5-0 out of 5 stars Looked far and Wide
I looked thorugh every bookstore and website for the perfect wedding planner. If you want a "How-to" this may not be the planner for you, but if you want lots of room to doodle, take notes, good worksheets and pockets, this is perfect.I also like the 3-ring design, I have added a lot of pages so far, any three hole punch will adjust to fit this binder. All I could have asked for! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars yummy, accurate, special dishes that will become staples
We got this as a wedding gift and have been using it for the past few months. The recipes are easy to follow and the photographs are scrumptious.Several dishes -- the wild rice pilaf, orzo with pine nuts, and bread pudding -- have become staples in our new home.Sure, the stories are a bit saccherine, but that is exactly the kind of feeling new marriage evokes in most couples.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great for those who love to entertain!
I bought this book for myself, although I've been married going on 18 years. I'm typically a microwave-it-and-go girl, but the recipes looked like they could produce elegant meals with simple ingredients. And they do! We hosted a dinner party for 12 and served the pork tenderloin recipe with mango and mint salsa with blackberry syrup and got raves! This is my new favorite cookbook.I'm buying it for all new brides I know!

5-0 out of 5 stars All great meals in my kitchen come from 'the book'
This is an amazing cookbook. My husband and I recieved this as a wedding gift and have since bought it for other couples as wedding gifts. Eerything I have made from it has been amazing. I've since put so much trust in it that even if it doesn't sound that good i'll try it and it always amazes me. Our favorite is the sweet and sour brisket, and the mushroom risotto ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing ideas - DIY that doesn't look it
I checked this book out from the library but would have had to photocopy so many pages I decided to buy it. It has great, trendy ideas for the modern bride. Some may be hard, too time consuming, etc. but it's not the fru-fru stuff that Martha Stewart does, it actually looks good. If you want to have your own touches, this book is great. It contains huge full page color photos, which a lot of books lack. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent wedding source
This book was the number one resource for us while we were planning our wedding. We had many wedding magazines and books, but this was the by far the best. Eventually the others were pushed aside and we relied on this as our only source. There are many great tips for weddings of all types and sizes. The authors gave great advice and tips while offering humor (which is well-needed during the stressful times such as narrowing down the guest list). I highly recommend this book to couples looking to purchase one source to cover it all! Thanks Laura!

5-0 out of 5 stars words to the wise
It certainly covers a lot of ground, evenly and fairly concisely.I am an older male and I read a lot, but knew absolutely nothing about weddings. My partner suggested I buy the book, wise woman .If you are a man and feel trepidation around this largely female undertaking, read this book, and read it well.It is up to date and as a core virtue is not attached to selling you something you do not want or cannot afford. It only asks that you be satisfied and happy with your informed choice.Besides covering the rather effete items such as dress, and who goes where when, the nitty gritty onprenups, how to handle the caterers and who gets paid when, are also included. Read it again as the weddingdetails and decisions start to fall into place and you will be of some help to yourself as well as her.Occasionally you will be asked what you think.Occasionally you will have to weigh in to save your sanity. These things do need planning input by guys, and its a life learning experience -for most of us pleasantly, I hope!If you put yourself out of the loop, you really are a dummy. Together you actually can do it, and this is a good exercise.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fine Simplicity
The books offers simple, colorful pictures to indulge yourself in and set up in the most organized fashion.I was surprised at how much information it actually offered once I started reading the book. The text goes beyond the design efforts of the wedding and takes you into the scheduling of the wedding, the tasks that will be developed throughout the preparation of the wedding, wedding day preparations, tips on selecting the the venue & dealing with the people involved and just basic advice on every single detail.I found the book very helpful since it was seperated in different chapters according to the type of venues. The floral ideas were amazing since it offered simplicity using color tactics rather than quantity tactics.I only wished there were more weddings per each theme to compare.Such as three different 'vineyard' weddings, so it would offer more ideas within each particular theme.

5-0 out of 5 stars MVP for Wedding Ideas
The philosphy of this book is even more useful than the stunning pictures are. When I was planning my weding, it was so easy to be overwhelmed with the choices and ideas available. This book offers a 1-2-3 approach than can simplify some of the decision-making, at least as far as decor is concerned. While I too was occasionally frustrated by my location not fitting into any of the "themes" given, the point of the book is to inspire brides to work WITH their locations, rather than against them. By doing so, I saved a lot of time, effort, and money by not trying to make my location into a castle or a country club when it was a renovated school, but rather embracing the beauty of the architecture and gardens already there.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great book - great ideas!
This is a beautiful book that contains many wonderful ideas aimed at people who are "coordinating" their own wedding. It offers many different and simple solutions that not only cost less than traditional methods, but look beautiful as well.My only complaint is that the book is sectioned out by ceremony/reception location and if your location is not among those listed, it requires you to cross-reference to other sections to find ideas that would work. Also, the website that you are sent to for more information not listed in the back is not helpful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Detailed, valuable and highly recommended!
I am very pleased with the entire content of this organizer. There are plenty of worksheets, tips, tricks and insider secrets to turn your wedding into a memorable event. I am in a committed relationship from so long but didn't feel good enough in bed to propose her. After I turned from average into a great lover thanks to the bestseller scientfically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex, I eagerly picked this book. I read it in a few days and I want to congratulate Laura Morin for her hard and excellent work. It is an achievement to track down every single thing that should be considered and done before, during and after a wedding! According to me this book goes way beyond an "organizer". It is like a very knowledgeable friend who determinately points you the driver's seat right from the beginning and doesn't allow you to look back or coward. I thank the author for believing in the reader and empowering us to organize everything up to our highest expectations whatever they are. There are hundreds of thousands books on the market but this is one of the few gems that I feel confident to highly recommend.

Editorial Review

When planning for the big day, it's very easy to get caught up in beaded white dresses, boutonnieres, and how many platters of mini crab cakes to order, but the most important part of the wedding is the most-often overlooked--the ceremony itself. A wedding ceremony can vary hugely depending on the religious (or not) beliefs of the couple, their cultural backgrounds, and their personal preferences. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for religious weddings
If you are planning a religious ceremony for your wedding, this book is a must for your collection. It was helpful when writing the ceremony program. Although we chose not to write our own vows, it helped me with ideas for what I wanted to say at the rehearsal dinner. It includes ideas for all different religions and how each ceremony usually takes place. It gives ideas on how to include personal touches for your wedding. I found this book very helpful and am happy to pass it on to my newly engaged cousin.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Helpful for Us
This book is full of information, but none of it hit home for us.We came away with only one idea that we are actually going to use and found many of the sayings and toasts to be very cheesy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful
I'm not the kind of person who has planned her wedding since she was six years old.My family is not religious, we do not have our own traditions, and I really had no idea what I wanted to do for my ceremony.

5-0 out of 5 stars bridal gowns; how to make the wedding dress of your dreams
Very informative I will use the book alot

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Resource
I am in the Bridal Alterations business and also sew weddings on the side. I am just starting out and wanted to learn more about the insides of wedding gowns. I have used other books by these women (Fit for Real People) to teach sewing classes in local fabric stores and knew they'd put out a great product. Inside they tell you what fabrics to use for interlining, interfacing, step by step construction, patern fitting, and more. There's even a checklist for constructing a wedding gown and yardage and instructions for making petticoats. I REALLY recommend this book!

3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Guide, But Know How to Sew
I was toying with the idea of making my own dress and bought this book. The author is very knowledgeable and the text is well-written. However, if you are a novice you do not want to ACTUALLY attempt a dress without either a.)guidance, or b.)other books to walk you through. This is written for those who truly understand patterns and sewing. However, if you don't sew it is a great book to understand what things you should be looking for if you are having it made by a dressmaker, and the types of fabric/necklines/veils, etc. If you're expecting a step-by-step this is not the book for you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Spend the cash...
This is a great book.I've been shooting weddings for a year but this book still had plenty to tell me.If you like the photojournalist style, then this is one for the collection.Well worth it's cost.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for...
This is my first book on wedding photography, and I'm about a third of the way finished with reading it straight through, but like all photo books I can't resist the urge to randomly flip through from time to time. Don't expect to pick this up and learn the basics of photography! The section on equipment is minimal and only relates to the specific needs of wedding photography, and you won't find anything about apertures, shutters, lenses, etc. except where it plays a critical role in the creative direction of the photo. And it's here that the book shines, as Mr. Hurter is generous in his explanations of what makes every photo successful and describes from a high level the creative decisions each photographer made; technical knowledge on the part of the reader is assumed (for reference, I consider myself an "intermediate" and I have no problems following along). The subject stays true to its title, focusing on the creative, objective side of photojournalistic storytelling but being sensitive to the fact that the photographer must often interject himself into the events, either to carefully arrange a "spontaneous" moment as well as the unavoidable formal portaits that are expected from every wedding photographer.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Well Written Book
Wedding photojournalism is in vogue nowadays. Gone are the days of stiff posed wedding photos.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for invitations!
I run a small stationery and invite business (Quite the InviteTM) and have found this to be an invaluable tool for my business. This book covers all possibilities. Not everyone has use for this book, but anyone who does lots of entertaining or needs to make sure their invites follow protocol, this is a must.

4-0 out of 5 stars the definitive guide to elegant stationery
A lovely reference book on formal and semi-formal stationery, calling cards, and the proper wording for invitations.Filled with enthusiasm after reading the book, I went into my local stationers to price some of this fancy stuff and concluded that I was better off with a computer and printer. Not that I wouldn't love engraved letter sheets, monogrammed notes, and house stationery, but it would run into the hundreds of dollars. And that's just for the letter sheets and engraved envelopes! However, it's wonderful to press my nose against the window and dream about spending my children's inheritance on engraved correspondence cards!4-0 out of 5 stars A desk reference with attitude.
As someone who got really intrigued by parchment and fancy fonts when I got married, I'm rather surprised that the only version of this book still in print is the "Blue Book of Wedding Stationery." After all, one can have a hoity-toity paper fetish without being engaged.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Save the Money for your Wedding
I was very diappointed.I found very little money saving tips in this book.I wanted to find ways to have everything I want and still save money. This book mostly tells you to cut things out or ask guests to do stuff for you. I would not recommend it at all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth reading
I bought and read this book when my youngest daughter began planning her wedding. She had 3 years to plan so we had a lot of time to consider the suggestions in the book. She planned her wedding with the guidelines suggested in the book. I dont think it would have been as helpful if we had less time to plan. This book is not going to give you a detailed list of how to spend only 5000. It gives you ideas on how to cut cost in areas that are inconsequential. It still takes time to locate reasonable vendors, and you HAVE to either cut down on your guest list or offer a less formal reception. I would recommend this book to anyone that needs to keep costs down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great all around wedding guide
As the groom-to-be, I originally was not as interested in reading books about wedding planning as my wife. After hearing way too many times that I was not helping enough with the wedding planning and decision making, I started paging through this book.I quickly became engrossed in the book and soon found myself becoming more involved in helping with the planning. The book is well organized and reads as if the author was speaking to you directly in a casual conversation. It walks you through the wedding planning from choosing a date and location through writing the thank you notes. There were very good explanations of the various dress and tuxedo options, which previously all looked the same to me.I really appreciated the advice on developing the invitee list and dealing with family and in-laws- two of the most stressful parts of the planning process.I would highly recommend this book to any couple getting ready to tie the knot.

I just got engaged and am floored on how to plan a wedding."The Knot" was recommended to me as a website, and I found this book while searching for a wedding planner. It's been extremely helpful. And I especially like that it's not stuffy - the information is well laid out, easy to find, and they throw in interesting tidbits/facts and advice. It's made planning my wedding much more enjoyable.Even my fiance enjoys looking through it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good all-around resource
I found this book helpful as I began planning our wedding.I've never been much of a "wedding person," so prior to getting engaged I hadn't spent much time figuring out which flowers I wanted in my bouquet or what color my bridesmaid dresses should be.This book was exactly the crash-course I needed to get oriented and then get to work.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Brides and Grooms!
I discovered this jewel about halfway through my engagement, hidden, in all of its simplicity, amongst all of the big, beautiful wedding books at Barnes and Noble. I thought it sounded interesting, and my mom was buying, so I figured, "what the heck?" From the moment I opened it up, I couldn't put it down. I even convinced my fiance, who isn't much of a reader, that it would be good for him to read it. Read it he did, and he loved it just as much! Since then we let one other engaged couple borrow it...and when they never returned it and I had another friend about to get married, I sent it to her as an engagement gift.
1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I had hoped it would be...
I really was looking forward to something that explored the emotional whirlwind that I have been going through. This was certainly not it.It touches on what I wanted and then veers off into mythologically-based new age nonsense (and I have nothing against new age stuff in general).
5-0 out of 5 stars An invaluable wedding read
This book is a must read for all brides preparing for their wedding day. It's meaningful, valuable advice from an expert that is very accessible, funny and wise.It quickly became my constant planning and preparation companion and I bought for a friend of mine who is also getting married and she LOVES it too. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Wedding Cake
As an experienced cake decorator looking for new ideas, I was not impressed with this book. The examples were a bit staid. I would not even recommend it for new bakers since there are no explicit guidelines for making the decorations, constructing the cakes, etc. I would recommend The Well Decorated Cake by Toba Garrett. The instructions are simple and easy to follow even for the novice. And the recipes are wonderful. I have tested almost every one and had great results the first time.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not impressed
Sadly, I was extremely underwhelmed by this book.It is just a collection of some above-average cake decorating. There are no instructions on how to make the sugar paste flowers or decorations.A better book would be Margaret Braun's Cakewalk. This book, however, is great for beginners or clueless brides. For us pastry folks, I recommend you pass on it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not like the magazine at all
I wish I hadn't bought this book.I love the magazine so I was hoping that the book would be like a whole bunch of the magazines condensed into one huge helpful book.Unfortunately, that is not the case.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Best of MS Living Weddings
The pictures are wonderful but the specifics are very limited. I think this book is a wonderful place to start to get ideas for colors, style, etc. but you will need more specific information to actually plan a wedding.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Darn Good!!!
I bought this wedding planner for my nanny. I used the free one from State Farm, which they give to their insured, and that was okay. I splurged for her because she was completely unorganized. Within a few days she started bringing it to the house with all her paper work. I could hear her making her calls and checking off her lists. I asked her and she said it was very good. She had a planner form Barns and Noble and it was completely useless. The only complaint she had was the same as everyone else...having to photocopy the guest list. I can see if you are having 300 people, but there is only one page. I think for the money you should get enough for your average sized wedding. Other than that, it's great. It also has lots of ideas and pictures of some of Martha's great work and ideas. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cute and fun scrapbook
Amazingly it is difficult to find a premade scrapbook for the wedding process. You'll find resources galore or how to put together a wedding, but nothing to put all your wonderful memories in.Until this book.I highly recommend the book for its originality and sense of detail of what is important for the day. She has spaces for important pictures as well as thoughts to document that captures the day's events. And you'll continue to use the scrapbook each year as you update your anniversary gifts.A true treasure you can pass down to your children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love it, Love it, Love it!!
I first spotted this in the O Magazine(Oprah)and ordered it and it's great! I can add things into it like a traditional scrapbook and not worry about pockets and overlays, so I can have little things open and stick out without getting crushed.

Editorial Review

Although the wedding cake is usually one of the last details engaged couples settle on before the big day, it's just as important for setting the tone and style of the celebration as the flowers or the invitations. An elegant, towering Croquembouche studded with golden almonds and wrapped in clouds of spun sugar sends a different message than a rich-looking Gianduja Truffle Cake decorated with fresh fruit and dusted with gold powder or a White Chocolate Satin Apricot Cake adorned with flowers (click to see photos). Chef Dede Wilson believes that wedding cakes should be aesthetically pleasing, but above all should "reflect the tastes, beliefs, and desires of the bridal couple." With the aim of creating cakes that taste as good as they look, Wilson lends her expertise and creative spirit to the marvelous constructions in Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars The Wedding Cake Book by Dede Wilson
I thought this book with very average... It just seemed to be the some kind of work though out the book.

2-0 out of 5 stars It was NOT what I had expected at all!
I had expected to see more ideas for wedding cakes and these were NOT something people in my circle would make or eat! When writing a book like this, ALL types of readers should be considered.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best recipes with mixing amounts included for differing pan sizes!
I just made a wedding cake for my cousin's wedding and this book was clearly the best as far as giving practical advice, explaining how to fix problems (for example, what to do if you are making Italian meringue frosting and the egg whites are whipped before the sugar syrup is up to temperature or vise versa so each recipe comes out perfectly!), and including such a wonderful array of gourmet recipes including how to make marzipan (which is so easy!using just corn syrup and almond paste which can be shaped like clay for edible decorations and then I hand tinted/painted mine using paste icing color) and chocolate plastic (simply white chocolate and corn syrup which can be molded or cut out with cookie cutters). The book has lovely photographs with the recipes and directions immediately following each photo, or, if you're like me, you can pick and choose what ideas you like and augment to your heart's content!I had fun making a pound cake with raspberry mousse filling, Italian meringue buttercream frosting (so smooth and not as sweet as the usual confectioners sugar frostings and it tastes like whipped cream), and decorations out of marzipan and chocolate plastic in the shapes of grapes, acorns, leaves, and roses for the woodland theme wedding. The advantage of marzipan is that it can make very large decorations with little fear that it will collapse.I adore this book and have Dede Wilson's other book as well and hope she'll put out more! ...
