1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of money unless you don't use computers.
I wish I had read other reviews before purchasing.I purchased this mainly for the software as well. After installing the software, my computer crashed. Not relating the two incidents, I tried it on my husband's computer. His also crashed.(We are both running Windows 2000.) We discovered that the forms we needed in the book were all easily found on the web for free.So if you are willing to take a little time to surf the web, it's a waste of money (and time trying to fix your computer). The book's publishing company no longer has it available on their website and has a different name change kit instead...I think that says something about the product as well.

1-0 out of 5 stars Useful Book, Incompatible Software
I purchased this book primarily for the software, which I thought would help save time completing the name change forms.I found the book to have useful information; however, the software was incompatible with the Windows 98 operating system on my computer. The publisher kindly provided another copy of the software upon request, unfortunately, that copy was also incompatible. As a result, my husband had to format my computer's hard drive and reinstall Windows 98 several times. If you do not have an interest in using the software, this book might be the one for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good and Bad
This book had its ups and downs. The forms in the book were helpful. Considering my wife was the person that I had bought it for, I don't really have first hand experience with the book. The impression I gathered from her was that it was easy to have all the forms in one place and it took her a couple hours to get them all down and in the mail. The software wasn't really all that good because it doesn't have anything that is useful. It has forms you can print off if you need more but I don't know why you would and the labels were kind of a pain to get to fit and then when they printed they smeared. So, if you are looking for all the forms in one spot this is a good book, but don't buy it for the software or labels. You can make your own on Microsoft Word. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Wedding Bliss-We love this book!
My spouse and I had great fun and success using this book to plan our wedding. Many chapters talk about the symbolism of different elements that can be added to the ceremony to make it richer and more meaningful. Looking back, the day was so special and magical because of the rich symbolism that we added with the help of this book. There is also a wonderful chapter on writing your own vows. And the book offered plenty of practical advise as well. It was full of ideas, charts and budgets. We love this book!

2-0 out of 5 stars Terrible History, Decent planning help
Please please please don't belive hardly ANYTHING this author tells you about the "ancient history of celtic handfasting". All of this God/Goddess duality is GREAT for Wiccans, but please please don't believe that that is how the "ancient Celts" actually practiced and worshiped. We have hardly ANY evidence for the prehistoric Celts, and what we have is skewed, slanted, and possibly even misinterpreted (archaeological evidence is VERY difficult to interpret). The author does a decent job of giving you things to think about for planning your wedding (such as date, place, altar objects, etc) but I wouldn't say that she does a super job of anything, really.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific

1-0 out of 5 stars Tacky and Sloppy
Just bought this book because of the previous reviews. What a mistake.I've been doing highend weddings for 15 years and this stuff is sloppy and tacky.Lot's of photos but I think I counted 5 that I wouldn't be ashamed of.

5-0 out of 5 stars More bridal bouquet photos than any other book...
As a florist specializing in wedding design, I own nearly 40 floral and floral design books that I use as reference (for myself and my clients) for my business, and in my opinion, this book is the best bridal bouquet photo book in existance today. It's not a step-by-step, "how to" book so readers won't see any instructions for how to re-create the designs in the book. However, what they will see is a large book that showcases a HUGE volume of photos of diversely-styled bouquets designed by a many different floral designers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Now THIS is the book I've been waiting for.
A really great book to get ideas for your bridal bouquet. I looked for something like this for my own wedding, but the only books available showed a couple dozen different bouquets or were how-to's (NOT for me!). This book shows hundreds and hundreds of different bouquets. You will absolutely find the bouquet style you want in this book. Dividing it by color was the best choice since that is how brides choose flowers - at least I did. I bought it to help my sister choose her bouquet and that of her attendants, but now the hard part is choosing from so many really beautiful pictures. Really fun to see this many bouquets in one book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful on many levels
This is a great book for someone who's never been a bridesmaid before (like me). There were a lot of practical hints about what kinds of events you'll need to set up and attend and how much you may end up spending and so on.I do have the occasional quarrel -- Ms. Rung says being pregnant is not an acceptable excuse for bowing out of a wedding party, which I completely disagree with, and I also thought her estimates on what a bridesmaids' dress and accoutrements might cost were frequently low -- but overall, this book is an easy read and often funny too. There is also a lot of repetition, which is probably geared towards those who are only going to read a few chapters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wedding details.
I love this book, will use often to make sure that every wedding I plan have those touches to make this special for each bride.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Pictures - but that's about it
I flipped through this book in about 10 minutes and did not get many usable ideas from it. Some of the projects seemed like they would take forever to do for even a medium sized wedding. Some seemed pretty expensive. If you like Martha Stewert and Design magazines, you might like looking through this - but otherwise just flip through it at the bookstore. Its not worth the money.

1-0 out of 5 stars A huge disappointment
I think many of the ideas are only practical and affordable if you have a tiny guest list. The pictures show weddings that are in a house, not a large ball room. There was a few ideas on how to present seating arrangements that I found useful, but most of these I had seen for free on the internet. Some of the ideas include attaching bunches of flowers to chair backs for the reception, or putting a flower in each guests napkin. Although these are great ideas, anyone who is budget minded will have trouble adapting most of the ideas to a large scale wedding.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It was VERY helpful
My sister-in-law used this book and gave it to me when I got engaged. It was a complete lifesaver for me.
3-0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but outdated
This book was originally published in 1968 and reprinted in 1985, so the advice is somewhat outdated. For example, it implies that sending thank you notes immediately after the wedding is absolutely necessary, otherwise you should apologize for not doing so as part of your note and include a reason. No bride I know these days spends her honeymoon writing thank you cards. Just as a matter of logistics, it's not possible, as the cards haven't been received from the photographer yet. That alone takes a month or so. So, right off the bat, there are a few issues that I have with this book, although it is helpful. There are general suggestions as far as wording goes, but again, most young brides I know would never use that phraseology as it is from the 60's and the wording would sound strange coming from us, although I understand the intention is for us to use it as a guide and to paraphrase. The only extremely helpful tip that I got from this book was not to write more than 5 notes per day (although it can be very tempting when you get on a roll!) as you will find yourself starting to write sloppy and making mistakes. People hang on to these cards as keepsakes and you want to make it worth their wait. Unfortunately, I could absolutely not locate any other more appropriate book to help me out. So, I would say if you are absolutely desperate for help, this book will do.

1-0 out of 5 stars Outdated & Unhelpful
I bought this book to use when completing my shower thank you notes and it has not been very helpful. The sentiments are not heartfelt, but fake. The gift examples they give are not useful (telephone cart, sterling silver tea setting, chandelier) and it lacks helpful gifts like everyday place settings and everyday towels. The book desperately needs to be updated. Not for the Bride of the new millennium. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars the basics
i think this is a good starting point for a planning a hindu wedding when you really have no idea what a hindu wedding entails. but i found the overall tone a little simplistic and not really written with modern society in mind. nevertheless, there are some good definitions and descriptions - just make sure you research the different rituals more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good source, hoping there is something more in depth out there
The book covers many traditions - which is both good and a downfall. If you are a westerner you will find that an Indian wedding you go to doesn't necessarily do the same practices or all the practices listed in the book.It still is a good source for someone going in blindly, and probably the best available.Hopefully a more in depth book will come out that explains each of the steps with more meaning then just a superficial application to American culture.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Book For Every Hindu Bride To Be!
Vivah: Design a Perfect Hindu Wedding, written by Meenal Atul Pandya, is a primer for anyone involved in a Hindu wedding. It looks to bridge the gap between traditional ceremonies thousands of years old with modern traditions.Vivah is a step by step walk through of all the elements of a Hindu wedding from philosophy to finding local resources. The author uses vivid photos so readers can visualize their perfect Hindu ceremony.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic surprise!
A friend of a friend loaned me this book and I thought it would be yet another useless book of lists and non-information. Instead, this is a great book that helps you assert what you want for your wedding without becoming a "but it's my day" monster. this was a huge help in preparing for finding out all of our families opinions and then balancing them out with what we really wanted. i plan to buy this for every friend i know before they get married - that and a check for a few good therapy sessions. in fact, that's what this book is - good therapy.

5-0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read and generally useful resource.
I love this book. One Amazon review trashed it for focusing on all the negative aspects of getting married but I can't see how the reviewer would have come to that conclusion unless she stopped reading after the first chapter. The book shares stories of other weddings--good, bad, and okay but we would have done something different--that serve as inspirations and cautionary tales. Danielle Claro's writing style is very down-to-earth and readable without being insultingly simplistic.
4-0 out of 5 stars Finally someone understands...
Anyone who claims to dislike this book is just jealous because they didn't find it until after their future mother in law had talked them into silk flowers and a dress with poofy sleeves the size of their head.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Convenient and thorough

5-0 out of 5 stars Great inforamtion
I found that this book gave you lots of options when looking for cost cutting ideas.I recommend it for anyone looking at getting married and saving a few dollars.

5-0 out of 5 stars very helpful
I just finished reading this book.Although I have only begun planning my wedding, I had already started to feel very overwhelmed at trying to pull off the wedding I wanted for as many people as I wanted, for a mere $10000.This book really helped calm the fears, and inspired me to believe I can do this. Hopefully the tips and worksheets will help, and the checklists of questions to ask vendors seem like they will be wonderful to have.I recommend this book to anyone who (like me) thinks it is insane to spend an outrageous amount of money on just one day, but still wants to have a wedding that doesn't look cheap and poorly done.
5-0 out of 5 stars Smart money-saving ideas here!
Finally, a book on getting more out of your wedding budget without resorting to obviously cheesy things that show you cut corners. Our copy has more pages dog-eared and highlighted than not, and we're even passing ideas along to our friends. The reception section on what to order for food choices was terrific, and I especially loved the part about where to look for a wedding gown that's not one of those cut-rate wedding factories and still find a big bargain on a designer dress. If you want to get twice or three times the wedding for what you have to spend, get this book and get ready to highlight all the great ideas. We're going to have a much better wedding now since we read this. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A nice overview of how to plan your wedding
