Read before you practice
I have practiced interior design for over 20 years and still found this book to be invaluable.The information about legal ramifications and insurance coverage was enlightening but also sobering.It's a must read for any design firm principal or freelance designer.

Get It!
This book reads like a friend whispering all the good advice and secrets of the interior design business in your ear. I wish my Professional Practices class had used this text.It's a lot of information but Christine Piotrowski truly takes you by the hand and lets you know what you need to prepare for in a budding interior design business as well as how the interior design business is done in general.I will be referencing this book again and again.A huge thank you and bravo to Christine Piotrowski

For project boards & rendering
I bought this to help organize my project boards, which it is great for. The bonus is the information on rendering. There was better information here than in the other 2 books I own on color theory and rendering.

excellent resource
This book is an excellent resource for the interior design student. It's a book you should get as soon as you start studies. Great reference to compliment classroom lessons. I also recommended it to my Residencial Design teacher. It has basic information that will save you time.Great buy!!

Wonderful Book
As the other reviewers have indicated, this is really a wonderful book.Page after page of spectacular eye-candy.Uplifing, gorgeous interiors. A must-have for anyone who needs some decorating inspiration.

Amazing book, incredible designers!
I am floored by the interior design of Diamond Baratta and this book is filled with page after page of incredible rooms. Even if your own taste is more on the mild side--check out this book because it could very well convert you to bringing pizzazz and excitement into your own home. Highly recommended!

Best Bungalow Book
Together writer Jane Powell and photographer Linda Svendsen create the best bungalow books on the market.Whether you are thinking of remodelling your kitchen, changing a few details, or just want to understand the history of your kitchen, this is the book to buy.

Oh man, more than just a pretty picture book
This wonderful book also has great vintage photos and a HISTORY of why the small kitchen was such a big deal and how it evolved! Lots of good detail and information for the old house aficionado.
Cool Kitchens
This book contains an excellent collection of photos of Arts & Crafts period kitchens.It discusses the philosophy of design Gustav Stickley and others advocated and shows you the results, which are still beautiful, even after all these years.It is a little short on detail, if you wanted to reproduce the look of the Arts & Crafts kitchen, but it does spark the imagination.The examples of various kitchens is broken down by designer, so it is easy to pick out their specific design influence.I found this book an inspiration for some of the designs I would like incorporate in my own home, and combined with some other books of design details, it is excellent. ... Targeted Primarily for Persons Doing Commercial Interior Design Projects
I already own AIA's Architectural Graphics Standards for Residential Construction, which is an excellent reference book for use in designing, planning, and building a new house or remodeling an existing one. Wanting more information for interior design of a house, I reviewed a copy of this book at the library. The book is primarily targeted to those persons doing interior design work on commercial projects. If you're looking for interior design help for a house, I would recommend buying AIA's Architectural Graphics Standards for Residential Construction to use as a reference and look for other books targeted specifically at residential interior design.

A good handbook for interior details!
The day I received the Interior Graphic Standards, I used some of the details in the book for a project I was working on. This book provides information, including construction details, which are very useful to the practicing architect and interior designer.

Bible of Interior Design~!
I'm an Interior Design student at Ryerson University in Toronto, and I have never seen a book that is as comprehensive as the IGS.It covers almost everything. I've used this book as a reference for almost every school project I've done. My professor strongly recommended this book to us, but at first I was hesitated to buy it because of the price.However I found it cheaper to buy online than in retail bookstores.I told my classmates about it and showed them the book, after they've seen it they said they are all gonna buy it. Excellent Book- Very Helpful
This is an excellent book.It's very interesting and was the first book of it's kind that I have read.I gives color and light suggestions for different environments such as schools, office spaces, etc.It givesdetailed scientific information about why these colors and types of lightare good to use in these environments that is easy to understand.I thinkthis book is a must have for all interior designers who care about theeffects the environment they design will have on the people that will be init!

Great Idea Book for Window Treatments
This fifth edition has all the sketches in color.Just to give you an idea of how comprehensive this is, there are 19 pages showing valances, with five per page.I love this book, as it really opened our minds to the variety of styles available for windows.No more boring windows.
Picture guide--okay but not complete
This is a book of window treatment sketches.Unfortunately, it is far from complete and lacks many styles. We do use this book in the trade, but I wish it were more complete--I find it lacking with many new styles.It also lacks many of the current styles being offered by the professional pattern companies.

Encyclopedia of Window Fashions

Good reference book but boring
Has lots of tables and charts, and is adequately explained. The author also writes study guides for standardized architecture tests, and that pretty much sums up the style: no opinions, just facts. Very thorough though. Personally I don't need a whole chapter on locks, but I suppose there are those who do. Presentation and graphics are a bit low-rent for an architecture book.

Thorough knowledge for Interior construction and details
This book should be on the shelves of every interior designer-it's so thorough that it's a little cumbersome at first.It should be used as a reference book, it gives chapter-by-chapter explanations on the specifics for the construction and application of windows, casegoods, partitions, etc.If there is ever any doubt in a designers mind as to how exactly something is constructed or works when it comes to the specifics of interior design, this book's for you. ... Interesting Decorating Style,A Bit TooMuch Going On
Kelly Wearstler is one of these trendy designers whose appeal I don't completely understand. I really do like the 'Hollywood Regency' style she has had a hand in reviving, but I can't help but feel most everything she does is too busy & over-decorated with a vague 1970s aesthetic, & her rooms tend to appear staged, a bit static & decidedly unwelcoming. However, I do enjoy looking at this book because the photos are excellent & there is just SO much to look at. The house featured in this book is beautifully designed proportion-wise but as with most of Wearstler's work, there is too much going on with the decor in every room-too much contrast, way too many gaudy accessories & tabletop bric-a-brac, too much orange & more than enough Asian statues packed into one house that I would imagine it's not very comfortable to live in.
Kelly Wearstler's Domicilium Decoratus
I really enjoyed Kelly Wearstler's Modern Glamour, but found this book to be disappointing.There's no text, only seemingly self-serving photographs of her and her gowns in her over-designed house.The only thought I had while flipping through the pages was how difficult it must be to keep it dusted!I would have been much more satisfied were there some explanations as to how she might have come to some of her design conclusions, because to me it all seems cluttered and complicated, and somewhat random.I guess that's part of the appeal, but I expected more text and fewer images of the woman herself.One quick flip through this one is enough - borrow it from the library.

I am not so sure
I like to appreciate one's art and give everyone the benefit of the doubt.Although Wearstler has the creative team to package her, her talent leaves me feeling short changed.

Codes are Fun!
Could studying building codes actually be fun?Much to my surprise, when you combine this book with the companion study guide workbook it is.The author presents the information on the codes clearly and in logical order.I am studying for my NCIDQ exam and was really nervous about the "codes questions" until I got this book.

The Codes Guidebook for Interiors- professional peer review
I own each of the 3 editions of this book, and have found the information to be a well source of sound, practical advise concerning the application of codes as they relate to interior projects. I am an Interior Designer and I refer to my copy of Codes Guidebook for Interiors regularly for projects I am involved in. This book and the companion study guide are part of the recommended resources for studying and preparing for the NCIDQ examination. I believe this book should be a part of every commercial practitioners library, whether they be an architect or interior designer.

Can't review a book I never received
I waited 6 weeks and Amazon never sent the book so I cancelled the order and gave up.

Very good general overview
This was a great book for an overview but did not go into great depth for some of the topics. The book does have a lot of great picture and I think it is well worth the read.

Good overview for textiles
If one is studying interior design or one wants to learn about textiles, this book is very informative. This was used as a textbook for a textiles class in an interior design program.

Time Saver Standards for Interior Design and Space Planners
This is a a "must have" for anyone in the interior design industry.The best book since Architectural Graphic Standards for the Interior Design Profession.Very Specific and all inclusive, excellent details for just about every application. Not great but the only thing like it.
This is a compilation of materials from other sources, most of which are readily available to everyone but it's very convenient to have all the information in one place. However, some of the information is inaccurate,some of the illustrations are out of date, and many are poor copies ofphotocopies that aren't legible.I find this inexcusable in a bookintended for designers and one that is $100+. Unfortunately, it is the onlybook of its kind. I recommend double checking any information that you takefrom it. Reznikoff is the only comparable book and that is even more out ofdate.At least Reznikoff was well produced though. ... Read more

Surprisingly useful
I loved this book--and, while I'm certainly not going to work in a Tiki-flavored cube and expect a promotion, the ideas weren't terribly impractical for my home office (zen cube) and my kids' rooms (garden cube), guest bathroom (modified safari cube), so if you're looking for fresh and interesting ideas for small spaces, this book is for you.
Great ideas to get rid of your boring gray cube!
It's great for gathering some interesting ideas for improving the standard-issue cube. Most of the finished cubes are way too over the top to really do, but I think the tips are useful for how to copy some of the things they did, plus they have a resources list in the back if you want to visit the websites they used. I'm definitely planning to use this book for inspiration to make my workspace more fun. Even if you never actually change anything in your area, this book is still good for laughs - use it as a "cube"-table book! ... Read more
