5-0 out of 5 stars Truly a problem-solving guide
As an Interior Decorator who is really just starting out in this career field, I found window treatments to be my biggest challenge. There is nothing difficult about choosing great drapes, but I know from experience that window treatments can be true problem-solvers too, and I wanted to master the ability to match a great look with a great solution. This book offers ideas for filtering light to reduce a harsh afternoon glare, as well as how to combine modern window dressings with more traditional furniture settings. There are plenty of pictures, and I especially like the sections on various types of hardware and problem windows. There are plenty of books and magazines that inspire with beautiful photos but as a decorator, I do have my own inspirations for the look I want to achieve. What I needed was a practical guide that taught me all the basic options so I can now turn my ideas into practical window solutions that are also beautiful. This book is it! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Caroline Wrey's complete curtain making course
I was very disappointed in the content of the book. Not only were the styles out of date but the construction of the curtains was anything but professional. I am the owner of an upscale drapery workroom and I am always looking for books with great ideas, there were none in this book and frankly if I constructed any of my curtains in the manner in which she describes they would be returned by the designer and the client because of thepoor quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost but not quite enough for making my own
I was looking for help in how to cut and manage drapery fabric when making curtains. This book has a couple of helpful ideas on the subject.I also wanted detailed instructions on how to make lined draperies. There are detailed instructions but not enough for me.I am a beginner sew'er (not even a seamstress!).The how to pictures weren't big enough to show alot of detail and I am left with a bunch of questions.I am keeping the book though because it does have some neat ideas on drapery styles (i.e., Italian stringing) and very good instructions on how to make pinch pleat drapes if ever I try to!

2-0 out of 5 stars Lesson # 1:Never judge a book by its cover
A great disappointment. The relatively fashionable cover doesn't reflect the inside of the book. The window treatments shown in this book resemble one anotherand are old-fashioned and plain. An "Absolute-Beginners" type of book, but even so I wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know. ... Read more

A great book for quilters looking to display thier quilts in new ways. This book is very detailed so that you can create accurate and wonderful roman shades that help to insulate your windows.A great buy that I have refered to many, many times to make the roman shades that I now have in my house.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative
As an ultra-beginner, I learned a lot from this book and was inspired by the pictures.I have made three different style window treatments based on what this book taught me.The instructions are easy to follow and the photos are beautiful.I have bought other more "technical" books on window treatments but I think this one has more up-to-date styles, and simpler instructions and everything I have done has turned out fabulously.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
After purchasing this book, I was dissapointed to see very few pictures and ideas for everyday homes.I was expecting to find basic window covering ideas for drapes and valances. This book was more on the artsy side as opposed to the practicle decorating side. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eureka! No More Naked Windows in our House!
Donna Babylon has outdone herself with this one!4-0 out of 5 stars easy and follow and fun to do
I've had a difficult time finding instructions for window treatments I'd actually want to have in my home.Donna's selections are up-to-date, easy to accomplish and fun to do.I've been sewing for about 5 years, but wasable to create very professional looking treatments for about a 1/4 of thecost you'd expect to pay in stores.

4-0 out of 5 stars Donna does a great job explaining, step by step.
After seeing Donna as a guest on the Discovery Channel's Interior Motives with Christopher Lowell, I just had to get her book. And true to what Christopher and Donna claimed, this book is excellent in describing,step-by-step, exactly how to make curtains, swags, etc. I am so pleasedwith the results. I just started sewing again after a ten year hiatus andwas a little nervous, but my draperies look every bit as good as theprofessionals and I thank Donna for her efforts in putting her skills toprint, simplfying the task and enabling me to overcome the fears of customdecorating the windows in my home myself. Because of Donna, I have a $600look for only $200! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple confidence
I first checked out this book from the library, and after having to renew it a couple times, decided to purchase it.I made beautiful curtains for my daughter's bedroom.Even though I am a novice at sewing, the instructions were easy to follow, and I learned a lot of stitching techniques that got me real excited about moving on to my next project.I think Katrin Cargill is very knowledgeable and at the same time keeps the novice sewer in mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas which are reasonably easy to make!
This is the best book on curtains that I have seen - and I've looked around quite a bit.I was looking for several things to help me make curtains for my new home.Although I have some sewing experience I would not call myself an expert sewer. Many of the books currently available are really geared towards people with my level of experience or less, including this book.I wanted good pictures of the end product, so that I could really see what I was going to be making.Again, this is something most books on curtains have. However, the two things I wanted but which I only found in this book were:cool modern ideas (no ruffles or huge jabots, please!) and great instructions.5-0 out of 5 stars This book has lots of simple ideas.
The book has wonderful ideas that seem easy to follow beginning withmeasuring windows to how much fabric you will need. Each curtain has a pagethat opens up to show detailed directions. The color photos are great! There are even template designs to copy that help design a more creativecurtain. The book truly teaches you how to sew simple and easy to makecurtains. I am looking forward to getting started sewing curtains for everyroom in my house. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
I found the book very helpful.I was unsure of how I was going to decorate the windows in my new house, but now I have a few ideas.I definitely recommend this book to people who know style, but need a little help once in awhile.
4-0 out of 5 stars A good reference for contemporary projects
Useful in assessing what styles should be considered and what it takes to create them. Also, the introduction is instrumental in deciding what window treatment should be selected based on certain criteria such as light, view, energy efficiency, etc.As noted by other reviewers, instructions are too vague to use as the only source of reference unless you have prior expereience in making window treatments.I would purchase this book again.
