Great flooring book
I've only helped a neighbour lay a wooden floor before so I needed all the help i could get. This book is informative with good pictures and ideas. It details everything from the tools you need to the different types of flooring and how to lay them
Something To Stand On
I suspect that one of the most insane decisions in my life is deciding to redo my kitchen - on my own.This makes all kinds of practical sense, given what labor costs.But I am incorrigibly un-handy.But in a fit of pseudo-parsimony (you never really save any money doing something yourself - you just buy tools instead of labor) and a determination to recover my macho I have sailed into the unknown of plumbing, cabinetry, plastering, tiling, and, worst of all, flooring.Read more

All you need to make works of art for your floors and walls
I love making my own decorations but I like to finish projects that look tasteful and as nice (or better) than anything I could buy. You can't go wrong with this book, whether you are just starting out or looking for a larger challenge. There are some easier projects as well as ones that are more difficult. You could spend years using this book and not run out of ideas. Plenty of full-color photos, step by step directions and techniques. Worth every penny you spend on this one!

Anyone can paint a floorcloth using this book
Having made several floorcloths, I was encouraging my sister to try it.I bought this book not only because it offers easy to understand step by step directions, it also makes you realize that you don't have to be an artist to create a beautiful cloth.The author's ideas are so creative, yet simple enough that anyone reading this book will be motivated to give this project a try.

First Floor Cloth Painted
I read this book from cover to cover. I am not a painter and have never attempted anything like this before. I wanted to be sure that I was getting all the information I needed to be prepared in painting my first floorcloth. This book is a must have for anyone that wants to start painting floorcloths.The information is very detailed with step by step instructions for many projects.I learned so much about the differences in canvas,paints,techniques,what different tools to have and what they can do. You must check out kathy coopers website. It's great. She has given me the confidence and the background information to enhance my skills as a crafter and artist.

An Excellent Resource
We're refinishing our hardwood flooring and adding laminate to the playroom downstairs, but I wanted to do some research before spending any money.I checked out several books on flooring from the library, and this was the only one that was so thorough I immediately went out and purchased my own copy.Not only does it cover hardwoods and laminates, it covers just about every flooring material you can imagine (leather, rubber, cork, bamboo, etc.).Every material gets a solid description, several pictures, a list of pros and cons, and installation instructions.Also, a big chart in the front tells you which floors can be installed yourself and which need professional installers.It also gives number ratings for the difficulty of the task (should you take it on yourself) and for how much you can expect to spend in comparison with other flooring materials.
A comprehensive guide
This is an excellent book, by far the best I have ever bought on flooring maintenance and installation (I wish I had bought this one first). This book offers great comparisons of different types of materials, well written and simple instructions on how to install them and advice on when to get a professional if your an amatuer such as myself.This book is a great resource and will help you make an informed decision if your putting in a new floor, whether you do it yourself or not. ... Easy education; impressive results.

Could have been a free pamphlet
I bought this book at Home Depot and returned it after a few hours upon finishing it.I could have got the same information from a free pamphlet.They ought to be ashamed.However, there were some nice pictures and I did learn a little bit, but it was just a super easy primer for the real thing.I didn't buy another book before tiling 900sf in my house.I wish I had bought a better book, as I learned all kinds of tricks "the hard way."Hint: Swimming after tiling all day can return your back to normal when it doesn't seem like anything else will help.I am now going to buy John Bridge's book before my next tiling job.

This is a good book for people who want to start tiling or for people who have stated but would like to get more ideas, help or tricks.

Ooooo... Pictures...
This book is more or less useless on it's own.It tries to make tiling look really simple and straightforward.Tiling is actually not rocket science at all, but you really do need to spend time up front deciding what you are going to do.It isn't a weekend project.Get a real book written by someone who actually lays tile professionally and not just by people who sell the latest half-baked do it yourself supplies.I recommend "Tile Your Word" or "Setting Tile".Both top notch books.In fact, get both - given how expensive tile is it'll be worth the money.

Not what I hoped for
I was disappointed in this book, not because I was expecting a comprehensive reference work, but because it was so extremely narrow and artificial in scope. I had hoped to see vintage linoleum patterns in vintage rooms. Instead, the focus seemed to be on the rarest and wildest linoleum rugs - most of which were displayed rolled up - and all of which seemed to come from the same store in lower Manhattan. I could have achieved the same effect by visiting the store's website, which shows all the same pictures.

"Linoleum" is Very Disappointing
I just renovated my 1949-50 ranch house's kitchen into a retro look from the date the house was built. I ordered "LINOLEUM" with great anticipation. It was totally worthless to me. My expectations may have been too high since I had not seen the book before I ordered it online. So before you order it, make sure you check it out in a bookstore. It made maybe a total of about a page worth of comments on current products. No mention of all on their durability or success in today's real world.
