehensive in the sense that the author presents all kinds of ideas and inspiration, as well as photographs and instructions/resources. The one thing I might have found more helpful would be greater detail in the steps she took to achieve certain results. Although she does offer descriptions, it seems that sometimes steps and/or details of the process are missing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Explains why
This book is particularly strong on explaining the theories behind the different fabric types and why they react as they do to dyes and paints. Some of the instructions are very clear and good photos of stamps and other printing techniques. I found the finished items and cloth a bit messy - not really my style. But a good addition to the library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive
This book is wonderfully comprehensive of the latest methods for embellishing with dyes and inks.I would have liked to have seen other artists results with her techniques, but I find the technical information more than compensates. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Integrated Buildings: The Systems Basis of Architecture
In this book, the reader is exposed to the integrated building concept through the exposition of theory, and the presentation ofindividual case studies. The case studies are organized into seven categories: Laboratories, Offices, Airport Terminals, Pavilions, Residential Architecture, High Tech Architecture, and Green Architecture.5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-read for Every Architect
Architects want to learn from each other and from the great architecture of the world. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible for anyone (even an architect) to observe a completed building and understand all the issues that were considered and how they were ultimately integrated--or it has been, until now.5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful and Informative
Design depends on intuition but intuition itself depends on a base of knowledge. Leonard Bachman contributes handsomely to that base in his new book. His "systems basis of architecture" is clearly described both in theory and practice. His case studies begin with indigenous traditions and then follow their transmissions and adaptations of method in a rich matrix of more recent examples. His approach is at the same time insightful and informative, a powerful combination of great value to students of architecture. ... Read more
