Disappointing
This book is very dated with mostly black & white photographs and some colour shots that show 60's interiors.It is a technical manual which is of little use in planning an interior in the 21st Century.I would not recommend this book as it is also poor quality paper and considerably overpriced.

Fabric for Interior by Jack Lenor Larsen
Jack Lenor Larsen's name should be widely known and respected throughout the textile arts community.He was originally a hand weaver trained at the Cranbrook Academy of Art.He saw the commercial and aesthetic potential ofethic handwoven fabrics from India, Africa, etc. He designed exquisitelybeautiful and original fabrics, some of which were based on traditionalfolk weaves, hired others to produce them by hand and marketed them to thearchitecture and design community.That was the start of the Larsenempire.His fabrics today are still uniquely original--he produces fabricsfrom wire, plastics, synthetics and natural fibers, and the construction ofthe fabric is always a surprise.Because of his originality and the depthof his understanding of textiles, he is especially well suited to creatinga book of this type.There is nothing about textiles that Larsen doesn'tknow! I have used this book as a text in a Textiles class (in anInterior Design department).It is better organized and more clearlypresented than any other textile book I know.It's easy for students tounderstand the construction of different weaves; the text is clear and theillustrations (both photo and line drawings) are excellent.Larsen hasalso targeted just the right information (including a chapter onprofessional practices) and just the right AMOUNT of information, forstudents of design, architecture and textiles.This is not a book forhandweavers to learn from--it is intended for the interior designstudent--but even long-time weavers will have a better understanding oftheir craft after reading this book.I recommend it without hesitation. ... Inspirational
This is a beautiful book and well worth having.The color and pattern combinations are unusual and inspire one to sew!The downside is that there are virtually no instructions.You already need to have basic sewing knowledge and other sewing resources to do the projects.Definitely a cut above the average soft furnishings book in design and originality. ... Practical and useful projects
Many books I've come across seem to have frivolous unusable decorative furniture makeover projects.Not with this book!I wasn't disappointed one bit, and much of the furniture pieces are items we've all acquired cheaply or simply have stored them in our basements with junk abounding on top of them.Easy to follow instructions and you don't have to be a pro at using tools, materials, etc.I was very pleased with the furniture that I was able to turn into something practicle and useable.

jazz up your junk with linda barker
I was horrified by Barker's book.She destroys attractive, and often costly, antiques to make artsy-craftsy pieces which will look dated within ten years.It's hard to believe she purchased the original pieces at bargain prices. I fear readers may destroy even more valuable items now sitting in their attics.If someone owns the necessary power tools, is willing to buy expensive materials and replacement hardware, and has unlimited time to do these projects, they should head to the local unfinished furniture store and use their own ideas and creativity rather than purchase this ill-considered book.
